  • For the safe operation of autonomous vehicles, the representative technology of the 4th industrial revolution era, a combination of various technologies such as sensor technology, software technology and car technology is required. An autonomous vehicle is a vehicle that recognizes current location and situation by using the various sensors, and makes its own decisions without depending on the driver. Perfect recognition technology is required for fully autonomous driving. Since the precise road maps provide various road information including lanes, stop lines, traffic lights and crosswalks, it is possible to minimize the cognitive errors that occur in autonomous vehicles by using the precise road maps with location information of the road facilities. In this study, the definition, necessity and technical trends of the precise road map have been analyzed, and the HD(High Definition) map prototype based on the web GIS has been built in the autonomous driving-specialized areas of Daegu Metropolitan City(Suseong Medical District, about 24km), the Happy City of Sejong Special Self-Governing City(about 33km), and the FMTC(Future Mobility Technical Center) PG(Proving Ground) of Seoul National University Siheung Campus using the MMS(Mobile Mapping System) surveying results given by the National Geographic Information Institute. In future research, the built-in precise road map service will be installed in the autonomous vehicles and control systems to verify the real-time locations and its location correction algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a matching method of GIS lane information with a vehicle position using camera image to reduce DGPS error. Images of straight road are taken using a camera that is installed on the front center of the vehicle, and the distance between the vehicle and the lane are estimated using the images. The current GIS lane data is matched by comparing the estimated distance and the measured distance using a DGPS. Inverse perspective mapping is used to minimize the error of image processing from the heading angle, and single buffering method is applied to decide the exact moment of GIS match. Through practical test on the highway, feasibility of the GIS matching using camera image is confirmed.

  • We propose a semantics filter aimed at filtering unnecessary data for a user. In the Geographic Information Systems (GIS), transfer of spatial data for each user is one of the important problems. We design a system that filters spatial data by using user's information adaptively. Our system derives the degree of geographical knowledge and the priority of buildings by using fuzzy reasoning. Furthermore, this system computes the priority of roads by deriving the contiguity relation between a building and a road. This paper describes a method for filtering of spatial data.

  • Since the current database systems for managing geotechnical investigation results were limited by being described boring test result in point feature, it has been trouble for using other GIS data. Although there are some studies for spatial characteristics of subsurface modeling, it is rather lack of being interoperable with GIS, considering geotechnical engineering facts. This is reason for difficulty of practical uses. In this study, we has developed subsurface spatial information model through extracting needed geotechnical engineering data from geotechnical information DB. The developed geotechnical information clustering program(GEOCL) has made a cluster of boring formation(and formation ratio), classification of layer, and strength characteristics of subsurface. The interpolation of boring data has been achieved through zonal kriging method in the consideration of spatial distribution of created cluster. Finally, we make a subsurface spatial information model to integrate with digital elevation model, and visualize 3-dimensional model by subsurface spatial information viewing program(SSIVIEW). We expect to strengthen application capacity of developed model in subsurface interpretation and foundation design of construction works.

  • This paper describes the GIS system that enables users to look up the final destination on a map automatically by setting up a random radius of threshold under the present user position. Various information systems based on the existing GIS have disadvantage that a search is difficult when the destination location is not clear. And it is inefficient that the processing time is delay due to a complex configuration and large amount of informations based on the target of special business supports. Therefore, this paper improves these problems and proposes the customized geographic information system which is for the general user. The customized geographic information system confirms the detail items from search results, which is destinations fitting for a condition in the suitable radius of threshold from the present user position. And the user can look up the suitable final destination on a map easily using the customized information system. The result of this paper, which is based on the sample of the large unit locations, will be expected to be able to guide more detail, extensive and various informations.

  • Rural water resources systems may be largely constituted by two parts. One is rural water supply systems such as reservoirs, wells, pumping stations. The other is rural water demand systems which include municipal water, irrigation water, industrial water, livestocks water, inland fisheries water and envir¬onmental water in rural areas. planning to develop rural water resources systems is a very hard task because of their complicated factors and the large number of spatial data to investigate and manipulate. A Geographic Information SystemCGIS) will be a powerful and efficient tool to handle the spatial data and to plan the land use. All data can be efficiently maintained and easily updated. This paper refers to the construction of a GIS for planning rural water resources systems applied to Kokseong County, Cheonnam Province, Republic of Korea. The Geographic Informa¬tion was constituted by 4 layers of base map and 11 layers of thematic map.

  • Even though Korea's national project - NGIS(National Geographic Information System) has been built since 1995 and the GIS database for underground facilities has also been built, not so many systems are utilizing those databases currently. Also, the waterworks GIS developed and operated by K-Water is not used effectively in supporting field works. In order to manage and operate the waterworks pipelines effectively, systematic supporting strategy must be established by adopting the state-of-the-art technology. In this research, a ubiquitous-based strategy for managing waterworks facilities is proposed to increase the usability of the existing related databases and to ensure the systematic way of distributing information. The current status of the existing waterworks GIS and GIS database were analyzed to achieve the goal. By studying the state-of-the-art technology, we found that importing the LBS technology to the databases is necessary. The results of these efforts are exclusive waterworks-mobile-terminals and LBS system supporting them. Furthermore, the applicability of the ubiquitous technology to waterworks has been examined to realize the real-time waterworks management.

  • Most advanced countries in GIS field have established and managed georeferenced socioeconomic data systematically and made a great profit on various social and economic areas. In Korea, however, socioeconomic geographical information is relatively poor compared to systems related to geographical and topographical features. This is mainly due to the characteristics of the process from the construction to the utilization of socioeconomic data. That is, from the stage of data construction, socioeconomic data require solutions for frequent changes compared to data on geographical and topographical features and, because of difficulties in marking the positions of individual entities, information is built up through setting appropriate spatial units of aggregation. In the stage of data utilization, the data often need to be combined with other types of socioeconomic data due to the complexity of socioeconomic phenomena. Thus, the this study examined usability of GIS in socioeconomic fields and the spatial dimension of socioeconomic information through representative cases of GIS in developed countries and, based on the results, derived data requirements for socioeconomic GIS found in the construction and utilization of data and proposed solutions for the requirements.

  • Korean government has constructed a nationwide cadastral map database through the cadastral map computerization project and also produced a variety of spatial data through the NGIS (National Geographic Information Systems) project. Under this circumstance, it is needed to set up the new automatic methodology that effectively solve cadastral non-coincidence problems by using various digital map data instead of expensive field survey methods. This study proposed a new automatic methodology for cadastral non-coincidence surveying and developed a prototype system as a proof of concept. Validation of this proposed method was done with some test areas. Results showed that this methodology could easily detect and assess both regional non-coincidence levels and cadastral map quadrangle non-coincidence levels. We expect that this new methodology can provide many benefits in planning and determining work priority of the forthcoming nationwide cadastral re-surveying project.

  • Recently, there have been many projects regarding restoration of streams to recover their environmental and ecological functions. For the restoration of streams, it is valuable academically and economically to evaluate the ecological condition of streams and build a plan and an object for restoring streams based on that. On the other hand, one of the methods to figure out the ecological condition of streams is to evaluate the hydromorphological structure of stream. In this study we have developed a field survey system using the stream assessment methode of LAWA (Laenderarbeitsgemeinschaft Wasser in Germany) that can assess the hydromorphological structure of small and medium streams. In addition, we constructed a GIS-based stream assesment system which can support auto mapping system and report writing, using the survey results. These systems are aimed to help people in the area of restoring streams perceive the natural and ecological condition of streams in the process of making plans and managing the projects, and they also try to help in collecting raw data to determine an ideal potential model to which an existing stream should be turned.
