  • This paper deals with the development of computational schemes for the dynamic analysis of flexible and nonlinear multibody systems. Different from the existing method, this paper introduces the quaternion algebra to develop the equation of the conservation of energy. Simultaneously, Rodrigues parameters are used to express the finite rotation for the proposed scheme. The proposed energy scheme is derived such that it provides unconditionally stable conditions for the nonlinear problems. Several examples of dynamic systems are presented which illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the developed energy schemes.

  • A plastic substrate for flexible display is developed. The gas barrier property in the substrate is improved through depositing metal and metal oxide multi layer on plastic film by PVD process. The metal/metal-oxide multiplayer on plastic film shows excellent gas barrier property and optical property.

  • This paper deals with a problem on the selection of alternative tools in a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) where a lot of tools are required to produce a large variety of product items. An approach using branch and bound method is proposed to minimize a total number of tools required through the optimal use of the alternative tools. In this approach, tools are initially divided into tool subgroups based on graph theory for the purpose of the effective search of the optimal solution. A small example is also presented to highlight the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • An improved and flexible matrix algorithm for solving interlinked separation problems which is based on the homotopy continuation method has been developed. A flexible model of the interlinked stream in standardized matrix form and JACOBIAN generation I algorithm for homotopy continuation are suggested. Also DOF analysis is performed for easy-understanding of equation based simulation of complex column systems. The Algorithm is tested on several problems of interlinked separation processes and some of results are documented.

  • The effect of the applied direction and magnitude of loads on the stability and natural frequency of flexible rotors is analyzed, when the rotors are subject to nonconservative torque and force. The stability criterion derived from the energy and variational principle is discussed and a general Galerkin's method which utilizes admissible functions is employed for numerical analysis. Illustrative examples are treated to demonstrate the analytical developments.

  • In the paper, Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC) that determines its optimal coefficients using Genetic Algorithms is considered. It is also applied to the inverted pendulum problem known popularly as a standard plant. Flexibility of the inverted pendulum has been taken into account. In the results, Fuzzy Logic Controller under consideration successfully controls both rigid mode and flexible mode. The rule base of Fuzzy Logic Controller is automatically tuned using not only trial-error method but also Genetic Algorithms.

  • A high speed rotor balancing machine was developed, which is capable of balancing a flexible rotor in high speed. The machine is largely consisted of vacuum chamber, oil supply system and vacuum pump system. And, in order to investigate performances of the machine, various tests were carried. After high speed rotor balancing of gas turbine engine rotor using influence coefficient method, the flexible engine rotor passed smoothly through its critical speed.

  • To improve the performance of the robots they must be built ever lighter, which will lead to flexibility of the links. The full order of the flexible link manipulator dynamic system does not allow the determination of a feedback linearization control as for flexible link manipulator regard low mode. In this paper, this drawback is overcome by LQG/LTR controller which is designed bya corrected reduced modle based on the singular perturbation method.

  • Flelxible Manufacturing Systems(FMS), which consist of various machine groups, can produce machine parts in different physical dimensions and lot sizes. In this paper, a novel method which utilizes Colored and Timed Petri Net is proposed to model a FMS. Each machine group of FMS is modulized and modeled using expanded Petri Nets. Colored and Timed Petri Nets are defined, and the flexible manufacturing systems's design algorithm based on this definition is developed and verified in a real FMS plant by computer simulations.
