  • Sustainability is an important topic within a variety of design areas, including fashion. The 'fast fashion' behavior of consumers is one of the big challenges that sustainable living faces. For the fashion industry, sustainability can be seen as a regulating ethos for higher quality and longer-lasting products, which I argue as embodying an intersection between sustainability and luxury. This study establishes a conceptual model for 'sustainable luxury' that can be implemented as a guide in the fashion design industry and education field. This paper will focus particularly on craft-based fashion within the industry. Through conceptual analysis and case studies, I analyze sustainable luxury through the scope of Soper's (2007) 'alternative hedonism', linking hedonic and selfidentity values as a foundation for the acceptance of and continued drive toward more sustainable luxury products. Unlike other studies which only emphasize the ecological and environmental aspects of sustainability, viz. green/eco design, this study explores sustainability as balanced with its four dimensions: environmental, economic, social, and cultural. Case studies will exemplify this redefined notion of sustainable luxury.

  • Since Industry 4.0, there is a growing interest in smart manufacturing across all industries. However, there are few studies on this topic in the garment industry despite the growing interest in implementing smart manufacturing. This paper presents the feasibility and essential considerations for implementing smart manufacturing in the garment industry. A systematic review analysis was conducted. Studies on garment manufacturing and smart manufacturing were searched separately in the Scopus database. Key technologies for each manufacturing were derived by keyword analysis. Studies on key technologies in each manufacturing were selected; in addition, bibliographic analysis and cluster analysis were conducted to understand the progress of technological development in the garment industry. In garment manufacturing, technology studies are rare as well as locally biased. In addition, there are technological gaps compared to other manufacturing. However, smart manufacturing studies are still in their infancy and the direction of garment manufacturing studies are toward smart manufacturing. More studies are needed to apply the key technologies of smart manufacturing to garment manufacturing. In this case, the progress of technology development, the difference in the industrial environment, and the level of implementation should be considered. Human components should be integrated into smart manufacturing systems in a labor-intensive garment manufacturing process.

  • The purpose of this study is to illuminate the location of fashion in contemporary society and to suggest a direction for fashion criticism in aesthetic$\hat{u}$cultural perspective. For this, literature researches about some of art criticism and fashion criticism theories and cultural studies related to fashion are performed. In this study, fashion criticism is defined as a linguistic analysis and interpretation about a variety of discursive networks around fashion as well as an aesthetic analysis of it. Considering this definition, an analytical framework for the contemporary fashion criticism combines Feldman's and Carney's models with Crane & Bovone's and Entwistle's sociological studies for aesthetic and cultural perspectives. At first, its aesthetic perspective shows 'Description'-'Descriptive formative features', 'Analysis'-'Locate the style' and 'Aesthetic value', 'Interpretation'- 'Interpretation of the fashion object' and 'Socio-cultural interpretation', 'Judgment'-'Critical judgment'. Then, its cultural perspective especially emphasizes 'Socio-cultural interpretation' of the 6 steps above. Socio-cultural interpretation gets tangled with the network of various cultural agents within the fashion system, producers/designers, retailers/suppliers, media/editors, consumers/spectators, and so on. In the course of the fashion system 5 analytical methods about the fashion object can be suggested and they are as follows: Analyses of texts, discourses and symbols of a fashion object, Analyses of fashion systems which produces symbolic values, Analyses of the communication of symbolic values and the disseminating processes through the media, Analyses of the attribution of symbolic values to a fashion object by consumers, and Cross-national studies of symbolic values expressed in a fashion object.

Second, we can also see the 'conformity' of the use to make a strong cohesion. Third, the fashion works symbolized an 'expression of individuality' of the youth. Fourth, the fashion works express an 'importance of practicality' related to the values of the young who prefer to high cost-effectiveness goods. Last, there is a 'remixed culture' in the Russian designer's works where a previously mixed culture mixes with others in creating a completely new one. This study analyzed the characteristics of a contemporary youth culture that influenced the world fashion market and contributed to understanding that the young generation is active in all aspects of society.

  • With the expansion of the vegan fashion industry and increasing consumer interest in vegan goods, the first inaugural Vegan Fashion Week was held in LA in 2019. However, there are no studies examining the sustainability of vegan fashion brands; this study underlines the necessity to close this research gap. This study aimed to ascertain how these issues are handled by vegan fashion brands. Using the "sustainable criterion of fashion brands," we investigated the companies that participated in Vegan Fashion Week. This study analyzed the featured brands, conducted case studies, and examined each brand's sustainability strategies and procedures. Press releases, news articles, official websites, and web magazines served as raw data for this study. Analyses of individual networks were performed and brands' approaches to veganism and sustainability were evaluated; eco-friendly material, fair trade, local production, and vegan inspiration were among these techniques. Every brand had put at least one of these requirements into practice for their business, with vegan inspiration being the most popular approach. Additionally, it was discovered that vegan fashion brands deliberately employed vegan messaging that aligns with their corporate values. After its initial launch, VFW continues to advance the discourse on vegan fashion both within the industry and with the general public. The study's implications include the analysis of vegan fashion brands' ethical manufacturing, environmental practices, and overall sustainability.

As one of the most globalized industries in Korea, fashion businesses also require urgent assistance of academics in understanding global consumers. This study aimed to analyze cross-cultural fashion marketing studies published in two respectful journals in fashion studies: Journal of Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles and Journal of the Korean Society of Costume. Four researchers independently searched the target journals to locate studies using cross-cultural approaches. A total of 45 cross-cultural studies published in two journals between 1977 and 2005 were found and analyzed. The major findings could be summarized as followed. First, the US was the most frequently studied country followed by China, Japan, Hong Kong and others. Second, popular subjects of cross cultural studies in fashion marketing were fashion marketing environment and management rather than consumer psychology. Third, about 78% of the sampled studies were using quantitative approach, and statistical methods such as factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and $X^2$ analysis were commonly used. Finally, problems in sampling methods, translation of scales, and equivalence of concept, measure and sample were analyzed. Suggestions for future cross-cultural studies were discussed.

  • The jeans fashion has important meaning as the symbol of sociocultural phenomenon related with modern fashion. It became the symbol of natural fashion beauty representing freedom and equality and sometimes the sensual style. This study defined the meaning, element, and importance of fashion styling by analyzing preliminary studies and analyzed the aesthetic characteristics of the jeans fashion. The purpose of this study is to drive four styling patterns of the jeans fashion based on such theoretical studies and empirical researches about jeans fashion and plan and direct jeans fashion styling for each style. The results also provides the basis for acknowledging that the idea of 'directing and creating a style' according to a person's intent beyond the one-dimensional idea of simply 'wearing' clothes is the true fashion styling and will set an important footing in the fashion field with the ideas that fit the 21st century.
