We perform a wideband radiated pulse coupling analysis of simple building structures using the finite-deference time-domain(FDTD) method. Toward this purpose, the building structures composed of concrete and window materials are assumed and we numerically model the electrical properties of each material. In this work, we apply a dispersive FDTD algorithm for the electromagnetic analysis of building structures and investigate their shielding effectiveness in the frequency range of 50 MHz to 1 GHz.
The proposed print antenna using Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) method is analyzed in this paper. A low radiation resistance and an ultra-wide band of this antenna are also presented. The propagation process of the reflected wave and the electric field distribution in the time domain are calculated in respectively. The antenna parameters are optimized for the maximum band width, return loss, input impedance, and radiation pattern in the frequency domain using Fourier transforming. The experimental bandwidth of the antenna is 1.85GHz~6.35GHz for the VSWR less than or equal to 2.0. The measured results are relatively in good agreement with the FDTD results. The proposed antenna can be applied to various applications such as UWB, broadcasting-network system.

We propose a dispersive finite-difference time domain(FDTD) algorithm suitable for the electromagnetic analysis of the human body. In this work, the dispersion relation of the human body is modeled by a quadratic complex rational function(QCRF), which leads to an accurate and efficient FDTD algorithm. Coefficients(involved in QCRF) for various human tissues are extracted by applying a weighted least square method(WLSM), referred to as the complex-curve fitting technique. We also presents the FDTD formulation for the QCRF-based dispersive model in detail. The QCRFbased dispersive model is significantly accurate and its FDTD implementation is more efficient than the counterpart of the Cole-Cole model. Numerical examples are used to show the validity of the proposed FDTD algorithm.

This paper presents a numerical dispersion relation for the two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain method based on the alternating-direction implicit time-marching scheme(2-D ADI-FDTD), which method has the potential to considerably reduce tile number of time iterations especially in case where the fine spatial lattice relative to the wavelength is used to resolve fine geometrical features. The proposed analytical relation for 2-D ADI-FDTD is compared with those relations in the Previous works. Through numerical tests, the dispersion equation of this work was shown as correct one for 2-D ADI-FDTD.

In this paper, Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method is used to analyze characteristics of the electromagnetically coupled broadband microstrip antenna, and to optimize the antenna parameters. By using short tuning stub in feedline, electromagnetically coupled microstrip antenna shows broadband (approximatcly equal 13%) characteristics, and the characteristics are varied as a function of length, width, and position of the tuning stub. Operating frequency, return loss, VSWR and input impedance are calculated by Fourier transforming the time domain results. Measurement data from fabricated electromagnetically coupled microstrip antenna are compared with FDTD results and are shown to be in good agreement. After optimization of the parameters, maximum bandwidth of about 15% is achieved.
Recently many sinkholes have appeared in urban areas of Korea, threatening public safety. To predict the occurrence of sinkholes, it is necessary to investigate the existence of cavity under urban roads. Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) has been recognized as an effective means for detecting underground cavity in urban areas. In order to improve the understanding of the governing physical processes associated with GPR wave propagation, and interpret underground cavity effectively, a theoretical approach using numerical modeling is required. We have developed an algorithm employing a three-dimensional (3D) staggered-grid finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. This approach allows us to model the full electromagnetic wavefield associated with GPR surveys. We examined the GPR response for a simple cavity model, and the modeling results showed that our 3D FDTD modeling algorithm is useful to assess the underground cavity under urban roads.

Analyzing electromagnetic properties in plasma medium, it is difficult to numerically solve electromagnetic problem with thin plasma. In this paper, subcell Maxwell-Boltzmann FDTD method was proposed which is combined with Maxwell-Boltzmann FDTD and subcell FDTD method for analyzing plasma and electrically thin materials, respectively. Calculations of reflection coefficient and absorption rate error were performed by using 1D FDTD method. Reflection coefficient computed by applying the proposed method is in agreement with analytic solution. Absorption rate error analyzed by employing the proposed method is 1/10 times less than one by using conventional method.

The broadband input impedance, the input power and the radiation pattern of the monopole antenna attached to the handy phone operated at 800MHz are calculated by using the Finite Difference Time Domain(FDTD) Method. For the FDTD analysis of frequency characteristics of monopole antenna, the handy phone is modeled with the geometry that the monopole antenna is connected to a conducting box, and the modified FDTD algorithm[11] used the thin wire appproximation method and the Maxwell's integral equation from the original Yee algorithm is applied for the analysis of the wire structure. Also, by means of finding the current distribution directly from circumferencial magnetic filelds around the monopole antenna and the conducting box, the radiation pattern is calculated to observe the influence of the conducting box, and is compared with the results of the known mothod for the FDTD calculation of radiation pattern, For the experiments, the handy phone of which full length including antenna is .lambda. $\lambda$/2 is manufactured and we confirm that all computation results are agree well with the mea- sured values.

The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is applied to analyze a single step microstrip discontinuity in the substrate, and an equivalent circuit model comprised of two inductors and a capacitor has been developed using the numerical results. The microstrip discontinuity newly introduced in this paper has a thickness change of the substrate in the longitudinal direction with a uniform strip width. The discontinuity can be applied to the feeding circuit design for the patch antennas and interconnections between microwave circuit modules. The simulation results are compared with those computed by HFSS, and two results showed a good agreement. An equivalent circuit developed from the FDTD results, which is accurate within 2.4% in magnitudes of $S_{11}$ and $S_{21}$,can be applied for the computer-aided design of microwave circuits.
In this paper, we propose a new antenna, which has wide bandwidth, good radiation patterns, and high-gain characteristics. We analysis the antenna using FDTD(Finite Difference Time Domain) method. And the antenna parameters are optimized to get maximum bandwidth. From the measured results, the bandwidth of the antenna is 0.839 octave, for the S11${\leq}$-10 dB. And the measured cross polarization level of the proposed antenna is less than -25 dB at the center frequency. Experimental data of the return loss and the radiation pattern of the proposed antenna are also presented, and the experimental bandwidth characteristics are relatively in good agreement with the FDTD results. The proposed antenna can be applied to MIMO, LAN, biomedical instruments, broadcasting-network system.
