  • In the virtual environment, reality can be enhanced by offering the motion based on a motion simulator in harmony with visual and auditory modalities. In this research, the Stewart platform based motion simulator has been developed. This motion simulator is driven by the electric motors, and offers the slightly wider workspace compared to the commercial available simulators. In order to compensate for the limited range of the motion platform, the washout filters with fixed coefficients have been usually adopted. In this paper the new approach is proposed to tune the filter coefficients based on the fuzzy logic on the real-time basis. It is shown that performance with the variable filter coefficients is better than that with the fixed ones. The driving simulator based on the bicycle dynamics was developed by integrating the motion simulator and graphic system.

  • In the virtual environment, reality can be enhanced by offering the motion based on a motion simulator in harmony with visual and auditory modalities. In this research the Stewart-Gough-platform-based motion simulator has been developed. Implementation of vehicle dynamics is necessary in the motion simulator for realistic sense of motion, so bicycle dynamics is adopted in this research. In order to compensate for the limited range of the motion simulator compared with the real vehicle motion, washout algorithm composed of high-pass filter, low-pass filter and tilt coordination is usually employed. Generally, the washout algorithm is used with fixed parameters. In this research a new approach is proposed to tune the filter parameters based on fuzzy logic in real-time. The cutoff frequencies of the filters are adjusted according to the workspace margins and driving conditions. It is shown that the washout filter with the fuzzy-based parameters presents better performance than that with the fixed ones.

  • In this paper, the efficient HW/SW co-simulation method which selects the ISA model dynamically is proposed. Because the ISA models with only fixed accuracy have been used in previous co-simulation environment, it may result in bad performance in speed or accuracy. In the proposed method, the cycle accurate ISA model is used in the case that the states of the detailed system are to be inspected. In other case, instruction-based model is executed in order to accelerate the simulation speed. The proposed dynamic model selection can be done by setting the conversion point in the application code before the simulation starts. The experiment on the embedded RISC processor have been performed, and its result shows that the proposed method is more efficient than the case of using fixed ISA model.

  • This paper estimates of the effect of Clean Workplace Program on industrial accident rates among firms with fewer than 50 workers. The program subsidizes selected firms for work environment improvement. After controling for selectivity and fixed effects in difference-in-difference model, we find that the program reduces the accident rates by 0.34%p, which amount to a decline of 15.8% in total accident rates.

  • Studies on compensation structures of international technology licensing show that the level of intellectual property protection in the host market and the favorableness of the host country's economic environment are positively related to the use of running royalty-based compensation structure. Lump-sum fee or fixed royalty compensation is more likely to be used in the introduction and decline stages of the technology life cycle, and running royalty compensation in the growth stage. The international experience and the size of the licensor company are positively related to the use of running royalty. In this theoretical context, this paper analyzes the compensation structures of technology import in Korea. The paper uses the officially reported data to analyze the compensation structures. It analyzes the characteristics of the compensation structures in terms of fixed royalty and running royalty by licensor country, group of licensor countries and size of licensee companies.

  • Finite wordlength effects of the FS-1016 CELP(Code Excite Linear Prediction) vocoder algorithm) is analyzed, and a block floating-Point implementation method is employed to improve the fixed-point performance. An efficient run-time integer wordlength estimation algorithm is developed, and the overall system performance. An efficient run-time integer wordlength estimation algorithm is developed, and the overall system performance is verified in real-time using a TMS320C50 emulation board. Autoscaler software that conducts simulation-based automatic scaling to provide a floating-point like programming environment is used for this application development.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of optimum selection of quality-of-service(QoS) classes in interworking between the networks in a next-generation-network(NGN) environment. After introducing the delay-cost and loss-cost characteristics, we discuss the time-invariant(TI) and time-variant(TV) scenarios. For the TI case, we show that under nearly lossless transmission condition, each network can make its own optimization regardless of other networks. For the TV case, we present sufficient conditions under which the optimum QoS class of each network can be considered fixed with respect to time without considerable degradation in the optimization target. Therefore, under the conditions presented in this paper, the QoS of a flow in each network can be determined solely by considering the characteristics of that network and this QoS class can be held fixed during the flow period.

  • In this paper, we estimate the performance requirements of general-purpose DSP for Carrier Recovery of OFDM DVB-T receiver. Firstly, we transported the designed fixed-point OFDM DVB-T model to a floating-point software model written in C. Then, we measured the number of instruction cycles required for operation of Carrier Recovery in time. We use SignalMaster$\^$TM/ DSP platform of LYRtech Inc. as a environment of estimation, and Simulink$\^$TM/ as a graphical interface, Code Composer StudioTM of TI as profiler and compiler, and SPW$\^$TM/ for presenting functional reliability and comparing the performance distortion with fixed-point model. As a result, we show the required number of DSPs in our DSP-based system, and introduce the need of Multi-DSP-based system.

  • Several studies indicated that an independent visual background (IVB) reduced simulator sickness (SS) and balance disturbance associated with exposure to virtual environments (VEs) and motion simulators. A recent study showed that an IVB comprised of an earth-fixed grid was less effective in a complex driving simulator than in a simple VE. Subjects' post-experiment reports indicated that the VE motion "induced" motion of the earth-fixed grid m. This led to the suggestion that an IVB comprised of clouds would be less subject to induced motion and therefore would alleviate nausea more effectively than a grid IVB. Clouds are "natural" and are usually perceived as relatively stable, whereas a grid has no inherent stability. 12 subjects were exposed to complex motion through a simulated environment in a driving simulator under 3 IVB conditions: grid, less clouds, many clouds. They reported less nausea when the many-cloud IVB was used relative to the grid IVB condition. grid IVB condition.

  • This paper considers a new variation of scheduling problems where jobs are dispatched in batches. The variation is the case where the batch sequence is fixed. The objective is to minimize the sum of the completion times of the batches. This simple environment has a variety of real world applications such as part kitting and customer order scheduling. We show that this problem is binary NP-complete when there exist two machines. For the same problem, we develop an optimal dynamic programming (DP) algorithm which runs in pseudo-polynomial time. We finally prove the optimality of the DP algorithm.
