  • Radar Cross Section (RCS) is a factor directly related to survivability, and a design to reduce the presence of this factor is needed. The upper structure, guns, radar and so on are related to warship RCS, but radar RCS reduction is difficult because of complex shapes involved. In this paper, an enclosed mast, which is one modern method for reducing radar RCS, and the characteristics of an applied Frequency Selected Surface (FSS) are analyzed. The RCS reduction ability of an enclosed mast has been confirmed by comparing RCS analysis results for a general radar with that of an enclosed mast for available frequency according to FSS shape. The characteristics of the enclosed mast have also been studied by analyzing the elevation angle and slope of the mast. General radar RCS was high because of its complex shape, but low RCS was shown for the enclosed mast model, which had a simpler shape.

  • In Cretu [Fuzzy Sets and Systems 120(2001) 371-383], triangular norms and their hierarchy are investigated. In this paper, we give new proofs which are significantly shorter than those given in Cretu, applying a known result which involves only one argument of one-place rather than two place arguments by Klement et al. • Stability aspects have often been incorporated in the dispatch/pricing procedure using trial and error methods, or approximated in the dispatch optimization directly as a set of linear constraints on generation/transmission. This paper presents introduction of PSS/OPF and voltage instability analysis using the program. Additional advantages offered by FSS/OPF are easier procedures, less computation and avoidance of engineering judgement in identifying the amount of shunt requrement at the candidate buses.

  • The basic of the VSI charts is that if the sample statistic computed after a sample is taken shows some indication of a process change than the sampling interval before the next sample should be short otherwise long. This paper was shown the VSS chart can be considerably more efficient than the FSS chart and the effectiveness of VSI R chart with S chart used for monitoring a process standard deviation.

  • We implemented a PLDRO(Phase Locked Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) using the concept of the feedback property of PLL(Phase Locked Loop) for Ku-band(10.95-11.70 GHz). The conventional approaches to a PLDRO design use varactor diode tuning method.. But in theis paper, the PLDRO has the advantage of the frequency sensitivity to changes in the supple voltage of the oscillating device without the frequency-variable part by varactor diode voltage-control. and uses a SPD(Sampling Phase Detector) for phase-comparision. The PLDRO is composed of the DRO phase-locked to the reference signal of UHF band by using a SPD for high frequency stability and can be available for European FSS(Fixed Satellite Service) at 10.00GHz. The PLDRO generates the output power of 8.67 dBm at 10.00 GHz and has a phase noise of -81 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset from carrier. The hamonic and spurious characteristics have -42.33 dBc and -65dBc respectively. This PLDRO has much better frequency stability, lower phase noise, and more economical effect for a satellite system than conventional DRO.

  • A PLDRO(Phase Locked Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) in Ku-band(10.95-11.70GHz) is designed with the concept of the feedback property of PLL(Phase Locked Loop). A series feedback type DRO is developed, and VCDRO(Voltage Controlled Dielectric Resonator Oscillator) using a varactor diode as a voltage-variable capacitor is implemented to tune oscillating frequency electrically. Then, PLDRO is designed by using a SPD(Sampling Phase Detector). This PLDRO is phase-locked voltage controlled DRO to reference source(VHF band) by SPD at 10.00 GHz for European FSS(Fixed Satellite Service). The PLDRO generates output power greater than 10dBm at 10.00 GHz and has phase noise of -80 dBc/Hz at 10 KHz offset from carrier. This PLDRO achieves much better frequency stability than conventional VCDRO.

  • Since accommodation, public space and service areas where people stay for all day occupy about 70% of a huge cruise ship, they have to be protected from the fire. International Maritime Organization has resolved that a water mist system should be equipped in this cruise ship according to SOLAS II-2 Reg. 10.6 and FSS code Ch. 7. The water mist system consists of mist nozzles, pressure vessels, section valves and pump unit etc. In particular, the water mist nozzles should be recognized by fire tests in accordance with IMO Res. MSC 265(84). In this study, the fire tests for cabin, corridor, public space and storage area have been conducted to develop the water mist nozzles appropriate to the regulation. Totally 5 types of nozzles were developed and have satisfied the whole performance requirements.

  • Predicting the location and intensity of precipitation still remains a main issue in numerical weather prediction (NWP). Resolution is a very important component of precipitation forecasts in NWP. Compared with a lower resolution model, a higher resolution model can predict small scale (i.e., storm scale) precipitation and depict convection structures more precisely. In addition, an ensemble technique can be used to improve the precipitation forecast because it can estimate uncertainties associated with forecasts. Therefore, NWP using both a higher resolution model and ensemble technique is expected to represent inherent uncertainties of convective scale motion better and lead to improved forecasts. In this study, the limited area ensemble prediction system for the convective-scale (i.e., high resolution) operational Unified Model (UM) in Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) was developed and evaluated for the ensemble forecasts during August 2012. The model domain covers the limited area over the Korean Peninsula. The high resolution limited area ensemble prediction system developed showed good skill in predicting precipitation, wind, and temperature at the surface as well as meteorological variables at 500 and 850 hPa. To investigate which combination of horizontal resolution and ensemble member is most skillful, the system was run with three different horizontal resolutions (1.5, 2, and 3 km) and ensemble members (8, 12, and 16), and the forecasts from the experiments were evaluated. To assess the quantitative precipitation forecast (QPF) skill of the system, the precipitation forecasts for two heavy rainfall cases during the study period were analyzed using the Fractions Skill Score (FSS) and Probability Matching (PM) method. The PM method was effective in representing the intensity of precipitation and the FSS was effective in verifying the precipitation forecast for the high resolution limited area ensemble prediction system in KMA.
