  • RAFT polymerization can produce under controlled conditions polymer chains incorporating well-defined chain ends. By designing a simple way of producing functional RAFT agents, a variety of ${\Box}-end$ groups was successfully introduced onto hydrophilic polymer chains. The ${\Box}-end$ group being a thiocarbonyl thio function was used as efficient chain transfer agent in dispersion or emulsion polymerization to produce original functional latex particles.

  • Dense nanostructured $2MoSi_{2}-SiC$ composites were synthesized by the pulsed current activated combustion synthesis (PCACS) method within 3 minutes in one step from mechanically activated powders of $Mo_{2}C$ and 5Si. Simultaneous combustion synthesis and densification were accomplished under the combined effects of a pulsed current and mechanical pressure. Highly dense $2MoSi_{2}-SiC$ with relative density of up to 96% was produced under simultaneous application of a 60 MPa pressure and the pulsed current. The average grain size of $MoSi_{2}$ and SiC were about 120 nm and 90 nm, respectively. The hardness and fracture toughness values obtained were 1350 $kg/mm^{2}$ and 4 $MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively.

  • The present work aimed to explore green approach via aqueous leaves extract of Murraya koenigii (ALEMk) for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPsMk) in single step. The synthesis process was visualized with a color change and monitored by employing UV/Visible spectroscopy and a clear peak attained at 420 nm confirming the synthesis of AgNPsMk. The possible functional groups present in the extract which participated in the synthesis of AgNPsMk were identified with the help of FTIR spectroscopy. Further characterization using TEM images revealed the spherical shape of AgNPsMk with average particle size of 20 nm displaying well dispersion throughout the solution. Pronounced antioxidant activities of AgNPsMk at increased concentrations observed which evidencing strong radical scavenging ability. Moreover, AgNPsMk exhibited strong antibacterial behavior when tested against bacterial strains of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis. Moving ahead, in vitro cytotoxicity work revealed potent cell viability loss appearing in AU565 and HeLa cancer cell lines on exposure to AgNPsMk at increased concentration. Finally, in vivo assessment carried out inside male Wistar rats indicated non toxic effect on examined liver tissues besides biochemical analysis including bilirubin, alkaline phosphtase (ALP) and serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT) which found within the normal range when compared with control. The prior research work profoundly apprises the potential of green synthesized AgNPsMk to play a significant role in biomedical applications and formulations.

  • The new semiconducting copolymers with 4,4-dialkyl-$4H$-cyclopenta[2,1-$b$:3,4-$b^{\prime}$]dithiophene and 2,2-dimethyl-$2H$-benzimidazole units were synthesized. The fused aromatic rings, such as cyclopentadithiophene (CPDT) unit, can make the polymer backbone more rigid and coplanar, which induces long conjugation length, narrow band gap, and strong intermolecular ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interaction. The stacking ability was controlled through attaching of linear or branched alkyl side chains. The spectra of PEHCPDTMBI and PHCPDTMBI in the solid films show absorption bands with maximum peaks at 401, 759 and 407, 768 nm, and the absorption onsets at 925 and 954 nm, corresponding to band gaps of 1.34 and 1.30 eV, respectively. The devices comprising PHCPDTMBI with $TiO_X$ showed a $V_{OC}$ of 0.39 V, a $J_{SC}$ of 1.14 $mA/cm^2$, and a $FF$ of 0.34, giving a power conversion efficiency of 0.15%. The PHCPDTMBI with linear alkyl chain on CPDT shows good solubility in organic solvent with higher PCE value than that of PEHCPDTMBI.

  • Synthetic methods of colloids have been significantly developed in industry due to their significant demand for preparation of functional particles. Recently, dynamic/static microfluidic system has emerged as a promising route to the synthesis of the particles, providing precise control of physical and chemical properties such as size, shape, porosity, surface roughness, and surface functionality. These formed particles can be potentially used in various applications including medical diagnostics, photonic device, and biological industry. In addition, these particles provide a novel route to create new materials via their directed self-assembly, and it enable to study and predict the natural phenomenon by mimicking of the nature. Therefore, we describe recent progress for functional colloid particles and its applications.

  • 9,10-Bis(bromomethyl)phenanthrene reacted with fullerenes via a Diels-Alder reaction to give phenanthrene-substituted fullerene mono-adducts (PCMA) and bis-adducts (PCBA) as electron acceptors for organic photovoltaic cells (OPVs). The syntheses of the fullerene derivatives were confirmed by $^1H$ $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopy and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. PCMA and PCBA showed better light absorption in the UV-visible region than $PC_{61}BM$. Their electrochemical properties were measured using cyclic voltammetry. Accordingly, the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels of PCMA and PCBA were -3.66 and -3.57 eV, respectively. Photovoltaic cells were fabricated with a ITO/PEDOT:PSS/poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT):acceptor/LiF/Al configuration, where P3HT and PCBA are the electron donors and acceptors, respectively. The polymer solar cell fabricated using the P3HT:PCBA active layer showed a maximum power conversion efficiency of 0.71%.

  • New liquid crystalline (biphenylcarbonyloxy)benzoates with an achiral swallow-tail derived from 3-alkoxy-2- (alkoxymethyl)-1-propanol [(ROCH2)2CHCH2OH, R = Me, Et, Pr, Bu] were prepared. These liquid crystals exhibited the phase sequence (I-SmA-SmCalt-(SmCX)-Cr) and showed antiferroelectric-like Smectic C phase (SmCalt) at temperature lower, and temperature range broader than do the compounds containing a branched alkyl group as a swallow-tail. The temperature ranges of antiferroelectric phase were found to be 30-90 oC and crystallization temperatures were 4-60 oC. The binary mixture of an achiral swallow-tailed liquid crystal and a chiral antiferroelectric liquid crystal, (S)-MHPOBC showed antiferroelectric smectic C phase at temperature much lower than the single chiral antiferroelectric liquid crystal does.

  • An approximate function approach has been developed using the subsystem synthesis method for real-time multibody vehicle dynamics models. In this approach, instead of solving loop closure constraint equations of the suspension linkage, approximate functions are used. The approximate function represents the functional relationship between dependent coordinates and independent coordinates of the suspension subsystem. This kinematic relationship is also included in the suspension subsystem equations of motion. Different order of polynomial functions are tried to find out the best candidate functions. The proposed method is also compared with the conventional subsystem synthesis method to verify its efficiency and accuracy.

  • We report a simple eco-friendly process for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using aqueous extract from Coffea Arabica fruit. The formation of AuNPs was confirmed using absorption spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy images. FT-IR analysis demonstrates the major functional groups present in Coffee Arabica fruit extract before and after synthesizing AuNPs. The Face Center Cubic (FCC) polycrystalline nature of these particles was identified by X-Ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Taking into account the contribution of the biomass surrounding the AuNPs, dynamic light scattering (DLS) results revealed an average particle size of ~59 nm.
