During winter, the CWR (continuous welded rail) may be broken when a temperature drop below the neutral level changes the axial force, causing tensile fracture and creating a rail gap. The passage of a train on a rail with an open gap may lead to very costly derailments. In this paper, the use of a track-and-train-coupled model whose rail has an open gap is proposed for dynamic interaction analysis. Linear track and train systems were coupled in this study by a nonlinear Herzian contact spring, and the complete system matrices of the total track-train system were constructed. Moreover, the interaction phenomenon considering the presence of an open gap in the rail was toughly defined by assigning the irregularity functions between the two sides of the gap. Time history analysis, which has an iteration scheme such as the Newmark-$\beta$ method (based on the Modified Newton-Raphson methods), was conducted to solve the nonlinear equation. .Finally, numerical studies were conducted to assess the effect of the various parameters of the system when applied to various speeds, open-gap sizes, and support stiffnesses of the rail.

The closed forms of mass matrix with rotational inertia matrix are developed for free vibration analysis in space structures containing linearing tapered members with cross section of thin-walled tube. The exact displacement functions are used for formulating mass matrix. The very small slopes of the tapered member are used in usual practice, such that the series expansion forms of these are also developed to avoid numerical failure in vibration analysis. Significant improvements of accuracy and efficiency of free vibration analysis are achieved by using the mass matrices developed in this study. Frequencies of free vibration of tapered members are compared with solutions based upon stepped representation of beam element.

It is very difficult to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain accurate cutting profiles because machining errors caused by tool deflection depend upon cutting conditions. In this study the relationship between real cutting profiles (inclined shapes and machining errors) and cutting conditions was modeled in order to fabricate draft angle on micro molds. CCD (Central Composite Design) of DOE (Design Of Experiment) and RSM (Response Surface Method) were applied in order to model the relationship between cutting conditions and machining errors. In order to use CCD the range of radial depth of cut was chosen by $10-90{\mu}m$ and the range of feedrate was chosen by 200-300mm/min, and 9 points of cutting conditions were chosen inside determined ranges. Then, actual cutting processes were carried out as respect to 9 points of cutting conditions, draft angles and real cutting profiles were measured on cutting profiles, each response surface function was determined by conducting response surface analysis and the functions were represented by 3-dimensional graphs, contour lines and $101{\times}101$ matrices. Consequently it is possible to determine suitable cutting conditions in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angles and cutting profiles by using modeling. To validate proposed approach in this study suitable cutting conditions were determined by modeling in order to obtain arbitrary given draft angle and cutting profile, and actual cutting processes were carried out. About 95% of good agreement between predicted and measured values was obtained.

For free vibration of non-symmetric thin-walled circular arches including restrained warping effect, the elastic strain and kinetic energy is derived by introducing displacement fields of circular arches in which all displacement parameters are defined at the centroid axis. The cubic Hermitian polynomials are utilized as shape functions for development of the curved thin-walled beam element having eight degrees of freedom. Analytical solution for in-plane free vibration behaviors of simply supported thin-walled curved beams with monosymmetric cross-sections is newly derived. Also, a finite element formulation using two noded curved beams element is presented by evaluating elastic stiffness and mass matrices. In order to illustrate the accuracy and practical usefulness of this study, analytical and numerical solutions for free vibration of circular arches are presented and compared with solutions analyzed by the straight beam element and the ABAQUS's shell element.

For stability design and P-${\Delta}$ analysis of steel frames with semi-rigid connections, the explicit form of the exact tangential stiffness matrix of a generalized semi-rigid frame element having rotational and translational connections is firstly derived using the stability functions. And its elastic and geometric stiffness matrix is consistently obtained by Taylor series expansion. Next depending on connection types of semi-rigidity, the corresponding tangential stiffness matrices are degenerated based on penalty method and static condensation technique. And then numerical procedures for determination of effective buckling lengths of generalized semi-rigid frames members and P-${\Delta}$ and shortly addressed. Finally three numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity and accuracy of the proposed method. Particularly the minimum braced frames and coupled buckling modes of the corresponding frames are investigated.

CWR (Continuous Welded Rail) may be broken when a temperature drop below the neutral temperature changes in axial force, causing tensile fracture and rail gap, in winter. Rail-breaks may lead to the damage of the rail and wheel by dynamic load, and the reduction of running safety if not detected before the passage of a train. In this paper, the concept of the infinite element is applied to the linear wave diffraction and radiation problems. The hydrodynamic pressure forces are assumed to be inertially dominated, and viscous effects are neglected. The near field region surrounding the solid body is modelled using the conventional finite elements, and the far field region is represented using the infinite elements .In order to represent the scattered wave potentials in the far field region more accurately, the infinite elements are developed using special shape functions derived from the asymptotic expressions for the analytical eigenseries solution of the scattered waves. The system matrices of the infinite elements are constructed by performing the integration in the infinite direction analytically to achieve computational efficiency. Numerical analyses are carried out for vertical axisymmetric bodies to validate the infinite elements developed here. Comparisons with the results by other available numerical solution methods show that the present method using the infinite elements gives fairly good results. Numerical experiments are per-formed to determine the suitable location of the infinite elements and the appropriate size of the finite elements which directly affect accuracy and efficiency of the solution.

In this paper, we presents a new cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) system for the reconstruction of 3 dimensional dynamic images. The system using cone beam has less the exposure of radioactivity than fan beam, relatively. In the system, the reconstruction 3-D image is reconstructed with the radiation angle of X-ray in the image processing unit and transmitted to the monitor. And in the image processing unit, the Three Pass Shear Matrices, a kind of Rotation-based method, is applied to reconstruct 3D image because it has less transcendental functions than the one-pass shear matrix to decrease a time of calculations for the reconstruction 3-D image in the processor. The new system is able to get 3~5 3-D images a second, reconstruct the 3-D dynamic images in real time. And we showed the Rotation-based method was good rather than existing reconstruction technique for 3D images, also found weakness and a solution for it.
This paper presents a new fast algorithm, rotation-based method (RBM), for the reconstruction of 3 dimensional image for cone beam computerized tomography (CB CT) system. The system used cone beam has less exposure time of radioactivity than fan beam. The Three-Pass Shear Matrices (TPSM) is applied, that has less transcendental functions than the one-pass shear method to decrease a time of calculations in the computer. To evaluate the quality of the 3-D images and the time for the reconstruction of the 3-D images, another 3-D images were reconstructed by the radon transform under the same condition. For the quality of the 3-D images, the images by radon transform was shown little good quality than REM. But for the time for the reconstruction of the 3-D images REM algorithm was 35 times faster than radon transform. This algorithm offered $4{\sim}5$ frames a second. It meant that it will be possible to reconstruct the 3-D dynamic images in real time.

This paper is concerned with developing infinite elements which are applicable to wave diffraction and radiation problems in the vertical plane. The near need region surrounding the solid body is modeled using conventional finite elements. but the far fold region is represented using the infinite elements developed in this study. The shape functions for the infinite elements are derived from the analytical eigenseries solution of the scattered waves in the far field region. The system matrices of the elements are constructed by performing the integration in the infinite direction analytically to achieve computational efficiency. Numerical analysis is carried out for two floating bodies with different cross-sectional shapes to prove the efficiency and validity of the elements. Numerical experiments are also performed to determine the suitable location of the infinite elements which directly affect accuracy and efficiency of the solution.
