The purpose of this study was to apply a concept map to the first-year students of radiologic science and report its effects. The concept map is a visual representation of a major concept and related linking statements. Concept maps are useful tools for students to construct and organize content they have learned. The subjects of this study were first-year grade and at one university in Chungbuk, Korea. They were divided into active and passive participant groups in the class. And they were evaluated the educational effects such as satisfaction, fidelity, learning achievement, and interest before and after using the concept map. As a result, the passive participant group significantly increased the educational effect except for satisfaction, and the active participant group significantly increased the educational effect in all variables (p<0.05). These results showed that concept mapping, which induces first-year grade students to participate in class, could be helpful in radiologic education. It is expected to be used as basic data in various radiologic educational methodology studies in the future.
This study is focused on middle school students who are composed of a factor in medical emergency system. In the case of cardiac failure, it is to make its basic data and develop its education program of CPR(cardiopulmonary resuscitation) which can increase the patient's survival rate before his hospitalization. The findings of this study is as follows. The subject of study is composed of 117 persons who are 54 boy-students(46.2%) and 63 girl-students(53.8%) in sex and 72 first-grade students(61.5%) and 45 second-grade students (38.5%) in a school year. In the accuracy degree, the practice of artificial respiration is $42.28{\pm}34.42%$ in case of basic CPR(cardiopulmonary resuscitation). The accuracy degree of the thorax pressure is $82.17{\pm}15.40%.$ In the accuracy degree, the practice of artificial respiration is $92.16{\pm}25.68%$ in boy-students and $20.38{\pm}24.16%$ in girl-students, the second-grade students is $58.40{\pm}33.29%$, which is higher than the first-grade students' $32.21{\pm}31.14%$. In the accuracy degree, the thorax pressure is $92.16{\pm}3.91%$ in boy-studetns and $73.61{\pm}16.41%$ in girl-students. In the accuracy degree of the thorax pressure, the second-grade students are $82.60{\pm}16.54%$ and the first-grade students $81.91{\pm}3.91$, which doesn't show any significant difference in school year. The satisfaction degree after theory & practice education is $2.12{\pm}.85$. In the satisfaction degree of its basic CPR, girl-students are $2.14{\pm}.83$ and boy-students are 2.11. In the satisfaction degree of its basic CPR, the second-grade students are $2.40{\pm}.61$ and the first-grade students are $1.95{\pm}.94$. This study is to lead to some suggestions. First, it is necessary to develop the education program and educate its knowledge & technology in proportion to student's characteristics of sex and school year. Second, education authorities should develop a subject of the accident prevention and first-aid treatment in its curriculum and provide the practical education of CPR for adults, adolescents and children. Third, it is necessary to study the education program as well as the education evaluation of CPR further on.
Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the progression of Cobb's angle of middle school students according to the Risser grade changes during a one-year follow up period, and to identify the prevalence rate and related factors regarding scoliosis. Method: A total of 2,124 middle school students were preliminarily screened by the Adam's forward bending test. Among them, 21 adolescents diagnosed with scoliosis (above 5Cobb's angle) by X-Raying were the subjects and followed up for checking Cobb's angle and the Risser grade for one year. Results: The overall prevalence of scoliosis in middle school students was 2.13% and the prevalence in girls was higher than in boys. The Cobb's angle was significantly high in seniors and girls. The cases in low angle and low Risser grade demonstrated significant changes in progressive Cobb's angle compared to the cases in high angle and high Risser grade after one-year. But gender and pattern of curvature were not significantly different from the changes scoliosis angle after one-year. Conclusion: Based on these study results, juniors in low Risser grade were inclined to aggravate scoliosis despite the low degree of curvature at the first measurement.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the self-perceptions of the elementary school students' on the affective, behavioral and cognitive domains in science class. To see if there are differences in students' perceptions according to grade levels, a self-perception questionnaire was applied to third and fifth grade students in Seoul, Korea. The major results of the study are as follows. First, the perception level of the affective domain was higher than that of the cognitive domain in third grade students. There was no significant difference in the self-perception level of the fifth grade students. Both third and fifth grade students perceived the greatest improvement in the cognitive domain through one year of science teaching. Second, in the life science class, the same tendency was also observed. The students in the third and fifth grade reported that cognitive domains were the most improved through the one-year life science class. Third, when the students' perceptions were compared by grades, the third grade students showed higher self-perception scores than fifth grade students. As the grade increased, the perception scores of the students' lowered. Based on these findings, implications for science education research and teaching and learning at school are discussed.
Objective: To investigate the prevalence of malocclusion with respect to grade, sex, and year among Korean pre-adolescent and adolescent students during 2012-2017. Methods: A total of 165,996 students (first grade [E1, 6-7 years of age], fourth grade [E4, 9-10 years], seventh grade [M1, 12-13 years], and tenth grade [H1, 15-16 years]) were selected by stratified sampling method and underwent the nationwide oral health examination performed by the Ministry of Education, Republic of Korea. The malocclusion assessments based on dentists' judgments were "no malocclusion," "needs orthodontic treatment (N-OTx)," and "under orthodontic treatment (U-OTx)." The sum of N-OTx and U-OTx cases was determined as the number of students with malocclusion. After analyzing the prevalence of malocclusion according to grade, sex, and year-by-year differences, Pearson correlation analyses and two-way analyses of variance were performed. Results: The prevalence of malocclusion was 18.7%, which increased with the grades (E1 [8.3%] < E4 [15.8%] < M1 [22.9%] < H1 [25.3%], p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in the prevalence of malocclusion in each grade group for the period (p > 0.05) without significant correlation (E1, ρ = 0.129; E4, ρ = -0.495; M1, ρ = 0.406; H1, ρ = -0.383; all p > 0.05). The prevalence of malocclusion within each grade group over the six-year period was more prominent in the female (p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Further studies are necessary to modify the malocclusion assessment method to account for specific types of malocclusion in pre-adolescent and adolescent students.

According to the analysis of Kolb's learning style, Korean university student pilots interpret and attach meaning to themselves. Moreover, as the school year progresses, they enter the flight-training course with a 100 % diverger style, which is a variety of thoughts and imaginative learning styles. As the school year progresses, some changes occur with accommodator (11.1%) and assimilator (15.9%) styles. On the other hand, most students remain as the diverger style (71.4%). In the case of U.S. student pilots, most in first-year are assimilator (35.5%) and converger (24.3%) styles, and the proportion of the converger style increases as the senior year is approached. In the first grade, most Chinese student pilots are assimilators (41.5%) and convergers (28.4%), but in the higher grade, the proportion of assimilators and convergers decrease, and the proportion of diverger styles increases dramatically. In the fourth grade, the accommodator was similar to the first grade, but the converger style continued to decrease (41.5% in the first grade and 27.0% in the fourth grade).
One of the biggest changes in the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum is shifting to the second year of middle school in Pythagorean theorem. In this study, the following subjects were studied. First, Pythagoras theorem analyzed the expected problems caused by the shift to the second year middle school. Secondly, we have researched the reconstruction method to solve these problems. The results of this study are as follows. First, there are many different ways to deal with Pythagorean theorem in many countries around the world. In most countries, it was dealt with in 7th grade, but Japan was dealing with 9th grade, and the United States was dealing with 7th, 8th and 9th grade. Second, we derived meaningful implications for the curriculum of Korea from various cases of various countries. The first implication is that the Pythagorean theorem is a content element that can be learned anywhere in the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. Second, there is one prerequisite before learning Pythagorean theorem, which is learning about the square root. Third, the square roots must be learned before learning Pythagorean theorem. Optimal positions are to be placed in the eighth grade 'rational and cyclic minority' unit. Third, Pythagorean theorem itself is important, but its use is more important. The achievement criteria for the use of Pythagorean theorem should not be erased. In the 9th grade 'Numbers and Calculations' unit, after learning arithmetic calculations including square roots, we propose to reconstruct the square root and the utilization subfields of Pythagorean theorem.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of parenting and peers on youth engagement to pornography media, the fourth year data of the fourth-grade panel (first year at middle school) and the fourth-year data of the eighth-grade panel (first year at high school) were analyzed. The number of cases investigated for this panel study were 2,378 subjects among the fourth-year panel of the fourth grade and 2,361 subjects among the fourth-year panel of middle schoolers. But this study, the total of 720 subjects that the response were made in the pornography items are analyzed. The result of this study reveals that male students were more likely to be addicted to pornography than female students. Also, inconsistency and excessive intervention among the parenting attitudes and peer attachment and numbers of delinquent friens among the peer factors were shown to have influence on youth addiction to pornography. Based on such results, a proposal that a plan to increase the parental education and strengthen peer relationships is important ahead of the Controlled intervention in the meantime was made.
Restoration of skin reactivity to 1 TU of tuberculin (RT23) by repeated tests at 10 days interval has been investigated in the BCG vaccinated or unvaccinated primary school children. The results obtained are as follows. 1) Tuberculin reactors showing 6 mm or larger induration to the first tests were 20.0% in the first grade school children and 33.3% in the sixth grade children. Six millimeter or larger reaction than that of the first reaction was found in 14.9% of the first grade children and in 34.6% of the sixth grade children. 2) Six millimeter or larger reactors were 10.8% of the first grade children without BCG scar against both first and second tests and 11.8% of the sixth grade children on first tests and 10.6% on second tests. There was none or very few, if any, in number of 6 mm or larger difference between the first and second tests among children without BCG scar. In addition, there was no children shown 6 mm or larger second reaction than that of the first reaction and thus those reactors seemed to be natural infection. 3) From questionaire survey, parents of 73.3% of the first grade children and of 72.7% of the sixth grade children were aware of BCG vaccination of their children, while parents of 15.1% and 24.6% of the first and sixth grade children did not know their children's vaccination history even if children possessed BCG scar. 4) Of the first grade children whose parents remembered their BCG vaccination, 65.6% were vaccinated within 4 weeks after birth and 25.5% between 4 weeks and one year. Six millimeter or larger reaction on the first tests was observed in 20.2% of the former group and 15.9% of the latter group, however reactors on the second tests were 32.1% and 31.9% respectively. BCG scar was not observed in 13.9% of children. 5) The majority of children (87.3%) were vaccinated in the skin of deltoid area and some (7.7%) at buttock or other areas. Children received first vaccination at the health centers were 68.5% and 30.3% at hospitals. More than 5 mm reaction was found in 18.7% of the former children and in 15.0% of the latter children. From this study restoration of tuberculin reactivity by repeated tests was found very common among the vaccinated children and thus it should be taken into account for the vaccination policy if it is performed after tuberculin testing.

This study examined the longitudinal effect of preschool children's media exposure and maternal depression on first-grade children's school adjustment and the mediating effect of attention problem. Longitudinal data from the Panel Study of Korean Children (PSKC) collected by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education (KICCE) was used to examine this hypothetical model. The subjects of the study included 2,150 children (1,091 boys and 1,059 girls) and their mothers across 2013 (5 yrs.) through 2015 (7 yrs.). The Structural Equation Model (SEM) was estimated using SPSS 25.0 and Amos 25. The results of this study were as follows. First, higher level of preschool children's media exposure and maternal depression were related to higher attention problems after a year and lower level of children's school adjustment during first-grade. Second, preschool children's media exposure and maternal depression had an indirect effect on first-grade children's school adjustment via attention problem. The results of this study will provide supporting evidence to many educators and parents for the implementation of effective practices for first-grade children to enhance their school adjustment. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the importance of maternal psychological wellbeing and the risk of indiscriminate media exposure during early childhood on first-grade's school adjustment.
