The paper presents experimental results of self-healing effects of OPC-GGBFS paste with cracked and uncracked specimens. The self-healing of cracked specimens is processes of crack closing with re-hydration of unhydrated in crack surface. The OPC paste with GGBFS replacement ratios of 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% were prepared having a constant water-binder ratios of 0.5. The OPC-GGBFS paste specimens immersed in tap-water and sea-water. The temperature of tap and sea-water was $5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and $25^{\circ}C$. The cracked specimens after deterioration were immersed for 60 days. The relationship between self-healing effect and age-effect was calculate based upon the experimental results. The self-healing effect was measured in ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) before and after loading. When the relative change rate of UPV is increases with the increase in GGBFS replacement ratios. Moreover, the self-healing effect is increased with the temperature of tap-water is increase. But the cracked specimens immersed in sea-water was unclear effects of different temperature. Furemore, most of the healing for OPC-GGBFS specimens immersed in tap-water and sea-water occurred during the first 30 days. The self-healing effect until 30 days is higher than that the age-effect. After 30 days, self-effect and age-effect was largely decreases. SEM/EDS analysis of crack on the surface of the specimens in tap-water were covered with aragonite, and sea-water were covered with brucite.

The aim of this research work is to investigate the mix proportion of multi-component cement incorporating ground granulated blast furnace(GGBFS), fly ash(FA) and silica fume(SF) as an addition to cement in ternary and quaternary combinations. The water-binder ratio was 0.45. In this study, 50% and 60% replacement ratios of mineral admixture to OPC was used, while series of combination of 20~40% GGBFS, 5~35% FA and 0~15% SF binder were used for fundamental characteristics tests. This study concern the GGBFS/FA ratio and SF contents of multi-component cement including the compressive strength, water absorptions, ultrasonic pulse velocity(UPV), drying shrinkage and X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysises. The results show that the addition of SF can reduce the water absorption and increase the compressive strength, UPV and drying shrinkage. These developments in the compressive strength, UPV and water absorption can be attributed to the fact that increase in the SF content tends basically to consume the calcium hydroxide crystals released from the hydration process leading to the formation of further CSH(calcium silicate hydrate). The strength, water absorption and UPV increases with an increase in GGBFS/FA ratios for a each SF contents. The relationship between GGBFS/FA ratios and compressive strength, water absorption, UPV is close to linear. It was found that the GGBFS/FA ratio and SF contents is the key factor governing the fundamental properties of multi-component cement.
The usage of Ground Granulated Blast Furnance Slag (GGBFS) has been increased recently. Studies on the cement hydration model incorporating GGBFS as well as the properties of cement paste done with GGBFS such as compressive strength, hydration products and hydration heat have been the subjects of many researches. However, studies on the reaction degree of GGBFS that affect the properties of cement paste incorporating GGBFS are lacking globally and specially in Korea. Thus, in this study, the reaction degree of GGBFS using the method if selective dissolution, compressive strength, the amount of chemical bound water and $Ca(OH)_2$ were measured and analysed in accordance with water-binder ratio, replacement ratio of GGBFS, and curing temperature. The results show that the reaction degree of GGBFS, the amount of chemical bound water and $Ca(OH)_2$ in cement paste with GGBFS were higher in conditions where the replacement ratio of GGBFS was low and both water-binder ratio and curing temperature were high. Finally, the reaction degree of GGBFS was achieved at a value between 0.3~0.4.
The study herein reports the impact of Steel Fiber (SF) and Ground Granulated Blast Furnaces slag (GGBFS) content on the fresh and hardened properties of fly ash (FA) based Self-Compacting Geopolymer Concrete (SCGC). Two series of self-compacting geopolymer concrete (SCGC) were formulated with a constant binder content of $450kg/m^3$ and at an alkaline-to-binder (a/b) ratio of 0.50. Fly ash (FA) was substituted with GGBFS with the replacement levels being 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% by weight in each SCGC series. Steel fiber (SF) wasn't employed in the assembly of the initial concrete series whereas, within the second concrete series, an SF combination was achieved by a constant additional level of 1% by volume. Fresh properties of mixtures were through an experiment investigated in terms of slump flow diameter, T50 slump flow time, V-funnel flow time, and L-box height ratio. Moreover, the mechanical performance of the SCGCs was evaluated in terms of compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and fracture toughness. Furthermore, a statistical analysis was applied in order to judge the importance of the experimental parameters, like GGBFS and SF contents. The experimental results indicated that the incorporation of SF had no vital impact on the fresh characteristics of the SCGC mixtures whereas GGBFS aggravated them. However, the incorporation of GGBFS was considerably improved the mechanical properties of SCGCs. Moreover, the incorporation of SF with the total different quantity of GGBFS replacement has considerably increased the mechanical properties of SCGCs, by close to (65%) for the splitting strength and (200%) for compressive strength.

Among the deteriorating agents, chloride ion is reported to be one of the most harmful ions due to its rapid diffusion and direct effect on steel corrosion. Cold joint which occurs in mass concrete placing is vulnerable to shear resistance and more severe deterioration. The paper presents an quantitative evaluation of chloride diffusion coefficient in OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) and GGBFS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) concrete containing cold joint. GGBFS concrete shows $6.6{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$ which is almost 30% level of OPC concrete results and the trend is repeated in the case of cold joint concrete. Compared with OPC concrete, GGBFS concrete is evaluated to have better resistance to chloride penetration, showing 0.30 times of chloride diffusion coefficient in concrete without cold joint 0.39 times with cold joint, respectively.

The glass of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag(GGBFS) was released by the hydroxyl ions during the hydration of the Portland cement. That results in relatively less $Ca(OH)_{2}$ in the concrete replaced with GGBFS than in ordinary portland cement concrete(OPCC). As the quantity of $Ca(OH)_{2}$ is decreased, the rate of carbonation in the concrete replaced GGBFS is faster than OPCC. Therefore, it has been misunderstood that the concrete replaced GGBFS has negative effect on the corrosion of steel by carbonation. Therefore, this study aimed at the relation between carbonation and rebar corrsion in the concrete with GGBFS, measuring air.water permeability, half cell, and corrosion rate by the depth of carbonation.

It is necessary to calculate Apparent Activation Energy(Ea) in order to apply the equivalent age formula to predict compressive strength using the maturity method. For carbon reduction, it is necessary to consider the change of Ea by condition of GGBFS concrete, which is widely used today. In this study, as a basic study for the design of the compressive strength model of GGBFS concrete, the apparent activation energy of the GGBFS mixed paste was calculated through a calorimeter. The experiment was carried out at a hydration temperature of 10 to 30℃ with a paste test specimen having a GGBFS content of 0 to 80%. As a result, the GGBFS replacement rate of the paste increased, and Ea tended to increase as the temperature decreased.
This paper aims to investigate the effects of replacing cement with ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) in self compacting concrete in the fresh and hardened state. The performance of SCC in moderate climate is well investigated but few studies are available on the effect of hot environment. In this paper, the effect of initial water-curing period and curing conditions on the performance of SCC is reported. Cement was substituted by GGBFS by weight at two different levels of substitution (15% and 25%). Concrete specimens were stored either in a standard environment (T=$20^{\circ}C$, RH=100%) or in the open air in North Africa during the summer period (T=35 to $40^{\circ}C$; R.H=50 to 60%) after an initial humid curing period of 0, 3, 7 or 28 days. Compressive strength at 28 and 90 days, capillary absorption, sorptivity, water permeability, porosity and chloride ion penetration were investigated. The results show that the viscosity and yield stress are decreased with increasing dosage of GGBFS. The importance of humid curing in hot climates in particular when GGBFS is used is also proved. The substitution of cement by GGBFS improves SCC durability at long term. The best performances were observed in concrete specimens with 25% GGBFS and for 28 days water curing.

To develop high-strength high-volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) concrete, this study investigated the characteristics of strength development and durability of concrete with the water-to-binder ratio of 23% and the GGBFS replacement ratio of up to 65%. The results show that the compressive strength of GGBFS blended concrete is lower than that of ordinary Portland cement (OPC) concrete up to 3-day age, but the becomes higher after 7-day age. Together with strength increase, the pore structure becomes tighter, and thus the resistance to chloride ion penetration increases. Therefore, the GGBFS blended concrete has high resistance to freezing and thawing without additional air-entraining, and high resistance to carbonation despite low amount of calcium hydroxide ($Ca(OH)_2$). On the other hand, if silica fume (SF) is blended with GGBFS, the strength becomes lower than that of the concrete blended with GGBFS only, and the resistance to chloride ion penetration deceases. Therefore, it needs further studies on the reaction of SF in high-strength high-volume GGBFS concrete.

In this study, the effects of ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBFS) and expansive additive(EA) on early strength mortar were examined for the purpose of reducing carbon and improving cement performance. As a result, ealry strength Portland cement(EPC) tended to decrease in flow compared to ordinary Portland cement(OPC), but binder with EPC and GGBFS was possible to obtain higher liquidity than OPC. EPC showed higher compressive strength and shrinkage than OPC. The compressive strength of specimen with EPC and GGBFS was reduced proportionally to the replacement ratio of GGBFS. The replacement ratio of GGBFS above the compressive strength equivalent to OPC was higher under low temperature conditions. The use of GGBFS resulted in high shrinkage compared to OPC, and this characteristic was even greater under low temperature conditions. The shrinkage of specimen with EA was decreased in early ages, but was higher than the OPC in long-term ages.
