  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the eroticism of the exposed body and clothing style of Chinese foreign students in Korea and to provide basic information required to design and develop a niche market for the Chinese. A Chinese professor translated 52 questions, which formed a preliminary survey given to 30 Chinese students. Following this preliminary survey, some questions were then revised. The surveys were conducted during 3 weeks starting from the 5th of October. Only 289 of 330 questionnaires were selected for statistical analysis. Data were analyzed statistically through Frequency analysis, Chi-square test, T-test, and Regression analyses in SPSS 12.0. The results of this study were as follows. First, we should consider men's breast, back, and neck line in order to develop the design of men's clothes, and the leg and collarbones for women's clothing. Second, it was suggested that we pay attention to the following articles of clothing to expand the erotic market for Chinese women's clothes: mini-skirts, side slit skirts, and tight-skirts for bottoms; blouses or T-shirts with a neckline scooped out deeply for tops; and see-through one-piece dresses with deeply scooped out backs.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of cultural competence on nursing professionalism among nursing students in South Korea. Methods: A sample of 218 nursing students in three universities answered a self-report questionnaire. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Pearson's correlation analyses, and hierarchical multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in cultural competence depending on the use of foreign language, having foreign friends, frequency of interaction with foreigners, multi-cultural education experiences, and level of demand for multicultural education. There were significant differences in nursing professionalism depending on grade level, satisfaction with major choice, college life satisfaction, and foreign language learning experience. There was a significant positive correlation between cultural competence and nursing professionalism. Lastly, significant predictors of nursing professionalism included satisfaction with major choice (${\beta}=.22$, p=.004), cultural awareness (${\beta}=.22$, p=.007) and cultural experience (${\beta}=.17$, p=.026). The regression model explained 20.2% of nursing professionalism. Conclusion: In order to establish desirable nursing professionalism, strategies for enhancing cultural awareness and cultural experiences in nursing education courses are needed both inside and outside the curriculum.

  • The totality of language learning comprises three integrated components: linguistic, cultural, and attitudinal (Wilkes, 1983).Positively sensitizing students to cultural phenomena is urgent and crucial. A positive attitude toward L2 culture is a factor in language learning that leads to cross cultural understanding. This research examined, through a survey analysis, how three groups of students (one high school group and two university student groups) viewed the role of their foreign culture (i.e., American and British cultures) in achieving cultural understanding. The focus was upon how EFL learners approach the target language culture as well as their own culture.

  • In this study, we analyzed the longitudinal effect of participation in an overseas exchange student program on foreign language competence, intercultural competence, and personal development. Data were collected over three time points from the pre-, post-, and post-post tests with Korean college students who participated in an overseas exchange program. Hierarchical linear model was conducted to examine whether the change of participation effects exists over time and which predictors affected outcomes. The results of unconditional growth model showed that foreign language competence, cultural competence, and personal development showed statistically significant differences in their initial status prior to departure to participate in an overseas program as well as their growth rate. The results of conditional growth model showed that parents' level of education and overseas experiences before college affected the initial status of foreign language competence, and gender and overseas experience before college affected those of cultural competence as well as personal development. In case of growth rate, overseas experience before college and destination country/region affected foreign language competence, and interactions between Korean participating students and local students affected cultural competence. For personal development, only overseas experiences before college affected its growth rate. Lastly, relevant discussion and implications were provided.

  • This study explores the online learning experiences of Chinese foreign students in Korea by using the CQR process and method. To gather data, researchers conducted online, in-depth interviews with 15 Chinese university students in Korea who were enrolled in the spring and fall semesters in 2020. After compiling the research, the data were segmented into four domains and 13 categories, with 36 subcategories identified from among foreign students' online learning experiences. The results show that Chinese students perceived the convenience of online classes and personalized learning as its strength, but considered lowered motivation and lack of concentration as weaknesses. Also, they experienced an increase in the amount of learning, spending more time studying online, using personal learning strategies, and getting help from friends and the university's online learning system. Moreover, they experienced difficulties related to class notifications, guidance, and interactions with the instructors. Foreign students studying in Korea need their instructor's facilitation in order to understand and participate in online classes, reinforcing a student's self-directed learning ability, and need appropriate guidance and support in terms of the online class environment.

  • Wood biomass including forest residues, waste wood, and construction residuals has been widely generated in Korea, but forest biomass from the National Forest Management Operation Project plays a big role in generating wood biomass. Unfortunately the promotion policy of woody energy organized by the Forest Service in Korea concentrates more on demand creation rather than on supply expansion. Therefore, in order to utilize insufficient wood resources effectively, it is greatly required to develop uses for maximizing their added value. In particular, more attention to the use of the second generation biomass has been paid in foreign countries because there is a threshold that the first generation biomass cannot produce enough biofuel without threatening food supplies and biodiversity. In Korea, wood pellets are regarded as the alternative clean fuels to oils and coals that emit green house gases into the atmosphere. However, using wood as pellet raw materials can not be an economic way because the value of wood disappears right after burning in the boiler in spite of its contribution to the decrease of carbon emission. Differently from wood pellets, kraft pulping process using woody biomass produces black liquor as a by-product which can be used to generate electricity, bioenergy and biochemicals through gasification. Thus, it can be more economical to make a torrefaction of lignocellulosic biomass such as low-quality wood and agricultural leftovers as raw materials of pellets.

  • The purposes of this study were to develop the student activity-centered science textbook model in high school and explore the field application possibility. For development of student activity-centered science textbook model, we conducted a literature survey about foreign science textbook and science curriculum and we developed the textbook development framework based on 7E learning model. Based on framework, we developed student activity-centered science textbook model about achievement standards 'systems and interaction - earth systems'. A development model is the total amount of five class periods and the various objectives were reflected in pursuit systems thinking & STEAM. 1~4 class periods, learning content composed of student activity-centered exploration activities that organically associated to make final products. Fifth class period was presented to explore job and career. A development model was applied to high school class for one time study. Applying the result of field study, students were responded positively in interested about science class, textbook contents, made final product. Through this study, if science textbook was made on the basis of the revised student activity-centered science textbook model, students were lead to positive change in science class.

  • The objective of this study is to verify the relationship between the factors involved in the education program to support foreign students to adapt to Korean society and their ego-resilience and social adaptation. The survey was conducted on students attending universities and graduate schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province, and the analysis was conducted using the SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 25.0 statistical program. The main results are as follows. First, the participation frequency, class satisfaction and teacher satisfaction among the factors involved in education programs to support foreign students were found to have a significant effect on ego-resilience. Second, the ego-resilience of foreign students is found to have a significant effect on Korean society adaptation. Third, among the factors involved in education programs to support foreign students, only the participation period factors have a significant effect on social adaptation. Fourth, there was a mediating effect of ego-resilience in the relationship between participation factors and social adaptation of foreign students. This means that the frequency of participation in education programs, satisfaction in class, and teacher satisfaction were found to have a positive effect on adaptation to Korean society through the ego-resilience.
