In this paper we proposed an unsupervised algorithm to estimate the reverberation time (RT) directly from the reverberant speech signal. For estimation process we use maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) which is a very well-known and state of the art method for estimation in the field of signal processing. All existing RT estimation methods are based on the decay rate distribution. The decay rate can be obtained either from the energy envelop decay curve analysis of noise source when it is switch off or from decay curve of impulse response of an enclosure. The analysis of a pre-existing method of reverberation time estimation is the foundation of the proposed method. In one of the state of the art method, the reverberation decay is modeled as a Laplacian distribution. In this paper, the proposed method models the reverberation decay as a Gamma distribution along with the unification of an effective technique for spotting free decay in reverberant speech. Maximum likelihood estimation technique is then used to estimate the RT from the free decays. The method was motivated by our observation that the RT of a reverberant signal when falls in specific range, then the decay rate of the signal follows Gamma distribution. Experiments are carried out on different reverberant speech signal to measure the accuracy of the suggested method. The experimental results reveal that the proposed method performs better and the accuracy is high in comparison to the state of the art method.

We propose a flexible cure rate survival model by assuming that the number of competing causes of the event of interest has the Poisson distribution and the time for the event follows the gamma-G family of distributions. The extended family of gamma-G failure-time models with long-term survivors is flexible enough to include many commonly used failure-time distributions as special cases. We consider a frequentist analysis for parameter estimation and derive appropriate matrices to assess local influence on the parameters. Further, various simulations are performed for different parameter settings, sample sizes and censoring percentages. We illustrate the performance of the proposed regression model by means of a data set from the medical area (gastric cancer).

Optical wireless communication (OWC) systems are rapidly gaining popularity as effective means of transferring data at high rates over short distances. OWC facilitates rapidly deployable, lightweight, high-capacity communication without licensing fees and tariffs. Nevertheless, the performance of this new technology depends strongly on the atmospheric conditions and the characteristics of the link. In this work, we study the influence of these parameters on both the average (ergodic) capacity and the outage capacity of an OWC system over moderate to strong turbulence channels modeled by gamma-gamma distribution. Moreover, we compare the results that we obtain estimating the average and outage capacities.
Objective : The authors developed a stereotactic device for irradiation of small animals with Leksell Gamma Knife Model C. Development and verification procedures were described in this article. Methods : The device was designed to satisfy three requirements. The mechanical accuracy in positioning was to be managed within 0.5 mm. The strength of the device and structure were to be compromised to provide enough strength to hold a small animal during irradiation and to interfere the gamma ray beam as little as possible. The device was to be used in combination with the Leksell G-$frame^{(R)}$ and $KOPF^{(R)}$ rat adaptor. The irradiation point was determined by separate imaging sequences such as plain X-ray images. Results : The absolute dose rate with the device in a Leksell Gamma Knife was 3.7% less than the value calculated from Leksell Gamma $Plan^{(R)}$. The dose distributions measured with $GAFCHROMIC^{(R)}$ MD-55 film corresponded to those of Leksell Gamma $Plan^{(R)}$ within acceptable range. The device was used in a series of rat experiments with a 4 mm helmet of Leksell Gamma Knife. Conclusion : A stereotactic device for irradiation of small animals with Leksell Gamma Knife Model C has been developed so that it fulfilled above requirements. Absorbed dose and dose distribution at the center of a Gamma Knife helmet are in acceptable ranges. The device provides enough accuracy for stereotactic irradiation with acceptable practicality.

In this paper, we propose the fast and efficient detection method using the continuous measurement technique for the gamma-ray signal acquisition. This method is improved than the conventional method for the getting information of the radiation distribution. First, we implement the stereo radiation detection system using gamma-ray sensors and the motion controller. We apply continuous measurement technique to the gamma-ray detector and conduct gamma-ray irradiation test for the comparison of detection techniques. The results show that the continuous measurement technique has the high efficient performance than the conventional method.
Quantum mechanical calculation is performed for the $O(^1D)$ + HCl ${\rightarrow}$OH + Cl reaction using Reactive Infinite Order Sudden Approximation. Shifting approximation is also employed for the l ${\neq}$ 0 partial wave contributions. Various dynamical quantities are calculated and compared with available experimental results and quasiclassical trajectory results. Vibrational distributions agree well with experimental results i.e. product states mostly populated at $v_f$ = 3, 4. Our results also show small peak at $v_f$ = 0, which indicates bimodal vibrational distribution. The results show two significant broad peaks in ${\gamma}_i$ dependence of the cross section, one is at ${\gamma}_i$ = $15^{\circ}-35^{\circ}$ and the another is at ${\gamma}_i$= $55^{\circ}-75^{\circ}$ which can be explained as steric effects. At smaller gi, the distribution is peaked only at higher state ($v_f$ = 3, 4) while at the larger gi, both lower state ($v_f$ = 0) and higher state ($v_f$ = 3, 4) are significantly populated. Such two competing contributions (smaller and larger ${\gamma}_i$) result in the bimodal distribution. From these points we suggest two mechanisms underlying in current reaction system: one is that reaction occurs in a direct way, while the another is that reaction occurs in a indirect way.
Maximum dry unit weight, ${\gamma}_{dmax}$, is the most important engineering properties for subgrade soil. Existing models to predict ${\gamma}_{dmax}$ containing many parameters, seem to be rather complex. This paper presents new simple models to predict ${\gamma}_{dmax}$. for sandy soils, A number of sieve analysis and compaction tests for 36 types of sands were conducted to develop the regression-based models. Parameters used to estimate ${\gamma}_{dmax}$ are both the geometric mean and geometric standard deviation of the soils, or the particle-size distribution curve parameters. Maximum dry unit weights predicted by the models are in good agreement with the laboratory measurements for the soil samples obtained at 16 locations within the Korea.
The dose distribution evaluation program for the stereotactic radiosurgery treatment planning system using a gamma knife has been built in order to work on PC. And this custom-made dose distribution is compared with that of commercial treatment planning program. 201 source position of a radiation unit were determined manually using a gamma knife collimator draft and geometrical coordinates. Dose evaluation algorithm was modified for our purpose from the original KULA, a commercial treatment planning program. With the composed program, dose distribution at the center of a spherical phantom, 80 mm in diameter, was evaluated into axial, coronal and sagittal image per each collimator. Along with this evaluated data, the dose distribution at a arbitrary point of inside the phantom was compared with those from KULA. Radiochromic film was set up at the center of the phantom and was irradiated by gamma knife, for the verification of dose distribution. In result, the deviation of the dose distribution from that of KULA is less than ${\pm}$3%, which is equivalent to ${\pm}$0.3 mm in 50% isodose distribution for all examined coordinates and film verification. The custom-made program, GPl is proven to be a good tool for the stereotactic radiosurgery treatment planning program.

Information on the distribution of the basic random variables is essential for the accurate evaluation of structural reliability. The usual method for determining the distribution is to fit a candidate distribution to the histogram of available statistical data of the variable and perform appropriate goodness-of-fit tests. Generally, such candidate distributions would have two parameters that may be evaluated from the mean value and standard deviation of the statistical data. In the present paper, a-parameter Gamma distribution, whose parameters can be directly defined in terms of the mean value, standard deviation and skewness of available data, is suggested. The flexibility and advantages of the distribution in fitting statistical data and its significance in structural reliability evaluation are identified and discussed. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate these advantages.
Histogram equalization generally has the disadvantage that if the distribution of the gray level of an image is concentrated in one place, then the range of the gray level in the output image is excessively expanded, which then produces a visually unnatural result. However, a gamma transformation can reduce such unnatural appearances since it operates under a nonlinear regime. Therefore, this paper proposes a new histogram equalization method that can improve image quality by using a gamma transformation. The proposed method 1) derives the proper form of the gamma transformation by using the average brightness of the input image, 2) linearly combines the earlier gamma transformation with a CDF (Cumulative Distribution Function) for the image in order to obtain a new CDF, and 3) to finally perform histogram equalization by using the new CDF. The experimental results show that relative to existing methods, the proposed method provides good performance in terms of quantitative measures, such as entropy, UIQ, SSIM, etc., and it also naturally enhances the image quality in visual perspective as well.
