  • We divide the timeline of the history of Finsler geometry, which dates back to Riemann's inaugural lecture in 1854, into three periods (hibernation, hiatus, rebirth) and we study formation of Romanian Finsler school around Iasi, Romania during the hiatus period. We look for the history centered around Radu Miron who is a third generation geometer of Iasi University and the mathematical heritage there through five generations. We also investigate mathematical impact of T. Levi-Civita, D. Hilbert, ${\acute{E}}$ Cartan who are considered as top mathematicians at their time.

  • In this paper, we investigate the topology of complex Finsler manifolds. For a complex Finsler manifold (M, F), we introduce a certain condition on the Finsler metric F on M. This is a generalization of Kahler condition for the Hermitian metric. Under this condition, we can produce a Kahler metric on M. This enables us to use the usual techniques in the Kahler and Riemannian geometry. We show that if the holomorphic sectional curvature of $ M is\geqC^2>0\; for\; some\; c>o,\; then\; diam(M)\leq\frac{\pi}{c}$ and hence M is compact. This is a generalization of the Bonnet\`s theorem in the Riemannian geometry.

  • Biharmonic curves are a generalization of geodesics, with applications in elasticity theory and computer science. The paper proposes a first study of biharmonic curves in spaces with Finslerian geometry, covering the following topics: a deduction of their equations, specific properties and existence of non-geodesic biharmonic curves for some classes of Finsler spaces. Integration of the biharmonic equation is presented for two concrete Finsler metrics.

  • We establish some Hessian comparison theorems and volume comparison theorems for Riemann-Finsler manifolds under various line radial integral curvature bounds. As their applications, we obtain some results on first eigenvalue, Gromov pre-compactness and generalized Myers theorem for Riemann-Finsler manifolds under suitable line radial integral curvature bounds. Our results are new even in the Riemannian case.

  • The aim of the present paper is to establish an intrinsic generalization of Cartan connection in Finsler geometry. This connection is called the vertical recurrent Finsler connection. An intrinsic proof of the existence and uniqueness theorem for such connection is investigated. Moreover, it is shown that for such connection, the associated semi-spray coincides with the canonical spray and the associated nonlinear connection coincides with the Barthel connection. Explicit intrinsic expression relating this connection and Cartan connection is deduced. We also investigate some applications concerning the fundamental geometric objects associated with this connection. Finally, three important results concerning the curvature tensors associated to a special vertical recurrent Finsler connection are studied.

  • We consider the connections $\nabla$ on the Rizza manifold (M, J, L) satisfying ${\nabla}G=0\;and\;{\nabla}J=0$. Among them, we derive a Lichnerowicz connection from the Cart an connection and characterize it in terms of torsion. Generalizing Kahler condition in Hermitian geometry, we define a Kahler condition for Rizza manifolds. For such manifolds, we show that the Cartan connection and the Lichnerowicz connection coincide and that the almost complex structure J is integrable.

  • In view of solution to the Hilbert fourth problem, the present study engages to investigate the projectively flat special (𝛼, 𝛽)-metric and the generalised first approximate Matsumoto (𝛼, 𝛽)-metric, where 𝛼 is a Riemannian metric and 𝛽 is a differential one-form. Further, we concluded that 𝛼 is locally Projectively flat and have 𝛽 is parallel with respect to 𝛼 for both the metrics. Also, we obtained necessary and sufficient conditions for the aforementioned metrics to be locally projectively flat.

  • In this paper, we study the unicorn's Landsberg problem from an intrinsic point of view. Precisely, we investigate a coordinate-free proof of Numata's theorem on Landsberg spaces of scalar curvature. In other words, following the pullback approach to Finsler geometry, we prove that all Landsberg spaces of dimension n ≥ 3 of non-zero scalar curvature are Riemannian spaces of constant curvature.
