  • An analyical method is proposed to construct a clamp jointed structure as an equivalent stiffness matrix element in the finite element modal analysis of a complex beam structure. Static structural analysis was first made for the detail finite element model of the clamp joint. Utilizing the results of this analysis, the equivalent stiffness matrix element was buildup by using the flexibility influence coefficient method and Guyan condensation. The proposed method was applied to finite element modal analysis of a clamp jointed cantilever beam. And the finite element analysis results were compared to those experimental modal analysis. Comparison shows doog agreement each other Furthermore the effects of normal contact(or clamping) load on the equivalent stiffness matrix was also examined. The equivalent stiffness matrix showed little change in spite of the remakable increase in the contact load on the clamp joint.

  • This paper presents rational modeling and analysis method for complex structures with various structural joints. For modeling of structural joint, a general modeling technique is newly proposed by flexibility influence coefficient and inverse of flexibility matrix and static reduction concept which is applied to the retained DOFs(degrees of freedom) of detailed finite element model of struction joints. By this method, joint model with contact surface. which can not be reduced by the general reduction theory such as Guyan reduction theory ,can be reduced effectively. And in this method, the nonlinearity of the contact surface can be linearized within a proper range and the boundary effects of joint region can be excluded. Using the proposed method, screwed joint, glued joint and bolted joint are analyzed. And the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experiments.

  • Rational dynamic modeling and analysis method f3r complex structures are studied with special attention to slide way joints. For modeling of slide way joints, a general modeling technique is used by using the influence coefficients method which is applied to the conversion of detailed finite element model to the equivalent reduced joint model. The theoretical part of this method is illustrated and the method is applied to the structure with slide way joint. In this method, the non-linearity of the contact surfaces is considered within a proper range and the boundary effect of the joint model could be eliminated. The proposed method was applied to finite element modal analysis of a clamp jointed cantilever beam and slide way joints of the vertical type lathe. The method can also be used to other kinds of joint modeling. The results of these analysis were compared with those of Yoshimura models and rigid joint models, which demonstrated the practical applicability of the proposed method.

  • Machine tool design concepts have evolved towards high efficiency, accurate precision. high structural integrity, and multi-functional systems. Like many other structures, machine tools are also composed of many parts. When these parts are assembled, many kinds of joints are used. In the finite element analysis of these assembled structures, most joints are commonly considered as rigid joints. But, to get the more accurate solution, we need to model these joints in a appropriate manner. In this study, rational dynamic modeling and analysis method for complex structures are studied with special attention to slide way joints. For modeling of slide way joints, a general modeling technique is used by influence coefficients method which is applied to the conversion of detailed finite element model to the equivalent reduced joint model. • In this paper, we formulated algorithm for free vibration analysis of cylindrical shells with stiffeners by applying the transfer influence coefficient method. This was developed as a vibration analysis method suitable for using personal computer(PC). The simple computational results form PC demonstrated the validity of the present algorithm, that is, the computational high accuracy and speed, and the flexibility of programming. We compared with results of the transfer matrix method and the reference. We also confirmed that the present algorithm could provide the solutions of high accuracy for system with a lots of intermediate rigid supports and stiffeners. And all boundary conditions and the intermediate stiff supports between shell and foundation could be treated only by adequately varying the values of the spring constants.

  • This paper desfcribes the formulation for the analysis of the free vibration of a circular cylindrical shell with elastic supports by the transfer influence coefficient method. This method was developed on the base of the concept of the successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients. The analysis algorithm for circular cylindrical shell elastically restrained by springs, which plays an important role in many industrial fields, is discussed. The supporting springs have the axial, circumferential, radial and rotational spring constants uniformly distributed along the circumference of the shell. The simple computational results on a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed analysis method and the flexibility for programming, compared with results of the transfer matrixmethod and reference. We also confirmed that the present algorithm could obtain the solutions of high accuracy for system with a number of intermediate rigid supports. And we could easily treat the intermediate support and all boundary conditions by adequately varying the values of spring constants.

  • The present work is an alternative methodology in order to balance a nonlinear highly flexible rotor by using neural networks. This procedure was developed aiming at improving the performance of classical balancing methods, which are developed in the context of linearity between acting forces and resulting displacements and are not well adapted to these situations. In this paper a fully experimental procedure using neural networks is implemented for dealing with the adaptive balancing of nonlinear rotors. The nonlinearity results from the large displacements measured due to the high flexibility of the foundation. A neural network based meta-model was developed to represent the system. The initialization of the learning procedure of the network is performed by using the influence coefficient method and the adaptive balancing strategy is prone to converge rapidly to a satisfactory solution. The methodology is tested successfully experimentally.

  • This paper describes the general formulation for the in-plane flexural free vibration analysis of two layered structure by the transfer influence coefficient method. The structure is regared as a distributed mass system with lumped mass and inertia moments, massless linear and rotational springs, and joints elements of releases and rolls at which the displacements are discontinuous in each layer. The results of the simple numerical examples on a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed, the flexibility for programming of the present algorithm, compared with the transfer matrix method.
