The theory of household arts and practical acts are two traditional mainstream topics of official South Korean secondary home economics education. The clothing and textile education within the Secondary School Home Economics Textbook (1948) is various and practical. The first year textbook discusses the symbolism and maintenance of uniforms that provides information on the characteristics of cotton. Clothing and textiles are covered in 26 pages out of the 76 page book. The second year textbook includes the theory of color and form, along with the characteristics of flax and silk. Clothing and textile education is covered in 33 pages out of the 97 second year textbook. The third year textbook deals with the characteristics of wool, manufactured fibers, cross weaving, removing stains, clothing arrangements, and equipment; 5 chapters (56 pages out of 137) are spent on clothing and textiles. The fourth year textbook introduces the history of clothing, laundry principles, dyeing, bedclothes, and bed accessories; 4 chapters (63 pages out of 125 pages) are spent on clothing and textiles. The Secondary School Home Economics Textbook (1948) is highly extensive and profound in depth. It is comparable with modern college or specialized high school level clothing and textile education in terms of clothing materials, clothing maintenance, color theories, and dyeing.
In this paper a two-stage maximum-likelihood (ML) detection structure for group detection in DS/CDMA systems is presented. The first stage of the receiver is a linear filter, aimed at suppressing the effect of the unwanted (i.e., out-of-grout) users' signals, while the second stage is a non-linear block, implementing a ML detection rule on the set of desired users signals. As to the linear stage, we consider both the decorrelating and the minimum mean square error approaches. Interestingly, the proposed detection structure turns out to be a generalization of Varanasi's group detector, to which it reduces when the system is synchronous, the signatures are linerly independent and the first stage of the receiver is a decorrelator. The issue of blind adaptive receiver implementation is also considered, and implementations of the proposed receiver based on the LMS algorithm, the RLS algorithm and subspace-tracking algorithms are presented. These adaptive receivers do not rely on any knowledge on the out-of group users' signals, and are thus particularly suited for rejection of out-of-cell interference in the base station. Simulation results confirm that the proposed structure achieves very satisfactory performance in comparison with previously derived receivers, as well as that the proposed blind adaptive algorithms achieve satisfactory performance.

Recently, flash cache is widely adopted as the performance accelerator of legacy storage systems. Unlike other cache media, flash cache should be carefully managed as it has peculiar characteristics such as long write latency and limited P/E cycles. In particular, we make two prominent observations that can be utilized in managing flash cache. First, a serious worn-out problem happens when the working-set of a system is beyond the capacity of flash cache due to excessively frequent cache replacement. Second, more than 50% of data has no hit in flash cache as it is a second level cache. Based on these observations, we propose a cache admission control policy that does not cache data when it is first accessed, and inserts it into the cache only after its second access occurs within a certain time window. This allows the filtering of data disruptive to flash cache in terms of endurance and performance. With this policy, we prolong the lifetime of flash cache 2.3 times without any performance degradations.
A major consideration in the design of tunnels in urban areas is the prediction of the ground movements and surface settlements associated with the tunneling operations. Excessive ground movements can damage adjacent building and utilities. In this paper, a neural network model is used to predict the maximum surface settlement, based on instrumented results from three separate EPB tunneling projects in Singapore. This paper demonstrates that by coupling the trained neural network model to a spreadsheet optimization technique, the reliability assessment of the settlement serviceability limit state can be carried out using the first-order reliability method. With this method, it is possible to carry out sensitivity studies to examine the effect of the level of uncertainty of each parameter uncertainty on the probability that the serviceability limit state has been exceeded.
To prevent weakly flocculating characters of bottom brewing yeast during first fermentation, various technical investigations were carried out using strain of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It appeared that the propagation at $10^{\circ}C$ promoted the molecular structure and biochemical composition of cell wall in favor of flocculation. The yeast grown at $20^{\circ}C$ by addition of zinc ion also had a stimulating effect on flocculation behavior during first fermentation cycle. The zinc ion did not influence directly on the changes of cell wall in favor of stronger flocculence. The increased fermentation activity of yeast due to addition zinc ion was rather responsible for the intensified flocculation capacity. It was concluded that the weakly flocculating characters of bottom brewing yeast during first fermentation can be solved by using yeast propagated at $10^{\circ}C$ or by means of yeast by addition of zinc ion during propagation.
Acetolactate synthase (ALS) is the common enzyme in the biosynthetic pathways leading to leucine, valine, and isoleucine. Tobacco ALS was expressed in E. coli and purified to homogeneity. The recombinant tobacco ALS was inactivated by thiol-specific reagents, N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and 5,5'-dithio-bis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB). Inactivation of the ALS by NEM followed pseudo-first order kinetics and was first order with respect to the modifier. The substrate pyruvate protected the enzyme against the inactivation by NEM and DTNB. Extrapolation to complete inactivation of the enzyme by DTNB showed modification of approximately 2 out of 4 total cysteinyl residues (or 2 cysteinyl and 1 cysteinyl residues), with approximately 1 residue protected by pyruvate. The tobacco ALS was also inactivated by the tryptophanspecific reagent, N-bromosuccinimide (NBS), and was similarly protected by pyruvate. The kinetics of the inactivation was first-order with respect to NBS. The present data suggest that cysteinyl and tryptophanyl residues play a key role in the catalytic function of the enzyme.
Generally railway vehicle runs on the rail with endless interaction between wheel and rail. Irregularity of rail causes the periodic motion of the vehicle. In association with this motion, the design of vehicle would be carried out in order to avoid the resonance between car-body and bogie. It may be seen that the first vertical bending mode of car-body contributes considerably to the vertical ride comfort level. In this paper to know the effect of the car-body first vertical bending mode on vertical ride comfort, the mode has been considered with dynamic model. I-DEAS program was used to get the car-body first vertical bending mode and VAMPIRE program was used to analyze ride comfort index(Wz) with FE interface file.
In order to explore the association between cadherin 13 (CDH13) gene promoter methylation and lung carcinoma (LC) risk, we carried out a meta-analysis with searching of PubMed, Web of Science. Ultimately, 17 articles were identified and analysised by STATA 12.0 software. Overall, we found a significant relationship between CDH13 promoter methylation and LC risk (odds ratio=6.98, 95% confidence interval: 4.21-11.56, p<0.001). Subgroup analyses further revealed that LC risk was increased for individuals carrying the methylated CDH13 compared with those with unmethylated CDH13. Hence, our study identified a strong association between CDH13 gene promoter methylation and LC and highlighted a promising potential for CDH13 methylation in LC risk prediction.

This paper presents the problems of designing low-order controller for a linear time-invariant(LTI) system in parameter space, wherein both transient response requirements and stability shall be considered in the same space. For a LTI system, we, (1) develop a method determining the existence of low-order stabilizers of the first-order and PID structures, (2) develop an algorithm of finding such a stabilizing region. (3) Both procedures are carried out by means of a parametric approach in the same frame work. This leads to easily obtain a subset of controller gains from the stabilizing set, that meet good time response requirements. It is illustrated by examples.
