  • A new stabilization scheme is proposed in which the local state feedback is utilized in each decentralized controller for large-scale interconnected systems. In the proposed scheme, the controller is designed in two steps. First, the feedback gain of each decentralized controller is temporarily chosen so that the eigenvalues of each isolated subsystem are placed at the desired locations in the complex plane. Secondly, the feedback gain of each controller is compensated so that the time derivative of the Lyapunov function candidate for the overall closed-loop system should be negative. A sufficient condition which assures the global system to stable is given.

  • In this paper, a state space solution to the discete time H$_{\infty}$ control problem is presented. It is shown that there exist LQ game problem corresponding to H$_{\infty}$ control problems and the H$_{\infty}$ controller can be obtained by solving the LQ game problem. Explicit state space formulae are given for the state feedback H$_{\infty}$ controller and output feedback H$_{\infty}$ controllers.lers. state feedback $H_{\infty}$ controller and output feedback $H_{\infty}$ controllers.

  • In process industries, more than 90% of the control loops have PID controller. Futhermore, the most control systems are using classical PID controllers for their process control. Various auto-tuning methods of PID gains using relay-feedback are presented recently. In order to get the desired control performance, the correct tuning of PID controller is very important. This paper suggests how to tune of digital PID gains using information for both the Nyquist critical point by conventional method and another point by the relay feedback and hidden time-delay term. Simulation results show that the proposed controller has better performance than the conventional method.

  • This paper considers guaranteed cost output feedback controller for the uncertain time-varying delay systems with delays in state and control input. The uncertainty in the system is assumed to be norm-bounded and time-varying. The sufficient condition for the existence of controller and the guaranteed cost output feedback controller design method are presented. Also, using some changes of variables and Schur complements, the obtained sufficient condition can be reformulated as LMI forms in terms of transformed variables. Using the obtained LMI variables, we derive guaranteed cost controller gain and guaranteed cost.

  • This paper reports the filtered velocity feedback (FVF) controller to reduce the acoustic power from clamped beams. The instability problem due to the non-collocated sensor/actuator configuration when using PZT actuator should be resolved. The roll-off property of the FVF controller at high frequency helps to alleviate the instability. The dynamics of clamped beams under forces and moments pair and the FVF controller are first formulated. The formulation of the sound radiated power is followed. The open loop transfer function (OLTF) synthesized with 100 modes is used to determine the stability of the control system. The control performance is finally estimated. The levels of the vibration and the sound radiated power are reduced in the wide band below the tuning mode of the FVF controller.

  • A new output feedback controller design approach for flexible-joint (FJ) robots via the observer dynamic surface design technique is presented. The proposed approach only requires the feedback of position states. We first design an observer to estimate the link and actuator velocity information. Then, the link position tracking controller using the observer dynamic surface design procedure is developed. Therefore, the proposed controller can be simpler than the observer backstepping controller. From the Lyapunov stability analysis, it is shown that all signals in a closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Finally, the simulation results of a three-link FJ robot are presented to validate the good position tracking performance of the proposed control system.

  • In this paper, the observer based nonlinear state feedback controller has been developed to control the pressures of the oxygen and the hydrogen in the PEM(Proton Exchange Membrane) fuel cell system. Nonlinear model of the PEM fuel cell system was introduced to study the design problems of the state observer and model based controller. A cascade observer using the filtering technique was used to estimate the pressure derivatives of the cathode and the anode in the system. In order to estimate the pressures of the cathode and the anode, the sliding mode observer was designed by using these pressure derivatives. To estimate the oxygen pressure and the hydrogen pressure in the system, the nonlinear state observer was designed by using the cathode pressure estimates and the anode it. These results will be very useful to design the state feedback controller. The validity of the proposed observers and the controller has been investigated by using the Lyapunov's stability analysis strategy.

  • This paper presents an approach to combine adaptive controller with feedback linearization, which extends the applicability of the adaptive controller to a wider class of systems. The adaptive controller guarantees the asymptotic tracking convergence and the transient performance of the tracking error. The feedback linearization transforms a nonlinear plant into a linear time invariant form. The asymptotic tracking convergence is shown by the use of Lyapunov stability analysis and Barbalat's lemma.

  • The spherical CVT, intended to overcome some of the limitations of existing CVT designs, is marked by its simple kinematic design, improved efficiency of the shift actuator, and IVT characteristics, i.e., the ability of smooth transition between the forward, neutral, and reverse states without the need for any brakes or clutches. And it has been promised much possibility of energy savings and various applications for small power capacity machinery. Due to the nonlinearity of the spherical CVT shifting dynamics, however the original open-loop system is inherently unstable. Hence a feedback controller is necessary to make the system stable and to achieve effective tracking performance. To do this, we designed a feedback controller that cancels nonlinearities and transforms the original nonlinear system dynamics into a stable and controllable linear one, based on the input-state linearization method.
