국내 주요 농산물의 푸드마일리지와 이산화탄소 배출량 분석 (An Analysis of Food Miles and CO2 Emission of Major Agricultural Products)

  • Global warming caused by greenhouse gases is threatening our ecosystem. Moreover, our food system is in severe danger. Recently the local food system is emerging as an alternative food network, decreasing food miles and carbon dioxide emissions, protecting the safety of our foods, and helping local economy. However, carbon labelling for agricultural products has not been introduced yet in Korea. Accordingly, research on food miles and carbon labelling for agricultural products should be urgently conducted. The study compared the food miles and the carbon dioxide emission of major agricultural products. In addition, the food mileages of garlic and carrot are compared between Korea and China. The results show that radish has the highest carbon dioxide emission, and followed by onion and cabbage. These products are produced from Jeju island and have a high Shipment volume. Although Chinese Garlic and radish have lower shipping volume and food miles than Koreans, they have higher carbon dioxide emissions due to ship transportation. Based on these results some valuable implications can be identified. Current food distribution system, which heavily focuses on the Metropolitan area, should be changed into a local system, in which foods are consumed in the local area first then transported to other area.

  • Increase in greenhouse gas emissions during the last century has led to remarkable changes in our environment and climate system. Many policy measures have been developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the world, many of which require our lifestyle changes from energy-intensive to energy-saving. One of the changes in our living patterns is to consider food miles. A food mile is the distance food travels from where it is produced to where it is consumed. Providing information of food miles will help people choose low mileage food, helping promote a "green consumption" action and lead to a low carbon society with emission reduction systems. In this study, 10 items are selected from 23 Harmonized commodity description and 2-digit coding system (HS) to estimate their food miles, and $CO_2$ emissions released in the transportation of imported food. For the estimation, four countries are chosen-Korea, Japan, United Kingdom (UK) and France, with Korea and Japan's 2001, 2003, and 2007 trade statistics and UK and France's 2003 and 2007 trade statistics used. As a result, Korea showed in 2007 the highest level of food miles and $CO_2$ emissions per capita among 4 countries. That suggests that Korea should make an effort to purchase local food to reduce food miles and use low-carbon vehicles for food transport, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

푸드마일을 고려한 주요수입곡물의 운송단계별 환경영향 및 저감방안 분석 (Analysis of Environmental Impacts and Alternative Scenarios of Transportation Stages on Food Miles for Major Imported Crops)

  • Transportation and storage technologies, which are key drivers for trade, has increased global trade of agricultural products about 165% from 1995 to 2015. Korea imports 76.2% of grain from major food exporters such as USA, Australia, Brazil, and China. The expected long shipping distances from these countries can seriously cause environmental impacts on various environmental categories such as climate change, particulate matter, and acidification. The goal of this study is to assess the environmental implications focused on greenhouse gases (GHGs) and particulate matters (PMs) emissions of imported grains (wheat, corn, and bean) using food miles analysis and life cycle assessment (LCA). The environmental impacts of imported crops are estimated by transportation modes using the national LCI database provided by Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI). The results of this study are as follows; (1) Imported wheat comes from USA (29%), AUS (27%), and URK (20%), corn is imported from USA (34%), BRA (29%), and URK (16%), and bean comes from BRA (57%), USA (40%), and CHN (2%); (2) the food miles of imported crops (wheat, corn, and bean) are 3.62E+10, 1.30E+11, and $2.20E+10ton{\cdot}km$, respectively; (3) the potential GHGs and PMs of wheat, corn, and bean are 5.02E+08, 1.67E+09, and 2.84E+08 kg $CO_2e$ and 5.89E+05, 1.83E+06, 3.07E+05 kg $PM_{10}e$, respectively. The outputs of this study could provide environmental impacts and carrying distances of imported agricultural products for preparing a plan to reduce environmental impacts.

우리나라 로컬푸드 원칙의 인식구조와 준수실태 (The perception and compliance of local food principles in Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 최근 사회적으로 큰 흐름으로 자리잡고 있는 로컬푸드 원칙에 대한 인식도와 준수도를 실증적으로 규명하는 것이다. 본 연구의 주요내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 로컬푸드 인식도에서는 신뢰관계, 지역생산 지역소비가 가장 중요한 요인으로 나타났고, 상대적으로 친환경성의 중요도는 낮게 나타났다. 이는 종사자와 전문가에서 통계적 차이를 나타내지 않는다. 따라서 로컬푸드 개념에서는 공간적 측면과 사회적 측면의 구성요소가 모두 중요하다. 둘째, 로컬푸드 준수도에서는 신뢰관계와 유통단계의 축소는 비교적 잘 지켜지는 반면, 친환경성과 이동거리는 상대적으로 잘 지켜지지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 준수도의 경우 종사자와 전문가의 인식차이는 이동거리 축소에서만 나타나지 않고, 그 외 4개 요소에는 통계적 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 로컬푸드의 인식도와 준수도의 차이를 살펴보면, 친환경성과 신뢰관계, 그리고 유통단계 축소 등의 사회적 측면은 인식도와 준수도의 차이가 크지 않는 반면, 공간적 측면의 이동거리 축소와 지역생산 지역소비는 인식도와 준수도의 차이가 상대적으로 큰 것으로 나타났다.

  • This work is a report about the first record of alcid species, Thick-billed Murre (Uria lomvia) in Korea. Four individuals of Thick-billed Murre captured by crab net were obtained in Deajin Port and near the Munam Port. three individuals of Thick-billed Murre searching food were observed at an area two miles away from Munam-Port. We describe characters of Thick-billed Murre with illustrations.

  • 방사성핵종의 대기방출로 인한 인근주민의 연간 집단선량을 대기확산모델과 USNRC에서 제안된 지상먹이연쇄모델을 결부시켜 AIRDOS-EPA전산코드를 사용하여 평가하였다. 평가결과는 전신의 경우, $3.348{\times}10^{-1}manrem$으로 GASPAR전산코드에 의해 계산된 값과 다소 차이가 있었으나 갑상선의 경우, 84.95manrem으로 아주 낮게 평가되었다.

  • 인간 활동에 의해 증가된 온실가스로 인하여 지구촌 곳곳에서 기상이변이 속출하고 있으며, 세계적으로 온실가스 배출 감축을 위한 노력을 하고 있다. 여기에 발맞추어 우리나라 또한 녹색성장을 기조로 한 저탄소 사회 실현을 위한 노력을 하고 있으며, 이를 위해서는 녹색생활을 통한 저탄소 소비 패턴 정착이 필요하다. 이에 국민들에게 저탄소 생활로의 변화를 통해 저감되는 온실가스 배출량 정보 제공이 요구되는 바, 본 연구에서는 국내에서 소비되는 식품들 중 수입의 비중이 높은 쇠고기와 포도주를 대상으로 하여 국내외산 쇠고기와 포도주의 푸드 마일리지 및 이산화탄소 배출량을 산정하였고, 수입산과 국내산의 이산화탄소 배출량 산정 결과를 이용하여 수입산을 국내산으로 대체할 경우에 저감 가능한 이산화탄소 배출량을 평가하였다. '07년 기준으로 수입 쇠고기 10%를 국내산으로 대체하면 연간 14,000톤 만큼의 이산화탄소 감축이 가능하며, 일 년 중 하루를 수입 쇠고기 대신 국내산으로 대체했을 때에는 연간 384톤 만큼 감축이 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 같은 방법으로 수입 포도주 10%를 국내산으로 대체하면 연간 1,396톤이 감축되고, 일 년 중 하루를 수입 포도주 대신 국내산으로 대체했을 때에는 연간 38톤의 감축이 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 푸드 마일리지와 같은 정량적 지표를 사용하여 국내산 식품의 수요를 유도함으로써 국민들의 실생활 속에서 자연스럽게 저탄소 생활로의 소비 패턴이 이루어질 수 있을 것이며, 앞으로도 이러한 정량적인 이산화탄소 배출량 DB의 개발과 보급이 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

도로연장에 대한 반등효과 분석 -서울, 부산, 대구, 인천을 중심으로- (Analysis of Rebound Effect from Road Extension in Seoul, Busan, Daegue, and Incheon)

  • 본 연구는 2000~2013년까지 14년간 서울, 부산, 대구, 인천 4개 대도시에 대한 총 주행거리, 도로연장길이, 대중교통 이용객수, 지역내총생산, 지역인구, 석유류 소비량에 대한 횡단시계열자료를 활용하여 도로연장에 대한 반등효과가 우리나라에도 적용되는지를 실증분석하였다. 혼합효과모형으로 추정한 결과 도로연장은 총 주행거리와 동반상승관계에 있는 반면, 대중교통 이용량은 총 주행거리와 역관계에 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 도로연장을 중심으로 하는 공급관리형 교통정책이 도시 광역화로 자가운전의 편의성을 직접적으로 증진시키거나, "걷기 힘든" 환경조성을 통해 자가운전 외 교통수단 이용의 편의성을 절감시킴으로써 추가적인 도로이용을 유인함을 뜻한다. 즉, 교통혼잡 및 정체 개선을 위해서는 현재의 도로연장 중심의 정책보다는 대중교통의 편의성 증진을 골자로 하는 교통수요관리 정책에 맞추어야 함을 시사한다.

신해양질서 10년후 세계어업자원 이용동향 (The Exploitation of World Fishery Resources for 10 Years under the New Regime in the Sea)

  • In this paper, state of exploitation of world fishery resources after 10 years under the new regime in the sea, called the era of exclusive economic zone (EEZ) expending up to a 200 nautical miles from coastal line, was reviewed to determine effect from establishing EEZ in the world fishery production and its export/import volume based on the fishery statistics annually published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of United Nation. The world total production from marine living resources had a trend showing a waned increase during 1970's when most of coastal states were translated into the reality of EEZ. From mid-1980's onwards, it increased rapidly, reaching about 85 million tons . Such increase in production was basically from the Pacific Ocean, accounting for more than 60% of the world total production. Fishing areas where showed increase in the production after the new regime in the sea were the southwestern Atlantic (FAO area 41) , the eastern Indian (FAO area 57) and the whole fishing areas in the Pacific except the eastern central Pacific (FAO area 77). Increase in the production from distant-water fishing countries came from the regions of the southwest Atlantic (FAO area 41) and the southwest Pacific (FAO area 81) . The production from coastal states was up from the regions of the eastern Indian (FAO area 57) , the northwest and northeast Pacific (FAO areas 61 and 67) and the southeast Pacific (FAO area 87) . It was likely that the exploitation of the fishable stocks was well monitored in the areas of the northwest Atlantic (FAO area 21) , the eastern central Atlantic (FAO area 34) and the northeast Pacific (FAO area 67) through appropriate management measures such as annual harvest level, establishment of total allowable catch etc. The marine fisheries resources that have made contribution to the world production, despite expansion of 200 EEZ by coastal states, were sardinellas, Atlantic cod, blue whiting and squids in the Atlantic Ocean : tunas which mainly include skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna, croakers and pony fishes in the Indian Ocean : and sardine, Chilean pilchard, Alaska pollock, tunas (skipjack and yellowfin tuna) , blue grenadier and blue whiting including anchoveta in the Pacific Ocean. It was identified that both fishery production and its export since introduction of the new regime in the sea were dominated by such coastal states as USA, Canada, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, South Africa and Newzealand. But difficulties have been experienced in the European countries including Norway, Spain, Japan and Rep. of Korea. Therefore, majority of coastal states are unlikely to have yet undertaken proper utilization as well as rational management of marine living resources in their jurisdiction during the last two decades. The main target species groups which led the world fishery production to go up were Alaska pollock, cods, tunas, sardinellas, chub and jack mackerel and anchoveta. These stocks are largely expected to continue to contribute to the production. The fisheries resources which are unexploited, underexploited and/or lightly exploited at present and which will be contributed to the world production in future are identified with cephalopods, Pacific jack mackerel and Atlantic mackerel, silver hake including anchovies. These resources mainly distribute in the Pacific regions, especially FAO statistical fishing areas 67, 77 and 87. It was likely to premature to conclude that the new regime in the sea was only in favour of coastal states in fishey production.

천해양식어업발달과정에 관한 연구 - 기술개발활동을 중심으로 - (A Study of Technical Development of Mariculture in the Coastal Water)

  • Mariculture is contrasted with inland aqua-culturing fisheries. It is defind as the Industry of rearing Aquaorganism in limited coastal area relatively shallow in depth. Then, It's coming into being realization of Mariculture in it is long in history that Mariculture was realized in Korea. But it is from the early part of 1960s, that this industry has normally developed. Owing to 200 miles economy-zone problems of coastal countries, the development of deep sea fishing was limited, so the Korean Government has now appreciated the importance of cultured industries in the field of coastal fisheries. And the Korean Mariculture the output of which was only 18, 000 M/T in '60s attained 540, 000M/T in 1980s, has now occupied its relative importance in Korean Fisheries Industry. So the purpose of this report is to suggest the prospect of technical development of mariculture in the future of Korea, through the analysis of the various problems that affect upon the individual management '||'&'||' fishing ground utilization, along with the appreciation of "how to extend of those technical innovation" and "how the fishermen's technique level is extended at this stage. According to this study, the result is summarized as follows. First, Maricultural technique is classified into 8 sub-techniques as follows, as shown in fig. 1.Fig. 1. The Formation structure of mariculture technique Second, the change of technical method of mariculture in coastal area of Korea has made as 5 stages; 1) Scattering of culturing organism 2) Culturing by putting stone and installing bamboo 3) Culturing by installing rope and seeding 4) Culturing of putting objectives in cages 5) Culturing fish by feed Third, the maricultural fisheries of Korea has about 70 years long in history. It began from 1910s. But at that time there was no special technique in aquaculture and its technique was confined in searching out the object of species. The species was laver, oyster ect.Forth, although realization of mariculture in Korea has been long time, it is of late from 1960s that this has been industrial with normal development, and its technique of mariculture has mainly has developed from 1970s. Its result not only contributed to the high growth in Korean ecconomy along with the well balanced development between industires, but also it played a great role for the resolution of nation's food problem. Especially maricultural production has shown its sustained annual increase of 13.8% during the last 20 years. So the portion of mariculture among total fisheries stucture was extended from 4.1% in the early 1960s to 22.4% in 1980s.Fifth, it could be safely said that such development in maricultural field is resulted from the activity of aquacultural institutes such as Fisheries Reseach '||'&'||' Development production of major kinds such as Oyster, Sea-mustard, and Laver etc. As well as in the innovation of aquaculturing method with synthetic fiber utilization. FRDA has played important role in the efficient propargation of new aquacultural technique.Sixth, as for the change in aquaculture structure and its during period between 1970s and 1980s, the private management participation shown 25% increase from household number of 45, 173 to 56, 268 in total number. And in the respect of the management scale, of their management decreased, while it showed an increase in relative large scale management, the increase over 3 employees compared with other fisheries field between '70s and 80s. But the problem being from now on is the self-discharge of the destruction fishing ground considered resulted from rapid expansion in aquaculture industry and the preventive system of sentility of fishing ground. sentility of fishing ground.
