This study was conducted for engineering optimization for the gasification process which is the key factor for success of Taean IGCC gasification plant which has been driven forward under the government support in order to expand to supply new and renewable energy and diminish the burden of the responsibility for the reduction of the green house gas emission. The gasification process consists of coal milling and drying, pressurization and feeding, gasification, quenching and HP syngas cooling, slag removal system, dry flyash removal system, wet scrubbing system, and primary water treatment system. The configuration optimization is essential for the high efficiency and the cost saving. For this purpose, it was designed to have syngas cooler to recover the sensible heat as much as possible from the hot syngas produced from the gasifier which is the dry-feeding and entrained bed slagging type and also applied with the oxygen combustion and the first stage cylindrical upward gas flow. The pressure condition inside of the gasifier is around 40~45Mpg and the temperature condition is up to $1500{\sim}1700^{\circ}C$. It was designed for about 70% out of fly ash to be drained out throughout the quenching water in the bottom part of the gasifier as a type of molten slag flowing down on the membrane wall and finally become a byproduct over the slag removal system. The flyash removal system to capture solid particulates is applied with HPHT ceramic candle filter to stand up against the high pressure and temperature. When it comes to the residual tiny particles after the flyash removal system, wet scurbbing system is applied to finally clean up the solids. The washed-up syngas through the wet scrubber will keep around $130{\sim}135^{\circ}C$, 40~42Mpg and 250 ppmv of hydrochloric acid(HCl) and hydrofluoric acid(HF) at maximum and it is turned over to the gas treatment system for removing toxic gases out of the syngas to comply with the conditions requested from the gas turbine. The result of this study will be utilized to the detailed engineering, procurement and manufacturing of equipments, and construction for the Taean IGCC plant and furthermore it is the baseline technology applicable for the poly-generation such as coal gasification(SNG) and liquefaction(CTL) to reinforce national energy security and create new business models.

Ammonia emission from swine production process originates from three major sources: manure storage facility, swine housing, and land application of manure. Most of the ammonia gas that are emitted from swine production operations is the by-product of aerobic or anaerobic decomposition of swine waste by microorganism. Knowing the ammonia emission rate is necessary to understand how management practices or alternative manure handling process could reduce impacts of this emission on the environment and neighbors. Ammonia gas emission from pig slurry is very difficult to predict because it is affected by many factors including wind speed of slurry surface, temperature or pH of the swine slurry, sort breed differences and classes, and diets. This study was carried out to effects of pH and temperature on ammonia gas emission from growing-finishing pig slurry. Treated far slurry in this study were pH and temperature. Results showed that pH of slurry variable changes 5, 6, 7, 8 upon an addition of NaOH and $HNO_3$, respectively. The temperature of the slurry which was contained in a water bath maintained at increasing levels ranging from 10 to $35^{\circ}C$. Ammonia emission rate of influenced pH and temperature such that the increase in pH or temperature resulted to an increase in ammonia emission. The ammonia gas was not detected at pH 5 and 6. Moreover, at a slurry of pH 8, the ammonia ranged from 28 to 60ppm and 8-29 ppm at slurry pH of 7 while temperature was 13 to $33^{\circ}C$. When slurry pH was>6, the ammonia emission was significantly increased according to rise in temperature in contrast to acid treatment of the pH. There was also a significantly increase in ammonia emission relative to slurry pH of 7 to 8. The above findings showed that to effectively reduce ammonia emission from slurry of growing-finishing pigs, the pH and temperature should be maintained a low levels.
The incineration process has commonly used for wastes amount reduction and thermal treatments of pollutants as the technologies accumulated. However, the process is getting negative public images owing to matter of hazardous pollutants emission. Specially dioxins became a main issue and is mostly emitted from municipal solid wastes incineration. In this reason, pyrolysis/gasfication/melting process is presented as a alternative of incineration process. The pyrolysis/gasfication/melting process, a novel technology, is middle of verification of commercial plant and development of technologies in Korea. But the survey about the pollutant emission from the process, and background data in these facilities is necessary. So in this survey, it Is investigated that the behavior of dioxins in three pyrolysis/gasfication/melting plant (S, T, P) of pilot scale. In case of S plant, concentration of dioxins shows high at latter part of cogenerated boiler and stack which are operate on low temperature conditions than a latter parts of pyrolysis and melting furnace which are operate on high temperature condition. Concentration of gas phage dioxins had increased after combusted gas passed cogenerated boiler and this is attributed to react of precursor materials such as chlorobenzene and chlorophenol. Concentration of dioxins in T plant showed lower levels at latter part of cooling equipment which are operate with water spray type on low temperature conditions than a latter parts of gasfied melting furnace which are operate on high temperature condition. Removal efficiency of dioxins at gas treatment equipment was 78.8 %. Concentration of dioxins in P plant was low at latter part of SDA/BF which is operate at low temperature conditions than a latter parts of pyrolysis gasfied chamber which are operate at high temperature condition. Removal efficiency of dioxins of SDA/BF was 85.9 % and therefore, it showed high efficiency at those of stoker type incineration facility. However, concentration of dioxins which emitted at high temperature condition were low in three facilities and satisfied present standard emission level of dioxins. To consider the distribution ratio of dioxins, Particulate phase dioxins at S and P plants showed similar ratio with which shows in current stoker type for middle scale domestic waste incineration facility. It is necessary to continuos monitoring the ratio of distribution of dioxins in T plant in because ratio of gas phage dioxins showed high.

Liquefied natural gas(LNG) is natural gas that has been converted temporarily to liquid form for ease of storage and transport it. Natural gas is the worlds cleanest burning fossil fuel and it has emerged as the environmentally preferred fuel of choice. In Korea, the demand of this has been increased since the first import from the Indonesia in 1986. LNG takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in the gaseous state by cooling it to approximately $-162^{\circ}C(-260^{\circ}F)$. The reduction in volume therefore makes it much more cost efficient to transport and store it. Modern LNG storage tanks are typically the full containment type, which is a double-wall construction with reinforced concrete outer wall and a high-nickel steel inner tank, with extremely efficient insulation between the walls. The insulation will be installed to LNG outer tank for the isolation of cryogenic temperature. The insulation will be installed in the base slab, wall and at the roof. According to the insulation's arrangement, the different aspects of temperature transmission is shown around the outer tank. As the result of the thermal & stress analysis, by the installing cellular glass underneath the perlite concrete, the temperature difference is greatly reduced between the ambient temperature and inside of concrete wall, also reducing section force according to temperature load.
In this study, we developed an experimental method of the Charles' law applicable to school. Science textbooks and literatures on this principle were analyzed to extract factors utilized in organizing the experimental setup and method. A combined structure such as with a vial and a glass tube, the former of which is for deciding the total volume and the latter of which is for easy measurement of volume, was better in measurement of volume with temperature rather than a simple structure such as syringe. Use of graduated cylinder as a water bath to control the temperature showed advantage in cooling time than using other bath of larger volume such as a beaker. A liquid drop was used as a plug in the glass tube. This plug has little resistance with the glass wall when the gas volume changes. Water as a liquid drop in the glass tube had a significant effect in volume change of gas due to evaporation, especially in the beginning of the measurement. Glycerol showing negligible effect in volume change was used. This method took about one hour and produced a good linear relationship between the temperature and volume of gas with $R^2$ = 0.999 and absolute zero temperature = $-216.7\;{^{\circ}C}$. The Charles' law experiment developed in this study can be performed with appropriate adjustment of procedure considering the purpose of the curriculum of science and chemistry subject at each school level.
We investigate the dependence of the extended X-ray emission from the halos of optically luminous early-type galaxies on the small-scale (the nearest neighbor distance) and large-scale (the average density inside the 20 nearest galaxies) environments. We cross-match the 3rd Data Release of the Second XMMNewton Serendipitous Source Catalog (2XMMi-DR3) to a volume-limited sample of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7 with $M_r$ < -19.5 and 0.020 < z < 0.085, and find 20 early-type galaxies that have extended X-ray detections. The X-ray luminosity of the galaxies is found to have a tighter correlation with the optical and near infrared luminosities when the galaxy is situated in the low large-scale density region than in the high large-scale density region. Furthermore, the X-ray to optical (r-band) luminosity ratio, $L_X/L_r$, shows a clear correlation with the distance to the nearest neighbor and with large-scale density environment only where the galaxies in pair interact hydrodynamically with seperations of $r_p$ < $r_{vir}$. These findings indicate that the galaxies in the high local density region have other mechanisms that are responsible for their halo X-ray luminosities than the current presence of a close encounter, or alternatively, in the high local density region the cooling time of the heated gas halo is longer than the typical time between the subsequent encounters.
As $CO_2$ emission with imprudent using fossil fuel, annual mean temperature of earth is increased in every year. Geothermal energy is inexhaustible energy resource to solve this problem. Heat pump performance and heat exchange efficiency of ground loop are important to distribute widely. Thus, this study are performed to increase heat pump performance and heat exchange efficiency of ground loop with dual expansion valves and spacer. As a results, COP of cooling & heating is obtained improvement up to 11.4% using dual expansion valves, and heat exchange efficiency is increased up to 17.5% using spacer. It will be reduced initial installation cost due to increasing heat pump performance and heat exchange efficiency of ground loop.

The dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) has low efficiency due to about 70% input power is consumed as thermal energy in the discharge space. However, because of the usage of DBD ozone generator is easier than other methods. The DBD ozone generator has been widely applied for high concentration ozone generation in the industrial application. But, the low-capacity compact DBD ozone generator is not applied so far. Therefore, the DBD ozone generator is necessary to improve ozone production efficiency and reduce the capacity. In this paper, the stainless steel pipe inner electrode was designed with hall type and screw type to improve the ozone production yield. The manufactured two inner electrodes were experimented with normal type for comparison of the discharge characteristics and the ozone generating characteristics. As the experimental results, the discharge current effective value of designed inner electrodes with hall type and screw type are higher than the normal type, due to unequal electric field is formed at the boundary. However, the difference of designed and original electrodes is less than 0.1mA that has no effect on the discharge characteristic. On the other hand, the screw type inner electrode increased higher than original model about 7 times when the flow rate of the oxygen source gas was increased from $0.6{\ell}/min$ to $1.0{\ell}/min$ The reason was assumed by the flow rate of the raw gas through the inner electrode was became fast that has a cooling effect. The designed hall type and screw type inner electrodes have shown good performances in ozone generation and ozone production that better than normal type in the same electrode surface area.

Global warming has led to an increase in demand of eco-friendly vehicles, such as electric cars, for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and especially, regulating carbon dioxide generation. In addition, electric vehicles are equipped with an electric drive-type hermetic scroll compressor and a refrigerant, which exhibit current and future trends of using environmentally friendly refrigerants, including R-1234yf. In this study, polyol ester-based refrigeration oils are prepared via condensation esterification of polyol and fatty acids. The oils can be combined with R-1234yf refrigerant for applications in air conditioning and cooling systems of electric vehicles. The structure of synthetic polyol esters is confirmed via 1H-NMR and FT-IR spectrum analysis, and the composition of the polyol ester is analyzed via gas chromatogram analysis. Furthermore, kinematic viscosity, viscosity index, total acid value, pour point, and color are analyzed as fundamental physical properties of the synthetic polyol esters. The compatibility and chemical stability of the synthetic polyol ester combined with the R-1234yf refrigerant are obtained via high temperature and high pressure oil-resistant refrigerant tests. The changes in the oil color and catalyst activity are observed before and after the experiment to determine whether it is suitable as a refrigerator oil.

For the case of the facilities using utilities such as cooling water and steam, risk of the facilities is zero because the consequence of failure (COF) through equipment damage area is zero. Therefore, to improve the estimation method of the risk by COF through equipment damage area in the risk-based inspection (RBI), this study developed the procedures of RBI, in which the risk was estimated by COF through financial loss. And, the RBI program (KS-RBI Ver 3.1) was developed to establish inspection interval based on the risk of the facilities estimated by COF through equipment damage area and financial loss, simultaneously, and the developed RBI program was applied to a petrochemical process. As a result, risks of the facilities estimated by COF through financial loss were similar to risks by COF through the equipment damage area. But, for the case of the facilities using utilities or expensive facilities, the estimation method of the risk by COF through financial loss was more accurate than through equipment damage area.
