The aim of this study analyzed changes in dietary habits and lifestyles before and after COVID-19 targeting adolescents, using the food consumption behavior survey (2019 vs 2021). In the change in health-related factors, height decreased overall, and a significant difference was especially evident in males. Awareness that functional foods and eco-friendly foods contribute to health has increased. Among the results of dietary behavior, the frequency of skipping breakfast showed that the rate of not skipping breakfast and the rate of skipping breakfast more than 5 times increased at the same time(p=0.019). The rate of eating out decreased significantly after COVID-19, and it was analyzed that schools and school cafeteria, as well as Street carts or restaurants and academy, all increased significantly as places where snacks were not consumed. In order to analyze changes in food-related lifestyle, it was grouped into convenience-seeking, quality/safety-seeking, taste-seeking, and health/safety-seeking. 'Small packaged or pre-processed products' decreased. On the other hand, items such as 'Safety rather than price when choosing food' and 'Don't eat food that could go bad' improved. 'Tend to eat regularly' was higher than 2021 compared to 2019. Also 'Tend to purchase HACCP and GAP-certified products' are increased. Because of COVID-19 changes in lifestyle have affected the diet of adolescents. The results of this study suggest that it can be used as a guideline establishment and nutrition counseling material for the formation of correct eating habits for adolescents in the future pandemic era.
The purpose of this study was to investigate dining-out behavior at ethnic restaurants and its relationship with ethnic restaurant satisfaction based on the food-related lifestyle (FRL) of undergraduate students. A total 306 of questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS ver. 12.0 package. The data were analysed using frequency, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis. According to the results of factor analysis, the FRL of undergraduate students categorized into health factor, taste factor, convenience factor and ethnic restaurant satisfaction was influenced by four elements: service & hygiene, food quality & convenience, atmosphere & image and unique culture. In addition, visiting frequency and visiting motivation of all dining-out behaviors at ethnic restaurants were significantly different and the FRL groups had differences in the influence of food quality & convenience, atmosphere & image and unique culture. Futhermore, the health factor of FRL was influenced by all elements of ethnic restaurant satisfaction. The findings indicate that ethnic restaurant owners should provide food with healthy ingredients in addition to unique culture and atmosphere to customers.
This study was conducted to identify adults' knowledge, attitude, dietary behavior, and lifestyle for cancer prevention, and to examine the relation between these variables. The participants were 414 adults in the Jeonbuk area. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficients, ANOVA and Duncan test with SPSS v. 12.0. The score for participants' knowledge about cancer was 23.98 points of a possible 30, the score for attitude towards cancer was 44.46 points of a possible 55, the score for preventive dietary behavior for cancer was 36.79 points of a possible 55, and their score for preventive lifestyle for cancer was 29.76 points of a possible 40. The knowledge, attitude towards cancer, dietary behavior, and lifestyle for cancer prevention showed significant differences according to the general characteristics (e.g., age, religion, monthly income, educational level, job, health condition, and interests). There was a significant positive correlation between knowledge about cancer, attitude towards cancer, dietary behavior, and lifestyle for cancer prevention. Dietary behavior for cancer prevention showed a positive correlation with lifestyle for cancer prevention. In conclusion, it is necessary to consider the related factors for the development and implementation of systematic education programs that can encourage and promote preventive health behavior for cancer among adults.
In order to maximize customer satisfaction and provide differentiated customer-oriented marketing strategies, it is important to understand the essence of consumer behavior and characteristics of their market segmentation. Therefore, this study explored the relationships among five different food-related lifestyle (i.e., health, fashion, taste, economy and safety oriented), positive emotion, and satisfaction. An analysis of 338 samples drawn from college students who visited coffeehouse at least once in the previous months was performed. The results revealed that, taste, economy, and safety oriented lifestyle significantly affected positive emotion, and positive emotion significantly affected satisfaction. The findings highlight the significant role of coffeehouse customer food-related lifestyle toward positive emotion in the formation of satisfaction, and therefore generate theoretical and practical implications for the coffeehouse industry.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: The increased consumers' interests in health and food safety have increased the demand for organic foods. Many studies have been performed on consumers' purchase intentions for organic foods and their influencing factors, and various studies have shown that the prices of organic foods and the consumers' willingness to pay are important influencing factors. This study examined the payment value of organic foods and agrifood consumer competency index according to the food-related lifestyles in South Korean consumers. SUBJECTS/METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis was performed using the 2019 Consumer Behavior Survey for Food. A total of 6,176 participants aged 19 to 74 years (male: 2,783, female: 3,393) were included in the analysis. RESULTS: Three factors were extracted by factor analysis (rational consumption-seeking type, convenience-seeking type, and health, and safety-seeking type) to explain the consumers' food-related lifestyles. The results of cluster analysis suggested that consumers were classified into 3 food-related lifestyles as the 'exploratory consumers' (n = 2,485), 'safety-seeking consumers' (n = 1,544), and 'passive consumers' (n = 2,147). Exploratory consumers showed a significantly higher willingness to pay for imported organic foods (P < 0.05). Safety-seeking consumers had a significantly higher willingness to pay for domestic organic foods (P < 0.05). For the agrifood consumer competency index, exploratory consumers had the highest score, followed in order by safety-seeking consumers and passive consumers. CONCLUSIONS: These results provide basic data in understanding consumption tendency for organic foods and agrifoods based on food-related lifestyles of South Korean consumers.
The purpose of this study is to find factors which induce a purchase experience of natural seasonings. The findings and implications of the research can be summarized as follows. First, there is a significant difference in purchase experience of natural seasonings based on gender, a academic background, dining out frequency, and amount of food consumption. Second, knowledge of safety regulations on MSG has a negative effect on purchase experience of natural seasonings. Third, the results shows a positive effect of attitude to food safety on purchase experience of natural seasonings. Fourth, food-explore or health-oriented types regarding food-related lifestyle has positive effects on purchase experience of natural seasonings. These results will contribute by helping the food and restaurant industry develop efficient marketing strategies.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the frequency and contents of each 'Yangseng(養生)' category appeared in 『The Annals of Joseon Dynasty』, based on the Yangseng-related terms used in the records. Method : We selected 11 terms with the same meaning as 'Yangseng(養生)' and searched each of them on the website of the Annals of Joseon Dynasty online search service. Among the total of 679 records, 343 were classified into five categories: 'Mind Yangseng(精神養生)', 'Food Yangseng(飮食養生)', 'Doin-angyo(導引按蹻)', 'Lifestyle Yangseng(生活養生)', and 'Herb Yangseng(藥草養生)'. The contents and characteristics of each Yangseng category appeared in the 『The Annals of Joseon Dynasty』 were studied. Results : The term 'Jo-seop(調攝)' was most frequently used in the same meaning as Yangseng(養生), followed by 'Jo-ri(調理)', 'Jo-ho(調護)', 'Jo-yang(調養)', and 'Seop-yang(攝養)'. The frequency of records categorized into specific Yangseng methods(養生法) was in the order of 'Lifestyle Yangseng', 'Mind Yangseng', 'Food Yangseng', 'Herb Yangseng' and 'Doin-angyo(導引按蹻)'. The contents of 'Mind Yangseng' included 'control of emotions and thoughts', 'control of self-interest', 'emphasis on the cultivation of mind', and 'avoidance of stress'. The contents of 'Food Yangseng' were related to the amount of food intake and types of food. The contents of 'Lifestyle Yangseng' were related to 'work-rest balance(勞逸)', 'seasons(季節)', 'residence(居處)', 'bath(沐浴)', 'sexual life', 'sleep', and 'clothing'. The frequency of 'work-rest balance(勞逸)' was among the highest. Conclusion : Emphasis on mental health and work-rest balance appeared in 『The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty』 can have significant implications on people of today.
In this study, the fast-growing market in the Food Service Industry Study of the delivery service. The first objective of this study is to classify consumers food-related lifestyle and the second is the dimension of the delivery service quality will derive. According to the consumer's food-related life style, make about the consumer's delivery service quality perception and satisfaction to evaluate the differences. Food-related lifestyle 'health seeking type', 'fashion pursuit type', 'type taste pursue', 'seek safety-type', 'seek convenience-type' was separated, cluster analysis 'taste pursuit group', 'high-interest in foods group', 'seek convenience-group' were classified. Delivery service quality 'food quality', 'economic', 'ease of ordering', 'employee quality', 'sanitation', 'order quality' and were classified into six. That of 'food quality' and 'economic' factor were significantly different from the consumer group, but also the 'order quality', 'food quality', 'sanitation' and the order of the large degree of influence on satisfaction, respectively.
Purpose: This study focused on identifying the interaction effects of genetic and lifestyle-environmental factors on the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). Methods: Study subjects were selected from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES) from 2001 to 2014. Data on genetic variations, anthropometric measurements, biochemical data, and seven lifestyle factors (diet, physical activity, alcohol drinking, smoking, sleep, depression, and stress) were obtained from 4,836 Koreans aged between 40 and 59 years, including those with T2D at baseline (n = 1,209), newly developed T2D (n= 1,298) and verified controls (n = 3,538). The genetic risk score (GRS) was calculated by using 11 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) related to T2D development and the second quartile was used as the reference category. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to evaluate the associations of GRS and lifestyle factors with T2D risk, controlling for covariates. Results: Multivariate regression analysis revealed that GRS was the strongest risk factor for T2D, and body mass index (BMI), smoking, drinking, and spicy food preference also increased the risk. Lifestyle/environmental factors that showed significant interactions with GRS were BMI, current smoking, current drinking, fatty food preference, and spicy food preference. Conclusions: Interactions between genetic factors and lifestyle/environmental factors were associated with an increased risk of T2D. The results will be useful to provide a new perspective on genetic profiling for the earlier detection of T2D risk and clues for personalized interventions, which might be more effective prevention strategies or therapies in individuals with a genetic predisposition to T2D.
This study investigated the effect of a health-related lifestyle on knowledge, attitude, control belief and behavior intention toward breast-feeding of male and female university students in order to develop a breast-feeding education program for students of childbearing age. The subjects were 445 university students (125 male and 325 female) residing in eight provinces in Korea. The overall percentage of subjects intending to breast-feed their baby was 80.7% (73.6% of males and 84.2% of females). Overall, 84.2% of the subjects had high concerns about their health status. Scores reflecting a positive attitude, knowledge, and control beliefs toward breast-feeding were significantly higher (p<0.05~p<0.001) in female students, students majoring in medicine, and higher grades. The students who scored high at attitude, knowledge, and control beliefs also had a significantly higher (p<0.001) intention to breast-feed. When we investigated the sub factors of attitudes toward breast-feeding, significantly more students taking nutrient supplements scored high for physiological factors (p<0.05) and health-related factors (p<0.01). Significantly more non-smoking and non-drinking students scored high for health-related factors (p<0.001) and physiological factors (p<0.001), respectively. The intention to breast-feed was found to be significantly higher (p<0.01) in students who did not smoke, but not with other health-related lifestyles. In summary, these results indicate that the majority of university students intend to breast-feed, with students having a positive attitude, higher knowledge, and stronger control beliefs having a higher intention to breast-feed. Although a student's health-related lifestyle affects their attitudes on the physiological and health-related aspects of breast-feeding, only smoking status had an observable connection on the intention to breast-feed. Thus, when developing breast-feeding education programs for students, we recommend efforts to enhance a favorable attitude, knowledge, and control beliefs toward breast-feeding.
