  • This study was carried out to investigate changes in the quality and botanical composition of native pasture during the grazing period. The results obtained were as follows: 1. On all the farms, the total dry matter yield of native pasture was much higher in the October-cut than in the July-cut. 2. The crude protein content was higher in the July-cut than in the Oct.-cut, while the crude fiber content gave opposite results. There was the same tendency on all the farms. 3. When the six farms were compared, the highest crude protein content was found at Hawon and Haian farm, and cows on these farms showed the highest daily weight gain. Ohra farm had the lowest crude protein and the cows on this farm the lowest daily weight gain. 4. The botanical composition of the main species distributed was 58.1% Zoysia japonica, 16.4 Pteridum aquilinum, and 3.8% Miscanthus sinensis. In the case of family, 72.1% were Gramineae, 1.8% Leguminosae, and 16.4% Pteridacea. 5. According to botanical composition of a family, Hawon farm had the highest daily weight gain and the highest rate of Gramineae and Leguminosae. Ohra and Youngkang farms had the lowest weight gains, but the native grassland on these farms contained a high proportion of Pteridum which is toxic to cattle.

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to assess the usefulness of fat-free mass index (FFMI) and fat mass index (FMI) as novel expression methods of body composition in children. Methods : A total of 466 Second grade students-248 boys and 218 girls- from all elementary schools the Gwacheon City underwent anthropometric measures including bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and biochemical tests. The correlation coefficients between obesity indices, including FMI and FFMI, and metabolic risk factors, were assessed. Metabolic risk factors of children with increased FMI were compared with those of children with normal FMI. We compared FMI and FFMI percentile distribution between this study's subjects and the subjects of the Fukuoka body composition study. Results : FMI was lower and FFMI was higher in this study's subjects compared to the subjects of the Fukuoka body composition study. FMI was correlated with other obesity indices and several metabolic risk factors. Metabolic risk was higher in children with increased FMI than in children with normal FMI. Conclusion : FMI and FFMI were useful indicators in comparing difference of body composition among children that had different body size and growth. High FMI was related to increase of metabolic risk in children.

  • As multicultural family gradually increased, our society is changing towards multicultural society. This study tried to identify the factors related with social distance of adolescent of multicultural family. The participants were 568 middle school students living in S city, D and H county in Chungnam province. Data for the study were analyzed by frequency, mean comparison, correlation and regression analysis. The study results were summarized as follows. First, there were significant differences in social distance according to gender, school record, and place of residence. Second, there were significant differences in social distance according to degree of intimacy between general adolescents. Third, as a result of correlation analysis, the lower self-esteem was, the lower value orientation was, the lower cultural diversity was; the higher social distance is. Accordingly, social distance for adolescents had negative correlations with self-esteem, value orientation, and cultural diversity. Fourth, variables affecting social distance were gender, school record, family composition, place of residence, friend from multicultural family, intention to be a friend, experience of overseas travel, self-esteem, value orientation, cultural diversity. Among them, intention to be a friend was a main predictor.

  • The Ministry of Construction & Transportation revised the full text of 'The Act for Promoting Housing Construction' that concentrated to the quantitative supply of houses into 'Housing Act' in order to improve the quantity as well as quality of housing construction and management, such as housing welfare, management or improvement of previous houses, in October 2002. Accordingly, local authority need to play more critical roles in the area of multi-family housing management and remodeling. The desirable roles of local authority called for the need are like followings: 1. Local authority should provide professional knowledge for education, direction and consultation of multi-family housing management rather keeping the previous role to control, manage and regulate it. 2. The multi-family housing management should be changed from administration and punishment to incentive-centered institutions. 3. It is necessary to consider neglected people, such as occupants of rental apartment or of a small-sized multi-family housing, who have been excepted from the subject of obligatory management under the current law. 4. For harmonious and professional housing management, local authority need to support the establishment or special companies for housing management and to strengthen the audit on trust management companies. 5. It calls for the studies on management guideline of multi-family housing, standardization of management specifics, reasonable standard for special mending appropriation amount, etc. 6. They should lead the composition of a community by residents harmoniously and support the encouragement of community consciousness to live together.

  • With regard to the pavilion buildings of Imcheonggak Gunjajeong and Donglakdang Gyejeong that are located within residential areas, this study focused on the construction background, the building owner's circumstances and the location environment of these buildings, and attempted to derive the architectural characteristics presented by these two pavilion buildings and, through this, to grasp the architect's intention of plan. The results of this study are as follows. With regard to Gunjajeong, it could be confirmed that, first, it is located in a propitious site and took the composition that follows the family ritual standards for the family rituals of the scholar-gentry class and opens to visitor access, and second, the floor height of the site and interior space was designed so that Munpilbong on the south and the Sarangchae on the west, and the Sadang on the east can be connected visually, and third, the authority and dignity of the head family were built through the symmetric 丁-shaped plane figure, the wide partition module, the form-centered building, and the hierarchical composition of the roof. On the other hand, with regard to Gyejeong, it could be confirmed that, first, it is located along the stream of Jagye valley that has no mountains in the front and in the back and took the composition that put the name symbolizing Taoist thoughts on the surrounding natural environment and was closed to visitor access but opens to nature, and second, with Jagye and Jagye surroundings as the main landscape, it built the concept of intended landscape that symbolizes the Taoist thoughts by giving names not only simply to the visible objects but also to surrounding rocks, and third, the asymmetric ㄱ-shaped plane composed a yard-centered space rather than emphasizing the shape, and connected the part of the plane with Jagye so as to be embodied as a personal inner self-perfecting place that closely communicates only with nature away from the mundane world.

  • This research is studied changes of outdoor lavatories in use of detached houses in rural areas. Out of 40 houses studied in a 1995 survey, 23 houses were performed again in 2015. Number of lavatories installed in indoor and outdoor both in 1995 are more than in 2015. However, number of indoor lavatories in 2015 are more because outdoor lavatories were demolished. Among 23 houses, 15 outdoor lavatories have been installed in 13 houses. Out of these 15 lavatories, eight have been used continuously from 1995 through 2015. Currently four are used for other purposes, and five have demolished. Outdoor lavatories tend to be built in the rear of the housing site. Those located in rear tend to be demolished rather than in front side because of decreasing in use. In rural areas, outdoor lavatories not only serve as spaces to fulfill basic human needs, but are used to store agricultural tools. Changes of family composition and member also exert an influence. When family members were decreased, outdoor lavatories tended to be demolished. However, although family members were decreased, the reason that outdoor lavatories have been used continually is for exterior work or farming and temporarily increasing family members in holiday and family events. The more family members used, the more outdoor lavatories are managed well. The more houses where the aged reside in, the more outdoor lavatories are not improved.
