  • CFD(computational fluid dynamics) model is developed to simulate direct injection of ammonia gas phase from ammonia transporting materials into the SCR catalyst in the exhaust pipe of the engine with solid SCR. Configurations of one-hole and four-hole nozzle, circumferential type, porous tube type, and the effect of mixer configurations which commonly used in liquid injection of AdBlue are considered for complex geometries. Mal-distribution index related to concentration of ammonia gas, flow uniformity index related to velocity distribution, and pressure drop related to flow resistance are compared for different configurations of complex geometries at the front section of SCR catalyst. These results are used to design the injection system of ammonia gas phase for solid SCR of target vehicle.

  • In general, odorant was added to fuel gases, such as LPG, LNG and city gas, to prevent gas poisoning, ignition, explosion, or other accident caused by fuel gases, and to enable immediate and easy detection of fuel-gas leakage by emitting an offensive smell. This study describes a study on the exhaust emissions characteristics and fuel economy of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicle using LPG fuel with new sulfur free odorant. New sulfur free odorant was added to LPG to reduce sulfur content of the LPG. Its performance and exhaust emission were compared to those of LPG with sulfur containing odorant (EM, ethyl mercaptan). Engine performance using LPG with sulfur free odorant was similar to that with sulfur-containing odorant. Exhaust emissions from the LPG vehicle with LPG including sulfur free odorant were also similar to those with LPG including sulfur containing odorant in the FTP 75 and NEDC mode. There experimental results suggest that the sulfur free odorant may substitute for the sulfur containing odorant in LPG fuel.

  • The electron swarm parameters and Energy distribution function have been calculated for electrons motion through CH$_4$ pure gas under the action of uniform electric field for 0.1$\leq$E/N(Td)$\leq$300, at the 300( $^{\circ}$K), using MCS method and Boltzmann transport equation. And then the resulting values of electron drift velocity were compared to experimental data and adjustment made in assumed cross sections until good agreement was obtained. The electron drift velocity is very useful in the fields of study relating to the conductive and dielectric phenomena of gas medium. The electron energy distribution in gas discharge are generally nonmaxwellian , and must be calculated by a numerical solution of the Boltzmann equation which takes in the elastic and inelastic collisions. To analyze the physical phenomena and properties (or electron swarm motion in a gas under the influence of an electric field, the energy distribution function of electrons and the theoretical deriveration of the electron drift velocity are calculated by the Backward Prolongation with respect to the Boltzmann transport equation as a parameter of E/N(Td).

  • Drilling expedition #1 in 2007 and drilling expedition #2 in 2010 were performed for gas hydrate resources evaluation and optimal site selection of pilot test in Ulleung basin, East Sea, Korea. This study presents to build the 3D spatial distribution models using the estimated sedimentary facies, porosity, and gas hydrate saturation derived by well logs and core analysis data from UBGH1-4, UBGH1-9, UBGH1-10, UBGH1-14, UBGH2-2-1, UBGH2-2-2, UBGH2-6, UBGH2-9, UBGH2-10 and UBGH2-11. The objective of 3D spatial distribution modeling is to build a geological representation of the gas hydrate-bearing sediment that honors the heterogeneity in 3D grid scale. The facies modeling is populating sedimentary facies into a geological grid using sequential indicator simulation. The porosity and gas hydrate saturation modeling used sequential Gaussian simulation to populate properties stochastically into grid cells.

  • A non-intrusive measurement, Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence was employed to visualize and measure the fuel distribution of the non-reacting field at the burner exit of gas turbine combustor. Measurement techniques, image processing method and quantification procedure were presented. Also, concentration measurement with gas analyzer was carried out to verify the propriety of PLIF result. The PLIF result coincides well with gas analyzer measurement result. PLIF test result for several other conditions are mentioned as well.

  • In adsorption/catalytic process, numerical analysis has been performed to identify the flow characteristics of flue gas in the cyclone and to estimate the residence time of activated carbon using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) technique. To consider flue gas and activated carbon particles simultaneously, Euler-Lagrangian model was employed so that residence time could be obtained from the numerical analysis directly. The numerical analysis has been performed with different three particle sizes and compared each flow characteristics with particle’ size. Fundamental flow patterns of flue gas and activated carbon particles, pressure distribution, residence time of flue gas, and activated carbon particles and distribution of activated carbon have been obtained from the numerical analysis.

  • In this study, the domestic and abroad policies and regulations on the gas cooling systems have been analyzed. First, the current policies were investigated in Korea and other countries to stimulate the distribution of the gas cooling systems. The advantage and disadvantage for each policy were evaluated. Finally, several policies were proposed for the effective distribution of the gas cooling systems.

  • Feasibility study of gas-lubricated bearing in micro gas turbine was performed. Based on Reynolds equation, finite difference method with coupled boundary was developed to analyze bearing characteristics, such as load capacity, mass flow rates and stiffness. By the bearing force and mass flow rates analysis with the variation of supply pressure, bearing clearance and capillary radius, acceptable range of design parameters were suggested in terms of load capacity and stiffness of bearings. Additionally, coupled boundary effect on pressure distribution was investigated and it is stated that coupling could reduce an excitation force due to narrow pressure distribution.

  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structural material for the railroad cars and the commercial vehicles. These kinds structures used stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by using the gas welding. For fatigue design of gas welded joints such as fillet and plug type joint, it is necessary to obtain design information on stress distribution at the weldment as well as fatigue strength of gas welded joints. And also, the influence of the geometrical parameters of gas welded joints on stress distribution and fatigue strength must be evaluated. the ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were obtained by fatigue tests. Using these results, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were rearranged in the ${\Delta}{\sigma}-N_f$ relation with the maximum stress at the edge of fillet welded joint.
