When the temperature of a structure varies, there is a tendency to produce changes in the shape of the structure. The resulting actions may be of considerable importance in the analysis of the structures having non-prismatic members. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the modeling, analysis and behavior of the non-prismatic members subjected to temperature changes with the aid of finite element modeling. The fixed-end moments and fixed-end forces of such members due to temperature changes were computed through a comprehensive parametric study. It was demonstrated that the conventional methods using frame elements can lead to significant errors, and the deviations can reach to unacceptable levels for these types of structures. The design formulas and the dimensionless design coefficients were proposed based on a comprehensive parametric study using two-dimensional plane-stress finite element models. The fixed-end actions of the non-prismatic members having parabolic and straight haunches due to temperature changes can be determined using the proposed approach without necessitating a detailed finite element model solution. Additionally, the robust results of the finite element analyses allowed examining the sources and magnitudes of the errors in the conventional analysis.
The purpose of this paper is to address the multiple split common fixed point problem. We present two different methods to approximate a solution of the problem. One is cyclic iteration method; the other is simultaneous iteration method. Under appropriate assumptions on the operators and iterative parameters, we prove both the proposed algorithms converge to the solution of the multiple split common fixed point problem. Our results generalize and improve some known results in the literatures.
This study was to evaluate the utilization of terrestrial light detection and ranging for forest inventory in coniferous forests. Heights and diameter of the stand trees were measured manually using the traditional measurement method and the method using terrestrial LiDAR. The results of two methods were compared and analyzed to evaluate accuracy and feasibility. The terrestrial LiDAR used fixed and handy types to compare the accuracy between different operational methods. Comparative analyses used a paired t-test and Bland-Altman plot analysis. In the case of tree heights, the average of difference between the traditional method and terrestrial LiDAR for each plot was 0.81 m, -0.07 m, and 0.13 m for fixed type; 2.88 m, 1.19 m, and 0.93 m for the handy type. In the case of tree diameter at breast height, the average value of the difference between traditional methods and terrestrial LiDAR for each plot was 0.13 cm, -0.66 cm, and -0.03 cm for fixed type; 2.36 cm, 2.13 cm, and 1.92 cm for the handy type. The values from the method using the fixed type was highly consistent with that using the traditional measurement methods; the average difference was closer to zero. The crown density influences the precision of the height measurement using terrestrial LiDAR in coniferous forests. Therefore, future studies should focus on verifying the accuracy of terrestrial LiDAR in forests and on expanding the utilization of terrestrial LiDARs according to their operational methods.

In this study, the surface marker method, one of the particle tracking methods, used to track the free surface is extended to cover the more general cases easily including the collision and separation of the free surface. In surface particle method to redistribute particles effectively using the grid system, the free surface is composed of the sum of quadrilaterals having four curves where fixed markers are placed at ends of each curve. Fixed markers are used to know how curves are connected to each other. The position of fixed markers can move as the free surface deforms but all fixed markers cannot be deleted during all time of simulation to keep informations of curve connection. In the case of the collision or separtion of the free surface where several curves can be intersected disorderly, severe difficulties can occur to define newly states of curve connection. In this study, the adaptable surface parTicle method without fixed markers is introduced. Intersection markers instead of the fixed markers are used to define quadrilaterals. The position of the intersection markers is defined to be the intersection point between the free surface and the edge of the grid and it can be added or deleted during the time of simulation to allow more flexibilities. To verify numerical schemes, two flow cases are simulated and the numerical results are compared with other's one and shown to be valid.
This research discusses the characteristics and the implementation strategies for two types of quality metrics to analyze innovation effects in six sigma projects: fixed specification type and moving specification type. $Z_{st}$, $P_{pk}$ are quality metrics of fixed specification type that are influenced by predetermined specification. In contrast, the quality metrics of moving specification type such as Strictly Standardized Mean Difference(SSMD), Z-Score, F-Statistic and t-Statistic are independent from predetermined specification. $Z_{st}$ sigma level obtains defective rates of Parts Per Million(PPM) and Defects Per Million Opportunities(DPMO). However, the defective rates between different industrial sectors are incomparable due to their own technological inherence. In order to explore relative method to compare defective rates between different industrial sectors, the ratio of specification and natural tolerance called, $P_{pk}$, is used. The drawback of this $P_{pk}$ metric is that it is highly dependent on the specification. The metrics of F-Statistic and t-Statistic identify innovation effect by comparing before-and-after of accuracy and precision. These statistics are not affected by specification, but affected by type of statistical distribution models and sample size. Hence, statistical significance determined by above two statistics cannot give a same conclusion as practical significance. In conclusion, SSMD and Z-Score are the best quality metrics that are uninfluenced by fixed specification, theoretical distribution model and arbitrary sample size. Those metrics also identify the innovation effects for before-and-after of accuracy and precision. It is beneficial to use SSMD and Z-Score methods along with popular methods of $Z_{st}$ sigma level and $P_{pk}$ that are commonly employed in six sigma projects. The case studies from national six sigma contest from 2011 to 2012 are proposed and analyzed to provide the guidelines for the usage of quality metrics for quality practitioners.

Optical remote sensing techniques are particularly advantageous over the conventional fixed point methods because with these methods large-area monitoring can be possible and sample preparation difficulties are avoidable. Instruments based on the differential optical absorption spectroscopy (DOAS) technique are widely used for monitoring air pollutants in urban areas in recent years. In this study, $O_3$, SO$_2$, NO$_2$, and VOCs (benzene, toluene, xylene, and styrene) are measured continuously at Sihwa industrial area using a DOAS from February to November. 1999. Intercomparison between the DOAS method and the conventional methods (filed point samplers for $O_3$, NO$_2$, and SO$_2$, and adsorbent sampling methods and gas chromatography for VOCs) are performed simultaneously at the same site. The time series of the DOAS data and that of fixed point method show good match at the view point of the tendency, but the absolute concentration values of these two methods differ quite a lot from each other; correlation coefficients shows 0.78 for $O_3$and 0.97 for SO$_2$. However, the results of VOCs measurements are not quite satisfactory ; the spectral interference with $O_2$and $O_3$appears to be the major cause of the errors for VOCs .
This paper presents a moving mesh method for solving the hyperbolic conservation laws. Moving mesh method consists of two independent parts: PDE evolution and mesh- redistribution. We compute numerical solution of shallow water equation by using moving mesh methods. In comparison with computations on a fixed grid, the moving mesh method appears more accurate resolution of discontinuities.
Let E be a smooth Banach space. Suppose T:$E \rightarrow E$ is a strongly accretive map. It is proved that each of the two well known fixed point iteration methods (the Mann and ishikawa iteration methods), under suitable conditions converges strongly to a solution of the equation $T_x=f$.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of the maxillary three-unit fixed dental prosthesis (FDPs) made using two CAD/CAM milling machines : DCM Group(Dentaim CAD/CAM milling machine), WCM Group(Wieland CAD/CAM milling machine). Methods: Each of 10 duplicate models was scanned by blue light scanner(Identica, Medit, Korea), and the three-unit FDPs (STL file) was designed using DelcamCAD. A total of 20 three-unit FDPs was fabricated, comprising 2 groups of 10 specimens each (shrinkage ratio is 1:1). The first three-unit FDPs STL file was used as a CAD reference model (CRM). Obtained STL files by scanning the inner surface of three-unit FDPs were convened into the point clouds-ASC II files. Discrepancies between the point clouds and CRM were measured by superimposition software. Statistical methods to analyze the data were used non-parametric method. The mean (SD) values were compared by a Mann-Whitney U-test. Type one error rate was set at 0.05. Results: WCM group had small discrepancies with $2.17{\mu}m$ of mean value compared to $4.44{\mu}m$ in DCM group. The accuracy values between the two groups showed a sratistically significant difference (Table 2, p<.05). Conclusion: The accuracy of the three-unit fixed dental prosthesis(FDPs) made of two CAD/CAM milling machines were statistically different. Accuracy with which the prosthesis made of WCM group was superior.
