초등 과학영재와 일반 학생의 과학탐구문제 발견 능력에 대한 비교 (A Comparison of Science Inquiry Problem Finding Ability of Gifted Elementary Students of Science and General Elementary Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the science inquiry problem finding ability of gifted elementary students of science and general elementary students. For this purpose, this study analyzed the types of science inquiry problems in an ill-structured problem finding situation. Also, this study has compared science inquiry problem finding abilities of those two groups. From the results of this study, new ways of improving student' science inquiry problem finding ability and selection of gifted students of science were suggested. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, most of the inquiry problems generated by the scientifically gifted and the general students in an ill-structured problem situation could be categorized into seven types (measurement, method, cause, possibility, what, comparison, relationship) according to the inquiry objectives, and both group found more problems in scientific context than in everyday context. Regardless of the context of problem, scientifically gifted students found more problems and the type of problems generated by them were more various than those of general students. Second, there were differences in problem finding ability between scientifically gifted and general students. Scientifically gifted students found more problems and the quality of problems were higher than general students.

초등학교 아동의 과학적 문제 발견 능력에 영향을 미치는 관련 변인에서의 남녀 차이 (Gender Differences in the Factors Affecting Elementary School Students' Ability to Identify Scientific Problems)

  • This study investigated gender differences in the factors affecting elementary school students' ability to identify scientific problems. Scientific problem finding tasks, involving written instruments including IQ tests, content knowledge, science process skills, divergent thinking skills, intrinsic/extrinsic motivation, personality traits, and home environment were administered to 96 elementary school students(male; 50 & female: 46). The data collected was analyzed by means of a t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and canonical correlation analysis. The finding indicated that there were significant gender differences in scientific problem finding performance. Female students were significantly higher in both total score and elaborate score of scientific problem finding than male students. Personality traits and intrinsic motivation positively and extrinsic motivation negatively predicted male students' abilities in scientific problem finding. Science process skills, personality traits and intrinsic motivation positively and extrinsic motivation negatively predicted female students' scientific problem finding and IQ positively predicted female students' elaborate score of scientific problem finding.

APPLICATION OF LINEAR PROGRAMMING FOR SOLVING FUZZY TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS

  • There are several methods, in the literature, for finding the fuzzy optimal solution of fully fuzzy transportation problems (transportation problems in which all the parameters are represented by fuzzy numbers). In this paper, the shortcomings of some existing methods are pointed out and to overcome these shortcomings, a new method (based on fuzzy linear programming formulation) is proposed to find the fuzzy optimal solution of unbalanced fuzzy transportation problems with a new representation of trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The advantages of the proposed method over existing method are discussed. Also, it is shown that it is better to use the proposed representation of trapezoidal fuzzy numbers instead of existing representation of trapezoidal fuzzy numbers for finding the fuzzy optimal solution of fuzzy transportation problems. To illustrate the proposed method a fuzzy transportation problem (FTP) is solved by using the proposed method and the obtained results are discussed. The proposed method is easy to understand and to apply for finding the fuzzy optimal solution of fuzzy transportation problems occurring in real life situations.

  • The previous empirical research suggests that problem finding is more important than problem solving in the creative process. Problem finding is increasingly recognized in theories of creativity. In spite of the importance of problem finding, there is little research to explain problem finding in Korea. This article reviews the research about problem finding and examines the nature of problem finding, the type of problems, the relation of problem finding and problem solving, the relation of problem finding and creativity, and the serendipity. Finally, theoretical and educational implications are discussed.

전시 최단수송경로 선정 (Determination of the Shortest Transportation Path in Wartime)

  • In transportation network problems, it is often desirable to select multiple number of the shortect paths. On problems of finding these paths, algorithms have been developed to choose single shortest path, k-shortest paths and k-shortest paths via p-specified nodes in a network. These problems consider the time as the main factor. In wartime, we must consider availability as well as time to determine the shortest transportation path, since we must take into account enemy's threat. Therefore, this paper addresses the problem of finding the shortest transportation path considering both time and availability. To accomplish the objective of this study, values of k-shortest paths are computed using the algorithm for finding the k-shortest paths. Then availabilties of those paths are computed through simulation considering factors such as rates of suffering attack, damage and repair rates of the paths. An optimal path is selected using any one of the four decision rules that combine the value and availability of a path.

장기요양 노인환자의 노인전문요양시설 입소를 결정한 돌봄제공자의 경험 (Family Caregivers' Experiences Utilizing a Nursing Home for Their Elderly Family Members)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the experiences of the family caregivers using a nursing home for their elderly family members. Method: Participants for this study were 1 man and 9 women caregivers. Data was collected through in-depth interviews from October, 2005 to April, 2006 and analyzed using Strauss and Corbin's grounded theory methodology. Results: "Finding a way to live together" emerged as a core category and it reflected expanding consciousness allowing them to see each other in a more positive view. The basic social process of "finding a way to live together" includes 3 phases: 1) recognizing the problems, 2) finding solutions to the problems, and 3) accepting the changes in their surrounding. Lack of privacy, family troubles, extreme distress, and unavailable caregivers are reflected in the process of recognizing the problems. The process of finding solutions was making a decision, obtaining family agreement, choosing the best nursing home, and enduring the financial burden. Possible outcomes of the last phase include recovering peace of mind and continuing conflict. Conclusion: Findings from this study offer suggestions for developing a strategy to help not only the elderly but also the family caregivers.

STEAM 문제 상황에서 중등 영재반 학생들이 나타낸 문제의 발견과 해결 특성 (Features of Problem-Finding and Problem-Solving of the Secondary Gifted Students in the Context of STEAM Convergent Problems)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 STEAM 융합적 문제 상황에 대하여 중등영재반별로 나타내는 문제발견과 문제해결 능력의 특성을 알아보는데 있다. 이를 위해 STEAM 융합적 문제해결력 검사지를 사용하여 중등영재반별로 문제의 발견과 문제해결 과정에 작성한 활동지, 산출물 등을 정량적 및 정성적으로 비교·분석하였다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 제시한 문제해결력 검사지가 지닌 전공 특수성이 문항에 대한 선호도와 문제를 발견하는 양상에 영향을 미침을 알 수 있었다. 둘째, 영재반별로 특정 과제에 대해 영재반에 따른 문제의 발견과 문제의 해결 능력의 차이를 보이는 것이 아니라 모둠별로 차이를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, STEAM 융합적 문제 상황에서 문제의 발견과 문제해결에 전공 영역보다 개별 창의성과 모둠의 협력적 창의성이 더 크게 작용했음을 알 수 있었다. 본 연구결과에 의하면 문제의 발견과 문제해결력 평가에서 영재 학생들의 정의적 요인과 협력의 개념을 포함할 필요가 있고, 집단 창의성이 잘 발휘될 수 있도록 협력적 문제해결능력을 향상시킬 수 있는 교수·학습 전략을 개발할 필요가 있음을 시사한다.

미래문제해결 프로그램이 창의성과 과학적 태도에 미치는 효과 (Effects of Future Problem Solving Program on Creativity and Scientific Attitude)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Future Problem Solving Program on creativity and scientific attitude. For this study the 4 grade, 2 class was divided into a research group and a comparative group. The class was pre-tested in order to ensure the same standard. The research group had the science class with FPSP, and the comparative group had the class with teacher centered lectures for 9 classes in 10 weeks. The FPSP was focused on finding problems, finding key problems, creating solutions, selecting the standard of judgement, making alternative solutions, and learning creative steps of solutions consisting of development of action planning. To prove the effects of this study, creativity was split up according to fluency, originality, abstractness, accuracy, and openness. Also, scientific attitude consisted of honesty, patience, curiosity, preparedness, autonomy, criticism, and openness. The results of this study are as follows. First, the science class with FPSP with finding problems, finding key problems, and creating solutions had the effect of developing the scientific creativity; fluency, originality, abstractness of the title, accuracy, and openness. Second, the FPSP had the effect of developing the scientific attitude. Students made ideas and solved the problems through divergent thinking and convergent thinking. During the class it had the effect of developing the scientific attitude; honesty, patience, curiosity, preparedness, autonomy, criticism, and openness. As a result, the elementary science class with FPSP had the effects of developing scientific creativity and scientific attitude. It means the science class with FPSP has potential possibilities and value to develop scientific creativity and scientific attitude.

낮게 구조화된 과학적 문제 상황에서 고등학생들의 문제발견 활동 분석 (An Analysis of High School Students' Activity on Problem-finding in III-structured Scientific Problem Situation)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 과학적 문제발견 능력을 신장시키기 위한 수업 방향을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 연구 대상자들은 협동 활동과 개별 활동을 통해 낮게 구조화된 과학적 문제 상황에서의 문제발견 과제를 수행하였으며, 문제발견 활동에 대한 심층적인 분석을 하였다. 분석 결과, 협동 문제발견 활동은 '문제 상황 탐색', '기존 지식 및 경험 표출', '잠정적 문제의 적절성 논의', '다양한 문제 생성', '최선의 문제 선택'의 다섯 단계를 거치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 협동 문제발견 활동은 기존 지식이나 직간접 경험에 크게 의존하며, 문제 상황과 관련된 다양한 과학적 개념이 자연스럽게 표출되는 것으로 나타났다. 협동 활동을 통해 발견된 문제에 대한 창의성 요소 점수와 독창적 문제선택에 대한 일치 정도는 대체로 높은 편으로 나타났다. 또한 열린 문제 상황에서 발견된 문제의 유형이 닫힌 상황보다 더 다양한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학생들은 문제발견 활동이 과학적 개념이나 사고력 및 탐구 능력을 신장시키는데 긍정적인 영향을 준 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 따라서 교사는 첫째, 문제발견에 필요한 지식이나 정보를 탐색할 수 있는 교육적 환경을 조성해야 한다. 둘째, 과학 지식과 경험의 폭을 넓힐 수 있는 다양한 기회를 제공해야 한다. 셋째, 학생들의 지식과 경험을 자유롭게 표출할 수 있는 수업 분위기를 조성해야 한다.
