  • The crystal structure of $(C_{12}H_{24}O_6{\cdot}K)_2K[Co(OH)_6Mo_6O_{18}]{\cdot}12H_2O$ has been determined by X-ray diffraction. Crystal data as follows ; monoclinic, space group $C_2/m,\;a\;=\;22.512(4)\;{\AA},\;b\;=\;18.304(4)\;{\AA},\;c\;=\;7.641(1)\;{\AA},\;{\beta}\;=\;90.52(2)\;{\AA}$, and Z = 2. A final conventional R value of 0.044 was obtained by least-squares refinement of 4173 independent observed $[{\mid}Fo{\mid}{\geq}3{\sigma}({\mid}Fo{\mid})]$ reflections. The $[Co(OH)_6Mo_6O_}{18}]^{-3}$ polyanion shows the well-known Anderson-structure and has approximate 3m symmetry. A $[Co(OH)_6Mo_6O_{18}]^{-3}$ polyanion is located between two crown ether complexed cations forming a sandwich structure. One potassium ion interacts with the crown ether via electrostatic interactions. The other potassium ion only interacts with the water molecules and terminal oxygen atoms of the polyanion.

  • In this study, a spiking cortical model (SCM) based n-g discrimination method is proposed. The SCM-based algorithm is compared with three other methods, namely: (i) the pulse-coupled neural network (PCNN), (ii) the charge comparison, and (iii) the zero-crossing. The objective evaluation criteria used for the comparison are the FoM-value and the time consumption of discrimination. Experimental results demonstrated that our proposed method outperforms the other methods significantly with the highest FoM-value. Specifically, the proposed method exhibits a 34.81% improvement compared with the PCNN, a 50.29% improvement compared with the charge comparison, and a 110.02% improvement compared with the zero-crossing. Additionally, the proposed method features the second-fastest discrimination time, where it is 75.67% faster than the PCNN, 70.65% faster than the charge comparison and 38.4% slower than the zero-crossing. Our study also discusses the role and change pattern of each parameter of the SCM to guide the selection process. It concludes that the SCM's outstanding ability to recognize the dynamic information in the pulse signal, improved accuracy when compared to the PCNN, and better computational complexity enables the SCM to exhibit excellent n-γ discrimination performance while consuming less time.

  • This paper describes a 10-bit 10-MS/s asynchronous successive approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a rail-to-rail input range. The proposed SAR ADC consists of a capacitor digital-analog converter (DAC), a SAR logic and a comparator. To reduce the frequency of an external clock, the internal clock which is asynchronously generated by the SAR logic and the comparator is used. The time-domain comparator with a offset calibration technique is used to achieve a high resolution. To reduce the power consumption and area, a split capacitor-based differential DAC is used. The designed asynchronous SAR ADC is fabricated by using a 0.18 um CMOS process, and the active area is $420{\times}140{\mu}m^2$. It consumes the power of 0.818 mW with a 1.8 V supply and the FoM is 91.8 fJ/conversion-step.

  • In this paper, CMOS analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a 6-bit 100MSPS at 1.8V is described. The architecture of the proposed ADC is based on a folding type ADC using resistive interpolation technique for low power consumption. Further, the number of folding blocks (NFB) is decreased by half of them compared to the conventional ones. A moebius-band averaging technique is adopted at the proposed ADC to improve performance. With the clock speed of 100MSPS, the ADC achieves an effective resolution bandwidth (ERBW) of 50MHz, while consuming only 4.5mW of power. The measured result of figure-of-merit (FoM) is 0.93pJ/convstep. The INL and DNL are within ${\pm}0.5 LSB$, respectively. The active chip occupies an area of $0.28mm^2$ in 0.18um CMOS technology.

  • This paper proposed a low power CMOS Flash-SAR A/D converter which consists of a Flash A/D converter for 2 most significant bits and a SAR A/D converter with capacitor D/A converter for 8 least significant bits. Employment of a Flash A/D converter allows the proposed circuit to enhance the conversion speed. The SAR A/D converter with capacitor D/A converter provides a low power dissipation. The proposed A/D converter consumes $136{\mu}W$ with a power supply of 1V under a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process and achieves 9.16 effective number of bits for sampling frequency up to 2MHz. Therefore it results in 120fJ/step of Figure of Merit (FoM).

  • The effect of low dose $\gamma$ radiation on photosynthesis and the reduction of photoinhibition in red pepper plant was investigated. The seedling height leaf width and leaf length of pepper were stimulated in plants grown from seeds irradiated with the low dose of 4 Gy. The $O_2$ evolution in the 4 Gy irradiation group was 1.5 times greater than in the control. To investigate the effect of low dose $\gamma$ radiation on response to high light stress, photoinhibition was induced in leaves of pepper by illumination of high light (900 $\mu mol/m^2/s$). Pmax was decreased with increasing illumination time by 20% in the control, while hardly decreased in the 4 Gy irradiation group. The photochemical yield of PSII, estimated as Fv/Fm, was decreased with increasing illumination time by 50% after 4 hours while Fo did not change. However, Fv/Fm in the 4 Gy irradiation group was decreased by 37% of inhibition, indicating that the photoinhibition was decreased by the low dose $\gamma$ radiation. Changes in the effective quantum yield of PSII, $\Phi_{PSII}$, and 1/Fo-1/Fm, a measure of the rate constant of excitation trapping by the PSII reaction center, showed similar pattern to Fv/Fm. And NPQ was decreased after photoinhibitory treatment showing no difference between the control and the 4 Gy irradiation group. These results showed the positive effect of low dose $\gamma$ radiation on the seedling growth and the reduction of photoinhibition.

  • Objectives : The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effect of Flaxseed oil and Chrysanthemi Indici Flos 50% ethanol extract in an HCl/ethanol induced acute gastritis model. Methods : ICR mice were divided into 6 groups; normal mice (Nor), gastritic mice with distilled water (Veh), gastritic mice with 10 mg/kg sucralfate (SC), gastritic mice with 16 g/㎏ Flaxseed oil (FO), gastritic mice with FO + 50 mg/kg Chrysanthemi Indici Flos (FCL), and gastritic mice with FO + 100 mg/kg Chrysanthemi Indici Flos (FCH). Then, mice were orally administered with 150 mM HCl/60% ethanol and caused acute gastritis. After 1 hr, mice were sacrificed, and blood and stomach tissue were collected. Results : Administration of FCL and FCH to mice prior to the induction of gastritis was found to reduce gastric injury. reactive oxygen species (ROS) and peroxy nitrite ($ONOO^-$) levels of stomach tissues were significantly decreased in FO, FCL, and FCH compared to Veh group. As results of stomach protein analyses, FCL and FCH effectively reduce inflammatory-related factors such as inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin 1 beta ($IL-1{\beta}$) in gastric lesion mice. In addition, nuclear factor kappa B p65 ($NF-{\kappa}B$ p65) and phosphorylation inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa $B{\alpha}(p-I{\kappa}B{\alpha})$ were down-regulated in FCL and FCH administrated gastric lesion mice. Conclusions : These results suggest that FCL and FCH has an inhibitory effect against gastric injury. Therefore, FCL and FCH has the potential to be used as a natural therapeutic drug.

  • Gourd seeds were irradiated with the doses of 0-20 Gy to investigate the effect of the low dose $\gamma$-radiation on the early growth and physiological activity. The stimulating effects of the low dose y- radiation on the early growth were not noticeably high, but were increased generally at 4-16 Gy irradiation group. The catalase and peroxidase activity of cotyledon from seeds irradiated with $\gamma$- radiation were increased at 8 Gy irradiation group. The photochemical activity of leaf was noticeably high at 4 Gy irradiation group. The photochemical yield of PSII, estimated as Fv/Fm, decreased with increasing illumination time by 50% after 4 hrs in the control and 8 Gy irradiation group, while Fo slightly increased. However, Fv/Em in the 4 Gy irradiation group decreased by 40% of inhibition, indicating that photoinhibition decreased by the low dose $\gamma$- radiation. Changes in the effective quantum yield of PSII, $\varphi_{PSII}$ and 1/Fo- l/Fm, a measure of the rate constant of excitation trapping by the PSII reaction center, showed similar pattern to Fv/Em. NPQ decreased by 70% after photoinhibitory treatment with showing similar pattern between the control and the irradiation group. These results showed the positive effect of low dose $\gamma$- radiation on the seedling growth and the reduction of photoinhibition in the 4 Gy irradiation group.

  • In this paper, an energy-efficient 11.49-bit successive approximation register (SAR) capacitance-to-digital converter (CDC) for capacitive sensors with a figure of merit (FoM) of 31.6 pJ/conversion-step is presented. The CDC employs a SAR algorithm to obtain low power consumption and a simplified structure. The proposed circuit uses a capacitive sensing amplifier (CSA) and a dynamic latch comparator to achieve parasitic capacitance-insensitive operation. The CSA adopts a correlated double sampling (CDS) technique to reduce flicker (1/f) noise to achieve low-noise characteristics. The SAR algorithm is implemented in dual operating mode, using an 8-bit coarse programmable capacitor array in the capacitance-domain and an 8-bit R-2R digital-to-analog converter (DAC) in the charge-domain. The proposed CDC achieves a wide input capacitance range of 29.4 pF and a high resolution of 0.449 fF. The CDC is fabricated in a $0.18-{\mu}m$ 1P6M complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) process with an active area of 0.55 mm2. The total power consumption of the CDC is $86.4{\mu}W$ with a 1.8-V supply. The SAR CDC achieves a measured 11.49-bit resolution within a conversion time of 1.025 ms and an energy-efficiency FoM of 31.6 pJ/step.
