  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the drinking culture and attitude difference by gender and grade of Korean college students. A questionnaire was conducted to analyze the characteristics and meaningful differences by two variables about drinking pattern, culture and related policies. The analysis showed that regardless of gender, far more students were against than in favor of prohibition on drinking within campus, whose legislation recently failed. Meanwhile, there was a significant difference by grade in victimization experience regarding drinking within the campus, and by gender in frequency, beverage type, volume, onset of drinking within school. There was no statistically significant gender-based difference in response to experience of damage caused by drinking, but the research results of the related papers show that the female students are more dangerous and need special attention and care. Universities should implement a professional counseling program that is customized according to gender or level of education, and managed by group. Moreover, health authorities must seek a way to lead this move, such as providing incentives to the universities, which efficiently deal with students' drinking problem. And the prohibition on drinking within campus, whose legislation recently failed should be reconsidered.

  • In this study, mathematics education program was developed for the foreign students who entered the science and engineering college of Korea in order to improve their basic competency and to prevent dropouts. It is applied to 5 Chinese students, 4 male students and 1 female student. Three students are majoring in engineering college and two students are majoring in natural science college. Before applying the mathematics education program to foreign students, most students did not draw a graph of the 'irrational function' and the 'exponential function' and did not understand the concept of the 'limit' at all. However, after applying the mathematics program, all foreign students were able to draw graphs of the various function and the limit values were calculated accurately. Through the results of this study, the researcher proposes some of the following. When developing mathematics education programs for foreign students, it is very important to develop teaching materials suitable for their level. Textbook developers need to select and organize contents that are essential for learning in university mathematics and to present mathematical concepts and examples considering the Korean language level of foreign students. Moreover, it will be necessary to try to present mathematical terms commonly used in Korea in their native language or English.

  • In spite that spatial ability has been recognized as an important element of academic achievement in engineering studies, researches on the topic are rather limited in Korea. In this study, the relationship between spatial visualization skill and academic achievement of engineering students was investigated based on the several variables such as gender, high school education background and college course achievement. The result showed that there were significant relevance between spatial visualization skill and gender, high school type, achievement of high school level math & physics, and college course work grade of computer graphic and capstone design. According the case study, from the entry time of engineering college, support programs to reinforce spatial visualization skill are required for lower skill groups such as female and graduate from art course in high school. Also, college curriculum such as Engineering graphics, Capstone design are substantial to improve spatial visualization skill. However, more diversified sample groups and research methods are required in order to draw in depth results.

  • This study investigated difference of product interest and its relation to consumers' innate innovativeness according to gender as well as compared the perceptive construct of products between male and female consumers. A survey involving male and female college students was conducted in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas in December 2013. Subsequently, 400 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlations, independent sample t-test, reliability analysis, ANCOVA, and multidimensional scaling. Among 45 products, male respondents showed a significantly high degree of interest over 12 categories such as watches, desktop computers, cars, sports products, and video games compared to females. The female sample showed a significantly high degree of interest for 29 product categories such as clothing, movies, skin care shops, cosmetics, eating-out, teeth whitening, coffee, cameras, and performances compared to males. Innovative male consumers were interested in traveling, movies, clothing, eating-out, running shoes, and wallets; however, female consumers' innovativeness was significantly related to previously determined items of interest. Two dimensions explaining the male consumers' products perception construct were 'hard versus soft' and 'usual versus special'. Instead, female consumers' were 'special versus usual' and 'expressive versus functional'.

  • This research was conducted to improve the image of female emergency workers in a fire service organization by studying the perception trends of the increasing number of female paramedics. This human resource can be utilized more effectively by using the study results as baseline data. We conducted a survey from May 1 to June 30, 2013. The survey was analyzed using Q methodology and the program QUANL. For the Q sample, 31 emergency rescue paramedic students who had experienced ambulance field education were selected. As a result, four types of female paramedics were found; "superwoman," "hero" (who pushes against limits of stamina), "delicate guardian angel," and "skillful desk worker." The explanation powers were as follows: type I: 42.2%; type II: 4.8%; type III: 4%; and type IV: 3.6%. The sum of the figures explained 54.7% of the total variables. Generally, the students recognized female paramedics as professionals, but physical strength, baby care, and caring were considered as burdens. This requires changes in the organization's perception of female paramedics and an institutional strategy.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine differences between male and female in heart rate due to 93% oxygen administration of the three levels (1L/min, 3L/min, and 5L/min). Ten healthy male (25.0$\pm$1.8years) and ten female (23.7$\pm$1.9years) college students were selected as the subjects for this study. The experiment consisted of three runs, i.e., the three levels of 93% oxygen administration, respectively. The each run consisted of three phases, i.e., Rest 1 (5min), Hyperoxia (10min), and Rest 2 (5min). Heart rate was measured throughout the three phases. Heart rate was decreased during hyperoxia compared to Rest 1 and 2. By increasing the supply rate of highly concentrated oxygen, ${\Delta}1$ (decreasing rate of heart rate during hyperoxia compared to Rest 1) was increased. And ${\Delta}2$ (decreasing rate of heart rate during hyperoxia compared to Rest 2) of male was lower than female, regardless of supply rate.

  • The purpose of this study is to do research on correlation between multiple intelligence and e-Learning strategy, which can be used to develop and strengthen e-Learning strategy. The subject was 183 college students of engineering at C university who had ever taken a lesson through e-Learning. Two items are investigated in these college students. One is whether there is a gap and any gender-related difference in multiple intelligence and e-Learning strategy, and the other is what multiple intelligences have an effect on e-Learning strategy. The e-Learning strategy developed by In-Sock Lee and the instrument by Yong-Lin Moon were used. The results of this study are as follows. First, it appeared that there was a difference between gender in musical intelligence and naturalistic intelligence. The average of musical intelligence was higher in female collegian, while the average of naturalistic intelligence was higher in male collegian. But there was no gender-related difference in using e-Learning strategy. Second, it appeared that multiple intelligence gave an explanation of self-direction intelligence up to 31.1%, expression strategy 20.35%, and information processing strategy 16.6%. The results of this study showed that logical-mathematical intelligence affected all of three e-Learning strategies. So, new curriculum which can make use of logical-mathematical intelligence needs to be developed so as to devise efficient e-Learning strategies.

  • In this study, changes in memory performance, blood oxygen saturation and heart rate according to 30% concentration oxygen supply were observed. Ten healthy male and female college students (male:$25.8{\pm}0.8$ years, female: $24.2{\pm}1.9$ years) participated in the study. The experiment was performed as Rest (1min.), Control task (1min.), Word presentation (1min.), Reaction time task (1min.), Distractor (2min.), and Word recall (1min.) and the physiological signals such as blood oxygen saturation and heart rate were measured throughout the stages. Subjects who received 30% oxygen recalled more words than those who received 21% oxygen, which shows 30% oxygen supply has influenced positively on memory cognitive performance. When 30% concentration oxygen is supplied, the blood oxygen saturation in the task phases was increased and the heart rate decreased when comparing to 21%. It means that 30% oxygen can stimulate brain activation by increasing actual blood oxygen concentration in the process of cognitive performance, and the heart rate decreases because enough oxygen is supplied to process the cognitive performance.
