  • Although the mechanical properties of high-entropy alloys depend on the annealing conditions, limited works were established to investigate the annealing effect on the mechanical properties of Mo-added high-entropy alloys. Therefore, in the present work, the annealing effects on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of Mo-added high-entropy alloy were investigated. As a result, incomplete recrystallization from the limited annealing time not only suppresses deformation-induced phase transformation during cryogenic tensile test but also induces a deformation instability that results into the ductility reduction compare with the fully recrystallized sample. This result represents adjustment of annealing time is useful to control both transformation-induce plasticity and deformation instability of high-entropy alloys, and this can be applied to control the mechanical properties of metallic alloys by combining pre-straining and subsequent annealing.

  • CoFeV thin film alloys were fabricated by electrodeposition, and the dependences of their magnetic properties on the current density were investigated using an X-ray diffractometer and a vibrating sample magnetometer. The deposited Co increased from about 45 to 60 wt.% with increasing current density until $25mA/cm^2$ whereas the deposited Fe decreased from about 55 to 40 wt.% with increasing current density until $25mA/cm^2$. The deposited V, about 2 wt.%, was independent of the current density. The current efficiencies of electrodeposition decreased linearly from about 40 to 29% with increasing current density. The X-ray diffraction measurement showed that all peaks of the CoFeV films were consistent with those of a typical Co hcp and Fe bcc mixed phase. An increase in the current density decreased the grain size and increased the lattice constant. The saturation magnetization increased from about 2.2 to 2.5 T with increasing current density. The coercivity measured in the perpendicular direction decreased from 260 to 120 Oe with increasing current density; a drastic drop of 60 Oe occurred at $5mA/cm^2$. The coercivity measured in the in-plane direction remained almost unchanged, at about 20 Oe, with increasing current density.

  • In the present study, the effect of annealing condition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of the cold-rolled CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys were studied. Annealing treatment was performed under six different temperatures. Microstructural analyses confirmed that annealing below 800℃ resulted in the formation of intermetallic sigma (σ) phase within face-centered cubic (FCC) matrix, and this σ phase has beneficial effects on the formation of fine-grained structures through retardation of grain growth and recrystallization due to Zener pinning effect. This led to the enhanced yield strength and tensile strength of ~646 and ~855 MPa, respectively. The microstructures annealed above 800℃ demonstrated single FCC phase, and fully-recrystallized single FCC microstructure resulted in a slight increase in ductility with a considerable decrease in strength. The evolution of mechanical properties, such as strength, ductility, and strain hardening exponent, will be discussed.

  • The effect of the B additions on glass formation and magnetic properties is reported for the $Fe_{(87-x-y)}Co_yTi_7Zr_6B_x$ (x = 2, 4, 6 and y = 35, 40) alloy system. The ribbon samples with the width of 2 mm for each composition were prepared by the melt spinning technique; furthermore, their phase information was obtained from X-ray diffraction. Glass formation and magnetic properties were measured using differential scanning calorimetry and vibrating sample magnetometer respectively. The $Fe_{45}Co_{40}Ti_7Zr_6B_2$ (x = 2 and y = 40) system has the nanocrystalline phase identified as ${\alpha}-Fe$, as well as the amorphous phase, whereas all other alloys are fully amorphous. It is associated with the role of B on the glass formation. The widest supercooled liquid region is obtained as 71 K at x = 4 (both y = 35 and 40). The saturation magnetization decreases with the increase of the amount of the B addition, and the highest value is 1.59 T as x = 2 and y = 35 for this alloy system.

  • Al-Zn based alloys are the most common types of wrought Al alloys. Although Al-Zn alloys have high strength, they cannot be applied to a conventional casting process. In this study, Al-Zn-based alloys applicable to a die casting process were developed successfully. The developed Al-45 wt% Zn-based alloys showed a fine equiaxed grain structure and high strength. A fine equiaxed grain having an average size of $25{\mu}m$ was obtained by the die casting process. The UTS and elongation of the new alloy are 475 MPa and ~3.5%, respectively. In addition, we elucidate the effect of a Zn addition on variations in different mechanical properties and the microstructure characteristics of (Al96.3-xZnxCu3Si0.4Fe0.3) x=20, 30, 40, and 45 wt% alloys fabricated by a die casting process.

  • An externally applied magnetic field during annealing the $Nd_{2}Fe_{14}B/Fe_{3}B$ based spring magnet was found to enhance the exchange coupling between the hard and soft magnetic grains. More than 30 % increase in remanence values for melt-spun $Nd_{4}Fe_{73.5}Co_{3}(Hf_{1-x}-Ga_{x})B_{18.5}$(x=0, 0.5, 1.0) alloys was resulted from uniform distribution of $Fe_{3}B$, $\alpha$-Fe as well as $(Nd_{2}Fe_{14}B)$, and also from reduced grain size of those phases by 20 %. The result also showed that there is an optimum grain size exhibiting a high coercivity value which will be discussed in terms of previously simulated exchange coupling parameter.

  • A variety of metal oxides were coated by sol-gel process from their metal alkoxides on the ribbons of Co-based and Fe-based amorphous alloys, and the effects of surface oxide coating on the magnetic properties of the alloy are investigated. The core loss is found to be reduced significantly by the oxide coating, the loss reduction becoming more prominent at higher frequencies. The shape of the hystersis loop is also dependent upon the kind of the coated metal oxide. The coatings of MgO, SiO2, MgO·SiO2 and MgO·Al2O3 induce tensile stress into the Fe-based ribbon whereas those of BaO, Al2O3, CaO·Al2O3, SrO·Al2O3 and BaO·Al2O3 induce compressive stress. These results may be explained by the modification of domain structures via magnetoelastic interactions with the shrinkage stress induced by the sol-gel coating.
