  • Direct-drive robots are suitable to position and force control with high accuracy, but it is difficult to design a controller which gives satisfactory perfonnance because of the system's nonlinearity and link-interactions. This paper is concerned with the force control of direct-drive robots. The pro¬posed algorithm consists of feedback controllers and a neural network. Mter the completion of learning, the outputs of feedback controllers are nearly equal to zero, and the neural network con¬troller plays an important role in the control system. Therefore, the optimum adjustment of parameters of feedback controllers is unnecessary. In other words, the proposed algorithm does not need any knowledge of the controlled system in advance. The effectiveness of the proposed algo¬rithm is demonstrated by the experiment on the force control of a parallelogram link-type direct¬drive robot.

  • The process controller in the adjustment procedure is often used effectively to control the process level close to target when noise is present and unremovable. Examples of the robust controller are single EWMA controller and double EWMA controller. Double EWMA controller is designed to reduce the offset of the process deviation, which single EWMA can not eliminate. In this paper, the two controllers are modified by taking EWMA of the original controller to reduce the adjustment variance, which may become excessively large when the two given controllers are implemented. It is shown that the EWMA modification of the given controllers is successful in reducing the adjustment variance, while the mean squared deviation increases slightly.

  • Existing current-controlled inverters with hysteresis controller (HC) result in the dependence of the inverter on its load characteristics, poor inverter utilization due to too much or too little supply voltage, and the current error in the hysteresis band(HB) which causes deterioration of operation of the supplied motor. In this paper, techniques and results of modeling the operation of current-controlled three phase power inverter with HC are presented. Four symmetrical control schemes are considered: the so called three independent control, three semi-dependent control(a), three semi-dependent control(b) and three dependent control each using three current controller. The dependence of the inverter on its load has been studied. To overcome this difficulty, an inner feedback control has been introduced and optimum parameter has been determined. With the addition of an inner feedback control, adjustment of the switching frequency to a desired value is possible. Also, this modification improves operating characteristics of inverter by enforcing a switching pattern of low dependence on the load, resulting in significantly improved quality of the output current.

  • Congestion control in Cluster Wireless Sensor Networks (CWSNs) has drawn widespread attention and research interests. The increasing number of nodes and scale of networks cause more complex congestion control and management. Active Queue Management (AQM) is one of the major congestion control approaches in CWSNs, and Random Early Detection (RED) algorithm is commonly used to achieve high utilization in AQM. However, traditional RED algorithm depends exclusively on source-side control, which is insufficient to maintain efficiency and state stability. Specifically, when congestion occurs, deficiency of feedback will hinder the instability of the system. In this paper, we adopt the Additive-Increase Multiplicative-Decrease (AIMD) adjustment scheme and propose an improved RED algorithm by using neighbor feedback and scheduling scheme. The congestion control model is presented, which is a linear system with a non-linear feedback, and modeled by Lur'e type system. In the context of delayed Lur'e dynamical network, we adopt the concept of cluster synchronization and show that the congestion controlled system is able to achieve cluster synchronization. Sufficient conditions are derived by applying Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals. Numerical examples are investigated to validate the effectiveness of the congestion control algorithm and the stability of the network.

  • The control of diamond turning is usually achieved through a laser-interferometer feedback of slide position. The limitation of this control scheme is that the feedback signal does not account for additional dynamics of the tool post and the material removal process. If the tool post is rigid and the material removal process is relatively static, then such a non-collocated position feedback control scheme may surfice. However, as the accuracy requirement gets tighter and desired surface contours become more complex, the need for a direct tool-tip sensing becomes inevitable. The physical constraints of the machining processprohibit any reasonable implementation of a tool-tip motion measurement. It is proposed that the measured force normalto the face of the workpice can be filterd through an appropriate admittance transfer function to result in the estimated depth of cut. This can be compared to the desired depth of cut to generate the adjustment cotnrol action in addition to position feedback control. In this work, the design methodology on the admittance model-based control with a conventional controller is presented. Based on the empirical data of the cutting dynamics, simulation results are shown.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate changes in the balance ability of patients whose head positions were altered due to stroke. Subjects were divided into three groups to determine the effects of the training on dynamic balance and gait. Methods: Forty-two stroke patients were enrolled. The Visual Feedback Training (VFT) group performed four sets of exercises per training session using a Sensoneck device, while the Active Range of Motion (ART) group performed eight sets per training session after receiving education from an experienced therapist. The Visual Feedback with Active Range of Motion (VAT) group performed four sets of active range of motion and two sets of visual-feedback training per session using a Sensoneck device. The training sessions were conducted three days a week for eight weeks. Results: The comparison of changes in dynamic balance ability showed that a significant difference in the total distance of the body center was found in the VFT group (p<0.05) and Significant differences were found according to the training period (p<0.05). The comparison of the 10 m walk test showed that the main effect test, treatment period and interactions between group had statistically significant differences between the three groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: Head-adjustment training using visual feedback can improve the balance ability and gait of stroke patients. These results show that coordination training between the eyes and head with visual feedback exercises can be used as a treatment approach to affect postural control through various activities involving the central nervous system.

  • This study aims to reveal what is necessary for pre-service science teachers to make good use of online formative assessment in the context of online classes. For 22 pre-service physics teachers, first, the preliminary perception of online classes, online formative assessment, and formative assessment was investigated; second, the practice process of online formative assessment was examined. Then the differences between perception and practice were compared and analyzed. Data were collected in preliminary surveys, lesson plans, online formative assessment items, and interview data. As a result of the study, an interaction was mentioned as the difficulty of online classes in the preliminary perception, and pre-service teachers mentioned the use of technology, feedback, and adjustment as advantages of online formative assessment. In most cases of practice, the automated feedback was used using the platform's technology, but it did not lead to adjustment and interaction. In addition, the use of items in online formative assessment was not suitable for formative functions. The reason why the interaction using formative feedback did not occur seems to be because the understanding of formative assessment was insufficient. Pre-service teachers need to be prepared for the 'formative' function through the feedback of online formative assessment so that can lead to interaction in online classes. The shift to online classes is creating difficulties, especially in interaction. It is necessary to prepare and educate pre-service teachers on fundamental aspects that can overcome these difficulties.

  • Process adjustment, also called engineering process control(EPC), is applied to maintain process output close to a target value by manipulating controllable variables, but special causes may still make the process deviate from the target and result in significant costs. Thus, it is important to detect and mediate deviations as early as possible. We propose a one-step detection method, the moving search block(MSB), with which the time and type of a special cause can be identified in short periods. A modified control rule that can entertain the effects of the special cause is proposed. A numerical example is presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme.

  • Traditional statistical process control(SPC) applied to discrete part industry in the form of control charts can look for and eliminate assignable causes by process monitoring. On the other hand, engineering process control(EPC) applied to the process industry in the form of feedback control can maintain the process output on the target by continual adjustment of input variable. This study presents controlling and monitoring rules adopted variable sampling interval(VSI) to change sampling intervals in a predetermined fashion on the predicted process levels for integrated EPC and SPC systems. Twelve rules classified by EPC schemes(MMSE, constrained PI, bounded or deadband adjustment policy) and type of sampling interval combined with EWMA chart of SPC are proposed under IMA(1,1) disturbance model and zero-order (responsive) dynamic system. The properties of twelve control rules under three patterns of process change(sudden shift, drift and random shift) are evaluated and discussed through simulation and control rules for integrated VSI EPC and SPC systems are recommended.

  • In this paper, a feedforward-plus-feedback control scheme is presented to prevent congestion in store-and-forward packet switching networks. The control scheme consists of two algorithms. Specifically, the input traffic adjustment algorithm employs a fairness policy such that the transmission rate of the input traffic is proportional to its offered rate. The control signal computation algorithms to ensure stability of the overall system in the robust sense and to ensure the desired transient behavior in the adaptive, with respect to variations of input traffic, are designed.
