The Relationship between Feelings of Accomplishment and Life Satisfaction of the Elderly: Mediating Effect of Satisfaction with Personal Relationship (노인의 성취감과 삶의 만족의 관계: 대인관계 만족의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the mediating effects of satisfaction with personal relationship in the relationship between feelings of accomplishment and life satisfaction of the elderly. For this, 9,526 older persons aged over 65 years among respondents of 2023 Social Survey data were analyzed. Study results showed that first, feelings of accomplishment of the elderly had positive effects on life satisfaction. That is, higher level of feelings of accomplishment increased the level of life satisfaction. Second, satisfaction with personal relationship of the elderly had positive effects on life satisfaction. That is, higher level of satisfaction with personal relationship increased the level of life satisfaction. Third, satisfaction with personal relationship had significant mediating effect in the relationship between feelings of accomplishment and life satisfaction of the elderly. That is, higher level of feelings of accomplishment increased the level of satisfaction with personal relationship, leading to increased level of life satisfaction. Results of this study show that there is a need to develop interventions to increase satisfaction with personal relationship and life satisfaction by expanding opportunities for having feelings of accomplishment of the elderly.

Determining Emotional Effects of Pet Plants Through Analysis of Daily Gardening Records (가드닝 일지 분석을 통한 반려식물이 정서면에 미치는 효과)

  • This study aims to measure the emotional effects of pet plants, which have become popular in recent years. A questionnaire regarding perceptions of these indoor plants was administered to 78 university students. Thirty of these students took care of two species of pet plants for 90 days, and the emotional effects of this exercise were determined based on the type of words used in their daily records. The questionnaire results showed that the general recognition of emotional effects was low, though awareness of the term "pet plants" was high. However, after gardening for 90 days, participants began to consider their pet plants friends or family members, noting feelings of affection and sympathy in their daily writeups. These participants also experienced positive changes in their emotional well-being, including feelings of joy, hope, relaxation, confidence, and accomplishment. This study argues that pet plants can have positive effects on emotional stability and suggests that their adoption would be beneficial to humanity at large.

Effect of Emotional Labor on the Burnout and Organizational Commitment among Flight Attendants (항공사 승무원의 감성노동이 소진과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among the emotional labor, burnout, and organizational commitment in airline context. In this study, 2 hypotheses based on literature reviews were employed. Questionnaire was also developed based on previous studies. A convenience sample of 163 flight attendants was surveyed and 153 usable questionnaires were analyzed. According to the literature review, emotional labor was divided into 'surface acting' and 'deep acting'. Burnout, on the other hand, was categorized into the following variables: 'emotional exhaustion', 'depersonalization' and 'reduced feelings of personal accomplishment' accordingly. Then the data and hypotheses were examined using structural equation modeling (SEM) by AMOS. The results are as follows. Firstly, emotional labor has no effect on 'emotional exhaustion' while emotional labor has negative effects on 'depersonalization' and 'reduced feelings of personal accomplishment'. Secondly, 'depersonalization' and 'reduced feelings of personal accomplishments'' factor have negative effects on organizational commitment while 'emotional exhaustion' has no effect on organizational commitment. Continuous and systematic training should be conducted to administer 'emotional labor'. Consulting system should also be conducted to reduce burnout and systematic procedure is also needed to induce positive results from burnout.

Phenomenological Research on the Experience of Weight Control Among Nursing Students (간호학생의 체중조절 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to discover the essence and the structure of the experiences of weight control by nursing students. Methods: Participants were 12 nursing students who had tried losing weight at C university in Busan, Korea. The data were collected from June 17 to August 6, 2006. For the purpose of this study, focus group discussions and in depth interviews were employed. Results: The collected data were analyzed by using Giorgi's method. As the results of the analysis, the following four components of experience were derived: My appearance looked abnorml; Measures for self-realization; Pursuit of my own way only; Feelings of accomplishment and self confidence. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an effective weight control program with minimized side effects that are harmful to health, based on the components of the nursing students' experiences in weight control that were identified in this study.

  • The purpose of this study is to illuminate the influence happened by the process of acquirement of professional cooking skills related to satisfaction with duty of hotel cooks according to the development and expansion of the food service industry. First, interaction with colleagues, working environment, accomplishment of duty, satisfaction of duty etc. have a big effect on improvement of cooking skills, that is, acquirement and accumulation of cooking skill. Therefore, it's confirmed that improvement of skill can be promoted if we focus on this kind of factors and meet more positively. Second, field education training should be operated professionally with systematic education training. Third, duty rotation has an effect on skill advancement. It can be interpreted that oppressive feelings caused by ability, skill, knowledge, human relations etc. which is required in new business related to frequent change of the business in one's charge can have an effect on duty satisfaction. It's considered that comprehensive and in-depth study should be accomplished in future concerning duty rotation, field training.

  • Facebook has quickly infused across cultures worldwide to become a common household term for diverse spectra of netizens, especially youngsters. Inherently, interactive in nature, Facebook provides a common cyber enabled platform for online interactions with social friends, living across the world. However, despite its merits, users also experience certain disadvantages, which include but are not limited to rise in feelings of social comparison, decline in self-esteem, contentment and general subjective well-being. This work aims to determine the role of Facebook in spreading envy and identify factors that trigger such emotions. Due to abductive nature of the study, we used pilot interviews and consulted relevant literature to formulate hypotheses. Further, we used deductive approach and conducted a survey. The results showed that frequent use of Facebook, particularly passive following is main predictor of envy, and social interaction is the biggest cause for development of envious feelings in Facebook users. However, insignificant variation was found while investigating relationship between envy and factors, such as pretentiousness, time spent, accomplishment, everything in life, likes on posts, popularity across genders, marital status and genre.

The Clinical Experiences of Newly-qualified nurses (신규 간호사의 임상 경험)

  • Purpose: This phenomenological study is aimed at illuminating the lived experiences of newly-qualified nurses who working in general hospitals in C province. Method: The data was collected through unstructured, in-depth interviews with 10 new nurses from April to June 2001, and analysed by Colazzi' methodology. Results: Thematic content analysis identified 6 central themes in this experience-difficulties m making interpersonal relationship, negative feelings, fatigue and unskilled work performance, self-reflection, a sense of accomplishment, identity formation as a nurse. Also, this themes were constructed into 6 constructs explaining new nurses' experience. The results may contribute to a better understanding of what new nurses experienced and how their negative conflicts could be managed. Conclusion: New nurses need to get more education and supportive empowerment regarding diverse conflicts during training period. Educational programs like a preceptorship or individual counselling should be developed and adopted to all clinical settings.

A Study on the Effect of Students' Problem Solving Ability and Satisfactions in Woodworking Product Making Program Using Design Thinking (목공 제품 제작 활동에서 디자인 씽킹의 활용이 학생들의 만족도와 문제해결력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of problem solving ability and satisfaction of university students who are pre-technology teachers in woodworking products(birdhouse) making program using design thinking. Survey responses are analyzed by statistical programs(SPSS ver.20) such as satisfaction, confidence in problem solving, difficulties and causes of difficulties according to gender and grade of 33 students who conducted experience programs in extra-curricular programs to improve creativity and problem solving ability. The main conclusions of this study are as follows: First, the average of total satisfaction about experience programs is 4.39, which is somewhat high. The highest average response is 'feelings of accomplishment' and 'advice in the surroundings'(M = 4.46). There is no significant difference between male and female, and grade. The students interest in group-based different birdhouse woodworking together with the help of the surrounding people by the process of design thinking rather than practice to follow. Therefore, I'd like to recommend to other students due to this program shows a high self-confidence, sense of accomplishment, and satisfaction. Second, the total average response of students 'self-confidence for problem solving at the group based making experience program using design thinking is 3.80. In result of group activities, the students have self-confidence of 'problem-solving ability and deal with difficult situations'. Later, in making programs, complementing difficulties of making can enhance the satisfaction of the students. Third, in the survey questionnaire related with problem solving ability confidence, between 'I have the ability to solve many problems' and 'I always have the ability to cope with new and difficult business situations' show the highest correlation. Therefore, in order to improve self-confidence of problem solving ability, it is necessary to prepare teaching learning programs that can strengthen problem solving ability. Fourth, in the new design and making process not a given product design, the most difficult step is 'the process of rework and modifying idea product'. The main reason that students have difficulty in the production process is 'lack of knowledge and ability to produce'. To make various woodworking products using design thinking process, it can be helpful to make works if you have enough training on woodworking and design thinking before product making. The students' satisfaction about team-based learning using design thinking that helps improving creativity and problem solving ability is high. Therefore, the result of the research in other making activity program that design thinking is applied and analyzed can improve students' problem solving ability.
