  • We give a series of discrete random variables which converges to a random variable whose distribution function is the Riesz-N$\acute{a}$gy-Tak$\acute{a}$cs (RNT) distribution. We show this using the correspondence theorem that if the moments coincide then their corresponding distribution functions also coincide.

  • A new bivariate linear failure rate distribution is introduced through a shock model. It is proved that the marginal distributions of this new bivariate distribution are linear failure rate distributions. The joint moment generating function of the bivariate distribution is derived. Mixtures of bivariate linear failure rate distributions are also discussed. Application to a real data is given.

  • In this paper we introduced a new score generating function for the rank dispersion function in a multiple linear model. Based on the new score function, we derived the asymptotic relative efficiency, ARE(11, rs), of our score function with respect to the Wilcoxon scores for the generalized F distributions which show very flexible distributions with a variety of shape and tail behaviors. We thoroughly explored the selection of r and s of our new score function that provides improvement over the Wilcoxon scores.

Review of Classification Models for Reliability Distributions from the Perspective of Practical Implementation (실무적 적용 관점에서 신뢰성 분포의 유형화 모형의 고찰)

  • The study interprets each of three classification models based on Bath-Tub Failure Rate (BTFR), Extreme Value Distribution (EVD) and Conjugate Bayesian Distribution (CBD). The classification model based on BTFR is analyzed by three failure patterns of decreasing, constant, or increasing which utilize systematic management strategies for reliability of time. Distribution model based on BTFR is identified using individual factors for each of three corresponding cases. First, in case of using shape parameter, the distribution based on BTFR is analyzed with a factor of component or part number. In case of using scale parameter, the distribution model based on BTFR is analyzed with a factor of time precision. Meanwhile, in case of using location parameter, the distribution model based on BTFR is analyzed with a factor of guarantee time. The classification model based on EVD is assorted into long-tailed distribution, medium-tailed distribution, and short-tailed distribution by the length of right-tail in distribution, and depended on asymptotic reliability property which signifies skewness and kurtosis of distribution curve. Furthermore, the classification model based on CBD is relied upon conjugate distribution relations between prior function, likelihood function and posterior function for dimension reduction and easy tractability under the occasion of Bayesian posterior updating.

Indirect estimation of the reflection distribution function of the scattering dot patterns on a light guide plate for edge-lit LED backlight applications

  • The angular distribution of the luminance on each optical component of 40-inch light-emitting diode backlight was measured and studied, using the optical-simulation method. Several scattering functions were investigated as the reflection distribution function of the scattering dots printed on the bottom surface of the light guide plate (LGP). It was found that both the diffuse Lambertian and near-specular Gaussian scattering functions were necessary for the successful reproduction of the experimental angular distribution of the luminance. The optimization of the scattering parameters included in these scattering functions led to almost the same luminance distribution as that obtained from the experiment. This approach may be an effective way of indirectly estimating the reflection distribution function of the scattering dots of the LGP, which cannot be made accessible through any other experimental method.

A Method to Reduce the Cross-Talk of Wigner-Ville Distribution;Rotating Window (위그너-빌 분포함수에서의 혼신성분 저감 방법 - 회전 창문함수)

  • Wigner-Ville distribution has been recognized as a useful tool and applied to various types of mechanical noise and vibration signals, but its limitation which mainly comes from the cross-talk has not been well addressed. The cross-talk takes place for a signal with multiple components, simply because the Wigner-Ville distribution is a bilinear transform. The cross-talk often causes a negative value in the distribution. This cannot be accepted for the Wigner- Ville distribution, because it is an expression of power. Smoothing the Wigner-Ville distribution by convoluting it wih a window, is most commonly used to reduce the cross-talk. There can be infinite number of distributions depending on the windows. In this paper, we attempted to develop a distribution which is the best or the optimal in reducing the cross-talk. This could be possible by employing the ambiguity function. For a general signal, however it is difficult to express the ambiguity function as a mathematically closed form. This requires an appropriate modeling to make such expression possible. We approximated the Wigner-Ville distribution as a sum of linear segments. In the ambiguity function domain, the legitimate components are reflected as linear lines passing through the origin. Every lines has its own length and slope. But, the cross-talk is widely distributed in the ambiguity function plane. Based on this realization, we proposed a two-dimensional window which is in fact 'rotating window', that can eliminate cross-talk component. The rotating window is examined numerically and is found to have a better performance in reducing the cross-talk than conventional windows, the Gaussian window.

A Study on the measurement of Electron Energy Distribution Function in Ar plasma measured by the waveforms of Langmuir probe voltages (Langmuir 프로브 전압의 파형에 따른 아르곤 플라즈마의 전자에너지 분포함수 측정에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we have obtained the Electron Energy Distribution Function(EEDF) in plasma by using two differentiators and investigated the EEDFs by sawtooth and triangle waveform voltages with the working pressures and the positions of single probe. It is found that as the working pressure is decreased, the EEDFs approach to theMaxwellian distribution independent of the waveforms of probe voltage. On the otherhand, as the position of probe is moved from the center of the plasma to its edge, the EEDF of sawtooth waveform probe voltage approaches to the Maxwellian distribution, but the EEDF of triangle waveform probe voltage deviates from the Maxwellian distribution.

  • Applications of thresholding technique are based on the assumption that object and background pixels in a digital image can be distinguished by their gray level values. For the segmentation of more complex images, it is necessary to resort to multiple threshold selection techniques. This paper describes a new method for multiple threshold selection of gray level images which are not clearly distinguishable from the background. The proposed method consists of three main stages. In the first stage, a probability distribution function for a gray level histogram of an image is derived. Cluster points are defined according to the probability distribution function. In the second stage, fuzzy partition matrix of the probability distribution function is generated through the fuzzy clustering process. Finally, elements of the fuzzy partition matrix are classified as clusters according to gray level values by using max-membership method. Boundary values of classified clusters are selected as multiple threshold. In order to verify the performance of the developed algorithm, automatic inspection process of ball grid array is presented.

Analysis of Electron Swarm Diffusion Coefficients and Energy Distribution Function in $e^-$-$CF_4$ Scattering ($e^-$-$CF_4$산란중에서 전자군의 확산계수 및 에너지분포함수 연구)

  • In this paper, the behavior of electron swarm parameters and energy distribution function of the discharge under high E/N condition in e$^{-10}$ -CF$_{4}$ gas have been analysed over the E/N range from 1-300(Td) by the MCS and BEq methods using set of electron collision cross section determined by the authors. The swarm parameters and energy distribution function have been calculated for the pulsed Townsend, steady-state Townsend and Time of Flight methods. The results gained that the value of electron swarm parameters such as the electron drift velocity, the electron ionization and attachment coefficients and longitudinal diffusion coefficients in agreement with the experimental and theoretical data for a range of E/N. The electron energy distribution function has been explained and analysed in e$^{-10}$ -CF$_{4}$ at E/N : 5, 10, 100, 200, 300(Td) for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy and respective set of electron collision cross sections. The validity of the results has been confirmed by TOF and SST methods.
