Design of ALGaAs/GaAs HBT CML Logic Circuit (ALGaAs/GaAs HBT CML 논리 회로 설계)

  • AIGaAs /GaAs HBT OR /NOR gate. which can be used for high speed digital system was designed. Equivalent circuit parameters of HBT were obtained from Gummel-Poon's model and direct extraction method. Simulation results with PSPI CE showed that propagation delay time and cutoff toggle frequency of designed gate were 25ps and 200Hz, respectively. the designed gate exhibited superior properties to the recently reported HBT ECL and MESFET SCFL when considering the fan-out characteristics and noise margin.

  • A new efficient method for GaAs MESFET model parameter extraction is proposed, which is based on the bias dependance of each parameter characteristics derved from the analytic model. The requiremnts of the method are only small-signal S-parameter measurements under the three bias variations. Fixation of the linear model parameter values in the optimization process is made using the sensitivity information of the model parameter obtained by the weighted Broyden update method, it is to improve the uniqueness and reliablility of the solution. The validity of the extracted values of the FET model parameters is confirmed by comparing the simulation results with the experimental data.

A New Semi-Empirical Model for the Backgating Effect on the Depletion Width Modulation in GaAs MESFET's

  • A simple and efficient way of modeling backgating in GaAs MESFET's is presented through depletion width modulation of Schottky junction and channel-substrate interface. It is shown semi-empirically that such a modulation of depletion widths causes serious troubles in designing precision circuits since backgating drastically reduces threshold voltage of MESFET as well as drain current. Finally, some of the results are compared with reported experimental results. This model may serve as a starting point for rigorous characterization of backgating effect on various device parameters of GaAs MESFET's.

  • This paper presents a GA(Genetic Algorithms)-Optical control strategy for the control of the swing motion and the transverse position of the overhead crane. The overhead crane system is defined uncertain due to unknown system parameters such as payload and trolly mass. To control the overhead crane. the GA-Optimal control scheme is suggested. which transfers a trolly to a desired place as fast as possible and minimizes the swing of the payload during the transfer. The genetic algorithms are applied to fine digital optimal feedback gains. A computer simulation demonstrate the performance of the proposed the GA-digital optimal controller for the overhead crane.

  • To date, many viable smart base isolation systems have been proposed. In this study, a novel friction pendulum system (FPS) and an MR damper are employed as the isolator and supplemental damping device, respectively. A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used to modulate the MR damper. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used for optimization of the FLC. The main purpose of employing a GA is to determine appropriate fuzzy control rules as well to adjust parameters of the membership functions. To this end, a GA with a local improvement mechanism is applied. Neuro-fuzzy models are used to represent dynamic behavior of the MR damper and FPS. Effectiveness of the proposed method for optimal design of the FLC is judged based on computed responses to several historical earthquakes. It has been shown that the proposed method can find appropriate fuzzy rules and the GA-optimized FLC outperforms not only a passive control strategy but also a human-designed FLC and a conventional semi-active control algorithm.

Optical Determination of the Heavy-hole Effective Mass of (in, Ga)As/GaAs Quantum Wells

  • We determine the reduced mass of heavy-hole exciton and the heavy-hole in-plane mass for a series of (In, Ga)As/GaAs strained layer quantum wells using the magnetolu-minescence measurements of the exciton ground state and the modified perturbation approach. In the theoretical calculation of the magnetoexciton ground state, the exciton reduced mass is considered as an adjustable parameter, and two variation parameters are used in the unperturbed wave function which is expressed in terms of subband wave functions in the growth axis and the product of two-dimensional hydrogen and oscillator like wave functions for the in-plane component. We take into account the energy dependence of transverse and in-plane electron masses in the twoband effective mass approximation. The electron effective mass decreases as either quantum-well width or indium composition increases, and so does the heavy-hole in-plane mass down to the value at the decoupling limit ($m_{hh,\;{\rho}}=0.11m_0$).

  • A classical PID controller is designed by applying the GA (Genetic Algorithm) which searches the optimal parameters through three major operators of reproduction, crossover and mutation under the given constraints. The GA could minimize the designer's interference and the whole design process could easily be automated. In contrast with other traditional PID design methods which allows for the system output responses only, the design with the GA can take account of the magnitude or the rate of change of control input together with the output responses, which reflects the more realistic situations. Compared with other PIDs designed by the traditional methods such as Ziegler and analytic, the PID by the GA shows the superior response characteristics to those of others with the least control input energy.

  • In this paper, we design the optimal satellite-tracking antenna $H_{\infty}$ control system using genetic algorithm(GA). To do this, we give gain and dynamics parameters to the weighting functions and apply GA with reference model to the optimal determination of weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ that are given by Glover-Doyle algorithm which can design $H_{\infty}$ controller in the state space. These weighting functions and design parameter ${\gamma}$ are simultaneously optimized in tile search domain guaranteeing the robust stability of closed-loop system. The effectiveness of this satellite-tracking antenna $H_{\infty}$ control system is verified by computer simulation.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fitnesness function of GA for slowly time-varying plant. Previous Takgi-Sugeno model based controller is used as basic control scheme and Controller parameters are tuned by GA with the proposed fitness function includes the information of model parameter variation and has better performance robustness than the previous ones. We illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed fitness function by simple simulation example.

  • Genetic Algorithm(GA), which is based on the theory of natural evolution, has been evaluated highly for their robust performances. The optimization problems on truss structures under the prescribed displacement are solved by using GA. In this paper, the homologous deformation of structures was proposed as the prescribed displacement. The shape analysis of structures is a kind of inverse problems different from stress analysis, and the governing equation becomes nonlinear. In this regard, GA was used to solve the nonlinear equation. In this study, the shape analysis method in which not only the positions of the objective nodes but also the layout and sectional area of the member are encoded to strings in the GA as design parameters of the structures is proposed.
