Optimization process of pre-swirl nozzle geometry was conducted to improve the discharge coefficient of pre-swirl system by using CFD. The optimization of pre-swirl nozzle shape covered the converging angle and the location of the converging nozzle. Optimization process included Optimal Latin Hyper-cube Design method to get the experimental points and the Kriging method to create the response surface which gives candidate points. The process was finished when the difference between the predicted value and CFD value of candidate point was less than 0.1 %. This paper compared the Reference model, Initial model which is the first model of optimization and Optimized model to study flow characteristics. Finally, the discharge coefficient of Optimized model is improved about 17 % to the Reference model.

In Oriental medicine, the status of a tongue is the important indicator to diagnose one's health like physiological and clinicopathological changes of inner parts of the body. The method of tongue diagnosis is not only convenient but also non-invasive and widely used in Oriental medicine. However, tongue diagnosis is affected by examination circumstances a lot like a light source, patient's posture and doctor's condition. To develop an automatic tongue diagnosis system for an objective and standardized diagnosis, segmenting a tongue is inevitable but difficult since the colors of a tongue, lips and skin in a mouth are similar. The proposed method includes preprocessing, graph-based over-segmentation, detecting positions with a local minimum over shading, detecting edge with color difference and estimating edge geometry from the probable structure of a tongue, where preprocessing performs down-sampling to reduce computation time, histogram equalization and edge enhancement. A tongue was segmented from a face image with a tongue from a digital tongue diagnosis system by the proposed method. According to three oriental medical doctors' evaluation, it produced the segmented region to include effective information and exclude a non-tongue region. It can be used to make an objective and standardized diagnosis.

In this paper, we have proposed a novel method which can analysis the direction finding ambiguity analysis for array geometry in 3 channel and 4 channel multiple baseline direction finding system. Generally, the direction finding ambiguity in the 3 element and 4 element phase interferometer direction finding system is calculated by the simulation for the array spacing or by the probability with the selected antenna array spacing. There are some restrictions to obtain the ambiguity of direction finding system in these methods. The former performs a simulation with every antenna array spacing and the latter calculates the ambiguity with the selected antenna array spacing. To overcome those restrictions, This paper proposed the novel method to calculate the ambiguity using the imaginary antenna array spacing and the phase difference prior to the modular operation in direction finder. Using the proposed method, we obtain the ambiguity probability for each of array geometry composed of multiple baseline. After performing the simulation with the selected antenna array spacing to verify the proposed method, we compared the calculated result data with the simulation data.
We fabricated an anode-type ion source driven by a charge repulsion mechanism and investigated its beam shape controlled by a Whenelt mask integrated at the front face of the source. The ion beam shape was observed to vary by changing the geometry of the Whenelt mask. As the angle of inclination of the Whenelt mask was varied from $40^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$, the etched area at a thin film was reduced from 20 mm to 7.5 mm at the working distance of 286 mm, and the light transmittance through the etched surface was increased from 78% to 80%, respectively. In addition, for the step height difference, ${\Delta}$ between the inner mask and the outer mask of ${\Delta}=0$, -1 mm, and +1 mm, we observed the ion beam shape was formed to be collimated, diverged, and focused, respectively. The focal length of the focused beam was 269 mm. We approved experimentally a simple way of controlling the electric field of the ion beam by changing the geometry of the Whenelt mask such that the initial direction of the ion beam in the plasma region was manipulated effectively.

A 3-D vision system is developed to evaluate blanks' line up and monitor gap and thickness difference between blanks in tailored blank welding system. A structured lighting method is used for 3-D vision recognition. Images of sheared portion in blanks are irregular according to roughness of blank surface, shape of sheared geometry and blurring. It is difficult to get accurate and reliable informations in the case of using binary image processing or contour detection techniques in real time for such images. We propoe a new energy integration method robust to blurring and changes of illumination. The method is computationally simple, and uses feature restoration concept, different to another digital image restoration methods which aim image itself restoration and may be used in conventional applications using structured line lighting technique. Experimental results show this system measuring repeatability is .+-. pixel for gap and thickness difference in static and dynamic tests. The data are expected to be useful for preview gap control.
In this study, landscape changes were examined by periods through the analysis of visual quantity on the landscape components of national road including the mountains, the sky, road pavements, street trees, paddy fields and dry fields, billboard, telegraph pole, building, structure, slope, guard fence, soundproof wall, and median strip etc. For this, subject national road in suburb arreas was selected to grasp its landscape characteristics, and divisional criteria of landscape type of the national road were suggested to look into the trend of landscape changes by periods. Findings of this study are as follows:1.Divisional criteria of landscape type of the national road include location and geometry, structure, land use, perspective, and surrounding buildings of the national road. 2.The highest visual quantity was found in road pavements by periods among landscape components of the national road. It was found that this result has a thread of connection with previous study emphasizing the importance of road geometry as one of landscape components, and road geometry shall be regarded as a visually significant component in analyzing and evaluating landscape of the national road. 3.Most distinguished factors of landscape changes of the national road by periods were median strip(F=33.296) and street tree(F=32.881), and then the sky(F=24.735) and mountain(F=23.477) showed similar level of statistically significant difference. However, statistically significance difference was not found in buildings and structures. 4.It was shown that natural elements decreased gradually but structural landscape made of artificial elements became the main in construction of the national road. This result implies that although the scenic and ecological soundness is recognized in construction of the national road, it is not out of the limitation of functionalities that is, access and mobility.
We detected the coseismic ionospheric disturbance generated by the earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and greater in Korean Peninsula. We considered the seismic events such as Gyeongju earthquake in September 2016 with magnitude 5.8, the Pohang earthquake in November 2017 with magnitude 5.4, and the underground nuclear explosion from North Korea in September 2017 with magnitude 5.7. Although all GPS stations were not detected, the ionospheric disturbance induced by these earthquakes occurred approximately 10-30 minutes and 40-60 minutes after the events. We inferred that the time difference within each variation is due to the different focal depth and the geometry of epicenter, satellite, and GPS station. In the case of the Gyeongju earthquake, the earthquake had relatively deeper depth than the other earthquakes. However, the seismic magnitude was bigger and it occurred at nighttime when the ionospheric activity was stable. So we could observe such anomalous variations. It is considered that the ionospheric disturbance caused by the difference in velocity of the upward propagating waves generated by earthquake appears more than once. Our results indicate that the detection of ionospheric disturbances varies depending on the geometry of the GPS station, satellite, and epicenter or the detection method and that the apparent growth of amplitude in the time series varies depending on the focal depth or the site-satellite-epicenter geometry.
PURPOSE. Digital technology has enabled improvements in the fitting accuracy of denture bases via milling techniques. The aim of this study was to evaluate the trueness and precision of digital and analog techniques for manufacturing complete dentures (CDs). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Sixty identical CDs were manufactured using different production protocols. Digital and analog technologies were compared using the reference geometric approach, and the Δ-error values of eight areas of interest (AOI) were calculated. For each AOI, a precise number of measurement points was selected according to sensitivity analyses to compare the Δ-error of trueness and precision between the original model and manufactured prosthesis. Three types of statistical analysis were performed: to calculate the intergroup cumulative difference among the three protocols, the intergroup among the AOIs, and the intragroup difference among AOIs. RESULTS. There was a statistically significant difference between the dentures made using the oversize process and injection molding process (P < .001), but no significant difference between the other two manufacturing methods (P = .1227). There was also a statistically significant difference between the dentures made using the monolithic process and the other two processes for all AOIs (P = .0061), but there was no significant difference between the other two processes (P = 1). Within each group, significant differences among the AOIs were observed. CONCLUSION. The monolithic process yielded better results, in terms of accuracy (trueness and precision), than the other groups, although all three processes led to dentures with Δ-error values well within the clinical tolerance limit.

In this study, decompositive optimization method of two levels was selected to optimize effectively the geometry of the truss which takes the multi-loading condition, and the allowable stress, bucking stress, displacement and natural frequency constraints into consideration. The algorithm of this study is made up of sectional optimization using the feasible direction method in level 1, and geometrical optimization employing Powell's one-direction search method which menimizes only objictive function in level 2. The results of this study acquired by beenning applied to structural model of the truss are as follows : 1. It is verified that the algorithm of this study effectively converges, independent of the initial geometry of the truss and the applied various constraints. 2. The optimum goemetry of the truss varies more considerably according to the constraints selected. 3. Under the condition of the same design, the weight of the truss can be decreased more considerably by means of optimizing even the geometry of truss than by means of optimizing the section of truss while fixing geometrical configuration of it, even though there might be a little difference according to the initial geometry of the truss and the design condition.

A surface panel method treating a boundary-value problem of the Dirichlet type is presented to design a three dimensional body with free surface corresponding to a prescribed pressure distribution. An integral equation is derived from Green's theorem, giving a relation between total potential of known strength and the unknown local flux. Upon discretization, a system of linear simultaneous equations is formed including free surface boundary condition and is solved for an assumed geometry. The pseudo local flux, present due to the incorrect positioning of the assumed geometry, plays a role f the geometry corrector, with which the new geometry is computed for the next iteration. Sample designs for submerged spheroids and Wigley hull and carried out to demonstrate the stable convergence, the effectiveness and the robustness of the method. For the calculation of the wave resistance, normal dipoles and Rankine sources are distributed on the body surface and Rankine sources on the free surface. The free surface boundary condition is linearized with respect to the oncoming flow. Four-points upwind finite difference scheme is used to compute the free surface boundary condition. A hyperboloidal panel is adopted to represent the hull surface, which can compensate the defects of the low-order panel method. The design of a 5500TEU container carrier is performed with respect to reduction of the wave resistance. To reduce the wave resistance, calculated pressure on the hull surface is modified to have the lower fluctuation, and is applied as a Dirichlet type dynamic boundary condition on the hull surface. The designed hull form is verified to have the lower wave resistance than the initial one not only by computation but by experiment.
