In this study the compressive strength data were collected from readymix concrete plants, and the analysis result showed that when using AD test the concrete of 24MPa is suitable than that of 21MPa for normal distribution. The prediction formula for average compressive strength were proposed to $f_{cu}=f_{ck}+4(MPa)$. When comparing the proposed equations and existing relationship, the estimation variations of elastic modulus and creep modulus were not significant. The proposed equation confirmed that there was no effect to the influence function for modulus of elasticity and creep. Therefore, it was concluded that the proposed equation could replace the exiting interaction formula.

Various types of nozzles have been used to cope with fire in ships. However, in Korea, precise nozzles that perform fine spraying function are required for fire fighting in case of fire in a ship, and most of these nozzles depend on imports. Therefore, in this study, we developed various types of nozzles to develop the water spray nozzle for evolving fire in the engine room of the ship, and developed an optimal nozzle through flow analysis and fire test. For this purpose, we selected the materials that can satisfy the characteristics of existing nozzle materials and developed the design technology and processing technology in the nozzle considering fluid flow to achieve optimal water spraying performance. In order to develop an optimal nozzle, the flow through the finite element analysis was first analyzed and the nozzle was manufactured. As a result of flow analysis of the developed nozzle, the maximum velocity at the outlets of four holes at 0.3 MPa was about 3m/s and about 0.15 MPa. In addition, when the pressure at the inlet was 1.8 MPa, it showed the outlet speed of about 18m/s and a pressure of 1.2 MPa.
For quality control and the economical design of grouted sand, the prior establishment of the unconfined compressive strength (UCS) estimating formula is very important. This study aims to develop an empirical UCS estimating formula for grouted sand based on the physical properties of sands and the UCS of cured pure grout. Four sands with varying particle sizes were grouted with both microfine cement and Ordinary Portland cement. Grouted specimens were prepared at three different relative densities and at three different water-to-cement ratios, and unconfined compression tests were performed. The results demonstrate that UCS of grouted sand can be expressed as the power function of the UCS of cured pure grout: $UCS_{grouted\;sand}/1MPa=A_{soil}{\cdot}(UCS_{pure}/1MPa)^N$. Because the exponent N strongly depends on the combination of pore area and pore size, N is expressed as the function of porosity (n) and specific surface ($S_a$). Additionally, because $S_a$ determines the area of the sand particle that cement particles can adsorb and n determines the number of cementation bondings between sand particles, $A_{soil}$ is also expressed as the function of n and $S_a$. Finally, the direct relationship between $A_{soil}$ and N is also investigated.
Fundamental characteristics of giant magnetostrictive alloy $Terfenol-D(Tb_{0.3}Dy_{0.7}Fe_{1.9~1.95})$ are rreasured and discussed on the application for actuators. The magnetostriction is measured by laser displacement rreasuring system and the applied compressive stress is measured by load cell. Magnetostrictions increased as the applied compressive stresses increased. When the stress is 7 MPa, the magnetostriction is 1000 ppm at 1500 Oe. As the stresses iocreased from 0 to 14 MPa, the magnetic fields for saturating the magnetostriction also increased. The temperature increased during the experiment is $0.3^{\circ}C$, so the thermal expansion is negligible in these experirrents. The feedback or temperature control function should be added for the precise position control actuator.
Alumina slurriers, having various amount of alumina and ratio of organic additives, were prepared for tape casting. The relative viscosities were compared to investigate influence of composition on stability of the slurry and plotted as a function of powder fraction. They raised with increasing powder fraction of slurries, revealing a exponential function curve, which means that stability of slurry was not affected by amount and composition of organic additives. Cast green tapes were tested under tensile condition at room temperature. The increase in alumina ratio and binder ratio was found to decrease strain to failure of green tapes from 363% to 45% and from 68% to 25%, respectively. Tensile strength of green tapes increased abruptly with increasing alumina ratio, which showed its maximum at 1 MPa. On other hand, Tensile strength increased continuously from 0.5 MPa to 4 MPa with increasing binder ratio. Mechanical properties of them were affected seriously and lost their properties by elevating temperature from 20$^{\circ}C$ to 80$^{\circ}C$.
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.
In order to develope the porous $K_2Ti_6O_13$ whisker preform with good strength, the pore characteristics and compressive strength were investigated as a function of spark plasma sintering temperature. As a result, high porous whisker preform were successfully fabricated by sintering at 900∼950${\circ}C$ for 10 min under a pressure of 40 MPa, heating rate of 50${\circ}C$/min and on-off pulse type of 12:2. The whisker preform prepared under above optimum condition showed relatively high compressive strength of 174∼266 MPa, despite of high porosity ranging from 15% to 37%. This improvement in strength was considered to be mainly due to the spark-plasma discharges and the self-heating action between whiskers. The compressive strength of whisker preform, fabricated at sintering temperature less than 900${\circ}C$, showed 80∼100 MPa. This is low strength level less than one half times compared with whisker preform fabricated at 900∼950${\circ}C$. The whisker preform fabricated at 1000${\circ}C$ showed the highest compressive strength of 523 MPa, but resulted in low porosity of ∼5%. Based on above results, it was considered that spark plasma sintering was an effective method for developing high strength and porosity of whisker preform.
A pile is a type of medium for constructing superstructures in weak geotechnical conditions. A pretensioned spun high-strength concrete (PHC) pile is composed of high-strength concrete with a specified strength greater than 80 MPa. Therefore, it has advantages in resistance to axial and bending moments and quality control and management since it is manufactured in a factory. However, the skin friction of a pile, which accounts for a large portion of the pile bearing capacity, is only approximated using empirical equations or standard penetration test (SPT) N-values. Particularly, there are some poor research results on the pile-soil interface under the seismic loads in Korea. Additionally, some studies do not consider geoenvironmental elements, such as groundwater pH values. This study performs sets of cyclic simple shear tests using submerged concrete specimens for 1 month to consider pH values of groundwater and clay specimens composed of kaolinite to generate a pile-soil interface. 0.2 and 0.4 MPa of normal stress conditions are considered in the case of pH values. The disturbed state concept is employed to express the dynamic behavior of the interface, and the disturbed function parameters are newly suggested. Consequently, the largest disturbance increase under basic conditions is observed, and an early approach to the failure under low normal stress conditions is presented. The disturbance function parameters are also suggested to express this disposition quantitatively.
The change in the open porosity of bulk graphite as a function of the uniaxial molding pressure during manufacturing is studied using artificial graphite powder. Subsequently, the graphite is impregnated to determine the effect of the open porosity on the impregnation efficiency and to improve the density of the final bulk graphite. Bulk graphite is manufactured with different uniaxial molding pressures after mixing graphite powder, which is the by-product of processing the final graphite products and phenolic resin. The bulk density and open porosity are measured using the Archimedes method. The bulk density and open porosity of bulk graphite increase as the molding pressure increases. The open porosity of molded bulk graphite is 25.35% at 30 MPa and 29.84% at 300 MPa. It is confirmed that the impregnation efficiency increases when the impregnation process is performed on a specimen with large open porosity. In this study, the bulk density of bulk graphite molded at 300 MPa is 11.06% higher than that before impregnation, which is the highest reported increase. Therefore, it is expected that the higher the uniaxial pressure, the higher the density of bulk graphite.

This study was carried out to establish a proper cultivation site and to diagnose the drought tolerance of Oplopanax elatus leaves by using pressure-volume curves. As a result of analysing data measured, the leaf of Oplopanax elatus showed the osmotic pressure at full turgor(Ψosat) was -0.77 MPa, and the osmotic pressure at incipient plasmolysis(Ψotlp) was -0.90 MPa. Then, the value of maximum bulk modulus of elasticity Emax was 3.7 MPa, showing that slightly lower drought tolerance of Oplopanax elatus. Furthermore, the values of relative water contents RWCtlp and RWC* were above 80%, showing that the function of osmoregulation is somewhat better. Thus, responses to water relations such as Ψosat, Ψotlp, Emax, RWCtlp and RWC* of Oplopanax elatus showed relatively lower drought-tolerance property indicating that those growth are appropriate in high moisture soil sites.
