분무성형법에 의해 제조된 $Al-SiC)_p$ 금속기 복합재료의 미세조직과 성질에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Microstructures and Properties of $Al-SiC)_p$ Metal Matrix Composites Fabricated by Spray Forming Process)

  • 6061Al-SiCP metal matrix composite materials(MMCs) were fabricated by injecting SiCP particles directly into the atomized spray. The main attraction of this technique is the rapid fabrication of semi-finished, composite products in a combined atomization, particulate injection(10 $\mu\textrm{m}$, 40 $\mu\textrm{m}$, SiCP) and deposition operation. Conclusions obtained are as follows; The microstructure of the unreinforced spray formed 6061Al alloy consisted of relatively fine(50 $\mu\textrm{m}$) equiaxed grains. By comparision, the microstructure of the I/M materials was segregated and consisted of relatively coarse(150 $\mu\textrm{m}$) grains. The probability of clustering of SiCP particles in co-sprayed metal matrix composites increased it ceramic particle size(SiCP) was reduced and the volume fraction was held constant. Analysis of overspray powders collected from the spray atomization and deposition experiments indicated that morphology of powders were nearly spherical and degree of powders sphercity was deviated due to composite with SiCp particles. Interfacial bonding between matrix and ceramics was improved by heat treatment and addition of alloying elements(Mg). Maximum hardness values [Hv: 165 kg/mm2 for Al-10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ SiCp Hv--159 kg/mm2 for Al-40 $\mu\textrm{m}$SiCp] were obtained through the solution heat treatment at $530^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs and aging at $178^{\circ}C$, and there by the resistance were improved.

MnO2 as an Effective Sintering Aid for Enhancing Piezoelectric Properties of (K,Na)NbO3 Ceramics

  • The effects of $MnO_2$ doping on the crystal structure, ferroelectric, and piezoelectric properties of (K,Na)$NbO_3$ (KNN) ceramics have been investigated. $MnO_2$ was found to be effective in enhancing the densification and grain growth during sintering. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that Mn ions substituted B-site Nb ions up to 2 mol%, however, further doping induced unwanted secondary phases. In comparison with undoped KNN ceramics, the well developed microstructure and the substitution to B-sites in 2 mol% Mn-doped KNN ceramics resulted in significant improvements in both piezoelectric coupling coefficient and electromechanical quality factor.

Fabrication of $(La, Sr)MO_3$ (M=Mn or Co)/YSZ Nanocomposite Thin Film Electrodes for the Exhaust Gas Purification by a Chemically-Modified Sol-Gel Process

  • $>LaMnO_3$$(La, Sr)MO_3$, and $(La, Sr)MO_3/YSZ$ gel films were deposited by spin-coating technique on scandium-doped zirconia (YSZ) substrate using the precursor solution prepared from $La(O-i-C_3H_7)_3$, $Co(CH_3COO)_2$or $Mn(O-i-C_3H_7)_2$,2-methoxyethanol, and polyethylene glycol. By heat-treating the gel films, the electrochemical cells, $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ were fabricated. The effect of polyethylene glycol on the microstructure evolution of $$LaCoO_3and $LaMnO_3$thin films was investigated, and NOx decomposition characteristics of the electrochemical cells were investigated at $500^{\circ}C$ to $600^{\circ}C$. By applying a direct current to the $(La, Sr)MnO_3{\mid}ScSZ{\mid}Pt$ electrochemical cell, good NOx conversion rate could be obtained relatively at low current value even if excess oxygen is included in the reaction gas mixture.

  • 고기능성 전자재료용 TiO$_2$분말 및 박막제조에 사용되는 중간생성물인 TiCl$_4$는 99% 이상의 고순도가 요구된다. 고순도.미립의 TiO$_2$분말 및 TiCl$_4$는 황산법으로 제조한 저순도 TiO$_2$원료를 사용하여 염소화법으로 Ti-염화물 및 염화불순물로 제조한 후, 대부분의 염화불순물들은 3단계 과정을 거쳐 고순화 하였다. 대부분의 염화불순물은 분리.응축 및 분별증류로, VOCl$_3$는 mineral oil을 첨가하여 비등점을 변화시켜, 그리고 미량의 염화불순물은 열가수분해하여 침전시킨 후 유기용제 처리하여 제거하였다. 유기용제 처리는 TiO$_2$분말의 고순도화에 도움이 되었으며, 입자간의 응집을 적게 하여 TiO$_2$입자크기도 작아졌다. 또한 anatase에서 rutile 결정구조로의 전이온도도 낮아지는 부수적인 효과를 보였다.

Hybrid Sol을 이용한 박막 유전체 제작 (Fabrication of Thin Film Dielectric by Hybrid Sol)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the thin fihn dielectric made of hybrid sol, which consist of barium titanate powder, polymeric sol and other polymers. This sol will be used dielectric applied to small, thin electric passive components such as MLCC(Multi Layer Ceramic Condenser), resister, inductor. This sol is composed of mixed fine barium titanate powder and polymeric sol including Ba, Ti-precursor, solvent, chelating agent, chemical reaction catalyst, the additive sols to improve fired densification and temperature reliability. First at all, we mixed hybrid sol to be dispersed and be stabilized by ball milling for 24hrs. By spin coating method, we makes thin film dielectric on the convectional green sheet for MLCC. After heat treatments, we analyzes the structure morphology, physical, electrical properties and X5R Temperature properties.

Al-4at.%Zr합금의 기계적합금화 공정과 열처리과정에서 발생하는 상변화거동 (Phase Transformation in Al-4at.%Zr Alloy during Mechanical Alloying and Heat-treatment Processes)

  • Four different mechanical alloying(MA) processes were employed to fabricate very fine intermetallic compound $Al_3Zr$ particles dispersed Al composite materials(MMC) with Al-4at.%Zr composition. Phase transformations including phase stability during MA and heat treatment processes were investigated. Part of Zr atoms were dissolved into Al matrix and part of them reacted with hydrogen produced by decomposition of PCA(methanol) to form hydride $ZrH_2$ during first MA process. These $ZrH_2$ hydrides disappeared when alloy powders were heat treated at $500^{\circC}$. Stable $Al_3Zr$ dispersoids with $DO_23$ structure were formed by heat treating the mechanically alloyed powders at $400^{\circC}$. On the other hand, metastable $Al_3Zr$dispersoids with $L1_2$ structure were formed during first MA of powers with Al-25at.%Zr composition. These metastable $Al_3Zr$ dispersoids transformed to stable $Al_3Zr$ with $DO_23$ structure when heat treated above $450^{\circC}$.

Spark Plasma Sintering Behavior of Binderless WC Powders

  • Pure WC powders which does not include a binder phase were consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process at 1600~185$0^{\circ}C$ for 0~30 min under 50 MPa. Microstructure alid mechanical properties of binderless WC prepared by SPS were investigated. With increasing sintering temperature, sintered density and Vickers hardness of binderless WC increased. The fracture toughness of binderless WC was 7~15 MPa $m^{1/2}$ depending on the sintered density and decreased with increasing the Vickers hardness. It is found that the binderless WC prepared by SPS at 175$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 min under 50 MPa showed nearly full densification with fine-grained structure and revealed excellent mechanical properties of high hardness (~HV 2400) and considerably high fracture toughness (~7 MPa $m^{1/2}$).

  • 발수제의 유무와 알루미늄분말의 분말도 및 첨가량을 조절하여 비중을 0.4에서 0.7로 변화시켜 비중과 ALC의 기초물성, 내동해성 및 내구성과의 관계를 조사하였다. 압축 및 인장강도는 비중이 0.4에서 0.7로 증가함에 따라 발수제의 첨가량에 관계없이 증가하였고 발수제의 첨가량이 증가하면 내동해성은 개선되었으며 흡수율은 감소하였다. 입경이 작은 AI분말을 이용항 제조한 ALC의 박리에 의한 체적감소율은 낮게 나타났으며 일면동결지속시험 및 기중동결수중융해시험에서도 내동해성이 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Optimization of Barium Titanate Slip for Tape Casting Using Design of Experiments

  • A full-factorial design of experiments with three input factors and two levels for each factor including center points was utilized for the preparation and characterization of twelve types of $BaTiO_3$ slips for tape casting. Ceramic powders with different particle sizes, different milling methods such as high energy milling and conventional ball milling, and two types of dispersant with different polymeric species were chosen as input factors in order to investigate their effects on slip and on green tape properties. Tape casting, a small rectangular-shaped K-square preparation, characterization and quantitative data analysis using statistical software were followed. Ceramic powder was the most significant among three input factors for the output responses of slip viscosity and green tape density, showing more favorable results with large particles than with very fine ones. In addition, high energy milling for only 30 min was more efficient than 24h of conventional ball milling in terms of powder dispersion and milling. The optimum condition based on the experimental results was a slip exposed to high energy milling with large ceramic particles along with a methylethyl acetate dispersant.

저수축 반응소결 알루미나/지르코니아 복합체의 제조 (The Fabrication of Low Shrinkage, Reaction-Bonded Alumina/Zirconia Composite)

  • The attrition-milled powder mixtures of Al and Al2O3 were oxidized below 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr and post-sintered at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. During attrition milling, ZrO2 was added to the system by grinding effect of ZrO2 balls. The average particle size of the powder mixtures was decreased by the attrition milling as the aluminum content decrease. Above 120$0^{\circ}C$, sintering behaviro was observed on the fine Al2O3 particles resulted from the oxidation of Al. The specimens heat-treated at 140$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr showed the bending strength of 166 MPa and hardness of 220 MPa. The specimens post-sintered at 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2hr had a linear shrinkage of 9~12% and a relative density of about 95%. After the post-sintering, the specimens having 55 vol% Al content revealed the bending strength of 513 MPa and hardness of 718 MPa. The Weibull modulus to the bending strength was about 16.
