Optimization of feed system of base mold for washing machine using CAE (사출성형 CAE를 이용한 세탁기용 Base 성형용 금형의 유동 시스템 최적화)

  • The position of the gate is one of the important factors for optimal injection molding. This is because inappropriate gate positions cannot fill the cavity uniformly, which can lead to defects such as contraction. In this study, CAE was performed on hot runner injection molding of the washing machine base and plasticity was compared by changing gate position from existing gate position. A total of two alternatives have been applied to compare the plasticity of the washing machine base according to its optimal gate position. The gate position of the improved molds and the gate position of the current mold is analyzed by injection molding analysis. The results of the fill time, the pressure at V/P switchover, clamping force, and deflection were compared. In washing machine base injection molding, the deflection was reduced by about 3.76% in the improved mold 2. In improved mold 1, the fill time during injection molding was reduced by 3.32% to enable uniform charging, and the clamping force was reduced by 31.24%. We have confirmed that the position of the gate can change the charging pressure and the clamping force and affect the quality and cost savings of the molded product.

Determination of Gate Position Considering Robustness in Injection Mold Design (사출금형 설계에서 강건성을 고려한 게이트 위치의 결정)

  • In this paper, we propose a design procedure for determining the gate position robust to changes and inherent fluctuations in the process conditions during injection molding. To evaluate the robustness of the gate position, the signal-to-noise ratio is used, and noise conditions are implemented using orthogonal arrays, where the process variables are considered as noise factors and possible process fluctuations are set as the levels of the noise factors. To show the usefulness of the proposed robust design procedure, we apply it to a computer CPU baseplate. As a result, it is shown that a robust gate position can be determined that reduces the average warpage deflection by 2.4% and 1.7%, and the variance by 3.4% and 5.1%, compared to the two initial gate positions.

  • In general a main technology of control a sluice gate is accurate synchronous position control for the two cylinders when they are moving with the sluice gate together over 10[m]. Because the nonlinear friction and the unconstant supply flow. Cylinders' displacement will be different. In this case the sluice gate may be deformed and abraded, and even the sluice gate may unable to work. In order to design the controller for this system, we designed two kinds of Fuzzy PI controllers. Fuzzy PI position controller and Fuzzy PI synchronous controller have been designed. We show some simulation results for its availability.

  • In this paper, in order to improve the formability and quality of the injection molded parts in the molds for molding the motorcycle rear cowl injection molded parts with different volumes at the same time, the flow of the molded parts is changed through the injection molding CAE analysis by changing the gate position, runner size and position. It is to find the optimum gate position, the diameter of the runner and the position where the balance is equal. The molded article formed by the optimization resulted in the uniformity of the molten resin at the same time at the corner of the product, thereby maintaining the flow balance favorable for mass production at lower injection pressure.

  • On the basis of a structural analysis of radial gate (i.e. Tainter gate), the current paper focuses on weight minimization according to the location of the arms on a radial gate. In spite of its economical significance, there are hardly any previous studies on the optimum design of radial gate. Accordingly, the present study identifies the optimum position of the support point for a radial gate that guarantees the minimum weight satisfying the strength constraint conditions. This study also identifies the optimum position for 2 or 3 radial arms with a convex cylindrical skin plate relative to a given radius of the skin plate curvature, pivot point, water depth, ice pressure, etc. These optimum designs are then compared with previously constructed radial gates. Local genetic and hybrid-type genetic algorithms are used as the optimum tools to reduce the computing time and enhance the accuracy. The results indicate that the weights of the optimized radial gates are appreciably lower than those of previously constructed gates.

  • This study shows an optimization procedure for an automatic determination on the gate position to ensure the fill-uniformity within a part cavity by using the injection molding simulation. For an optimization, the maximum pressure-difference within a part cavity induced at the stage of filling is used to evaluate degree of fill-uniformity. In addition, a direct search scheme based on the reduction of design space is developed and applied in the optimization problem. This corresponding proposed methodology was applied in the optimization on the gate location for a CD-tray molding, as a result, showed the improvement of the fill-uniformity within the cavity.

Metal Insulator Gate Geometric HEMT: Novel Attributes and Design Consideration for High Speed Analog Applications

  • Improvement in breakdown voltage ($BV_{ds}$) and speed of the device are the key issues among the researchers for enhancing the performance of HEMT. Increased speed of the device aspires for shortened gate length ($L_g$), but due to lithographic limitation, shortening $L_g$ below sub-micrometer requires the inclusion of various metal-insulator geometries like T-gate onto the conventional architecture. It has been observed that the speed of the device can be enhanced by minimizing the effect of upper gate electrode on device characteristics, whereas increase in the $BV_{ds}$ of the device can be achieved by considering the finite effect of the upper gate electrode. Further, improvement in $BV_{ds}$ can be obtained by applying field plates, especially at the drain side. The important parameters affecting $BV_{ds}$ and cut-off frequency ($f_T$) of the device are the length, thickness, position and shape of metal-insulator geometry. In this context, intensive simulation work with analytical analysis has been carried out to study the effect of variation in length, thickness and position of the insulator under the gate for various metal-insulator gate geometries like T-gate, $\Gamma$-gate, Step-gate etc., to anticipate superior device performance in conventional HEMT structure.

  • The golden section search method is widely used to optimize a single design variable in many fields due to its superior advantages of search. In this paper, a new direct search method is proposed by modifying the search structure of the golden section search method; thus, it can be adapted in the optimization of a single design variable for the injection molding process. This proposed method is applied to determine an optimal gate position for the injection molding of a bezel of an automated teller machine for minimizing the injection pressure. Thus, an optimal gate position where the injection pressure is decreased by 4.5 MPa to that of the initial position was obtained with a small number of simulations. It is anticipated that the current proposed search method can be utilized as a practical tool for optimizing single variables for injection molding design.
