There is not enough mixed finite element method (MFEM) model developed for static and dynamic analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) beams in the literature. The main purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and efficient computational modeling using an efficient functional in MFEM for free vibration and static analysis of FGM composite beams subject to high order shear deformation effects. The modeling of material properties was performed using mixture rule and Mori-Tanaka scheme which are more realistic determination techniques. This method based on the assumption that a two phase composite material consisting of matrix reinforced by spherical particles, randomly distributed in the beam. To explain the displacement components of the shear deformation effects, it was accepted that the shear deformation effects change sinusoidal. Partial differential field equations were obtained with the help of variational methods and then these equations were transformed into a novel functional for FGM beams with the help of Gateaux differential derivative operator. Thanks to the Gateaux differential method, the compatibility of the field equations was checked, and the field equations and boundary conditions were reflected to the function. A MFEM model was developed with a total of 10 degrees of freedom to apply the obtained functional. In the numerical applications section, free vibration and flexure problems solutions of FGM composite beams were compared with those predicted by other theories to show the effects of shear deformation, thickness changing and boundary conditions.

This study represents a numerical research in vibration and buckling of functionally graded material (FGM) beam comprising edge crack by using finite element method (FEM) and multilayer perceptron (MLP). It is assumed that the material properties change only according to the exponential distributions along the beam thickness. FEM and MLP solutions of the natural frequencies and critical buckling load are obtained of the cracked FGM beam for clamped-free (C-F), hinged-hinged (H-H), and clamped-clamped (C-C) boundary conditions. Numerical results are obtained to show the effects of crack location (c/L), material properties (E2/E1), slenderness ratio (L/h) and end supports on the bending vibration and buckling properties of cracked FGM beam. The FEM analysis used in this paper was verified with the literature, and the fundamental frequency ratio ($\overline{P_{cr}}$) and critical buckling load ratio ($\overline{{\omega}}$) results obtained were compared with FEM and MLP. The results obtained are quite compatible with each other.
A New hyperbolic shear deformation theory is developed for the bending analysis of softcore and hardcore functionally graded sandwich beams. This theory satisfies the equilibrium conditions at the top and bottom faces of the sandwich beam and does not require the shear correction factor. The governing equations are derived from the principle of virtual work. Sandwich beams have functionally graded skins and two types of homogenous core (softcore and hardcore). The material properties of functionally graded skins are graded through the thickness according to the power-law distribution. The Navier solution is used to obtain the closed form solutions for simply supported FGM sandwich beams. The accuracy and effectiveness of proposed theory are verified by comparison with previous research. A detailed numerical study is carried out to examine the influence of the deflections, stresses, and sandwich beam type on the bending responses of functionally graded sandwich beams.

In this paper, the free vibrations analysis of the nanoplates made of three-directional functionally graded material (TDFGM) with small scale effects is presented. To study the small-scale effects on natural frequency, modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) has been used. Material properties of the nanoplate follow an arbitrary function that changes in three directions along the length, width and thickness of the plate. The equilibrium equations and boundary conditions of nanoplate are obtained using the Hamilton's principle. The generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is used to solve the governing equations and different boundary conditions for obtaining the natural frequency of nanoplate made of three-directional functionally graded material. The present model can be transformed into a couple stress plate model or a classic plate model if two or all parameters of the length scales set to zero. Finally, numerical results are presented to study the small-scale effect and heterogeneity constants and the aspect ratio with different boundary conditions on the free vibrations of nanoplates. To the best of the researchers' knowledge, in the literature, there is no study carried out into MSGT for free vibration analysis of FGM nanoplate with arbitrary functions.
This work presents a comparison between analytical and finite element analysis for bending of porous sandwich functionally graded material (FGM) plates. The plate is rectangular and simply supported under static sinusoidal loading. Material properties of FGM are assumed to vary continuously across the face sheets thickness according to a power-law function in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents while the core is homogeneous. Four types of porosity are considered. A refined higher-order shear with normal deformation theory is used. The number of unknowns in this theory is five, as against six or more in other shear and normal deformation theories. This theory assumes the nonlinear variation of transverse shear stresses and satisfies its nullity in the top and bottom surfaces of the plate without the use of a shear correction factor. The governing equations of equilibrium are derived from the virtual work principle. The Navier approach is used to solve equilibrium equations. The constitutive law of the porous FGM sandwich plate is implemented for a 3D finite element through a subroutine in FORTRAN (UMAT) in Abaqus software. Results show good agreement between the finite element model and the analytical method for some results, but the analytical method keeps giving symmetric results even with the thickness stretching effect and load applied to the top surface of the sandwich.
This paper attempts to investigate the free vibration of functionally graded material beams with nonuniform width based on the nonlocal elasticity theory. The theoretical formulations are established following the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, and the governing equations of motion of the system are derived from the minimum total potential energy principle using the nonlocal elasticity theory. In addition, the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) is applied, along with the Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto polynomials, in order to determine the weighting coefficient matrices. Furthermore, the effects of the nonlocal parameter, cross-section area of the functionally graded material (FGM) beam and various boundary conditions on the natural frequencies are examined. It is observed that the nonlocal parameter and boundary conditions significantly influence the natural frequencies of the functionally graded material beam cross-section. The results obtained, using the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) under various boundary conditions, are found in good agreement with analytical and numerical results available in the literature.
The aim of this study is to obtain the nonlinear and post-buckling responses of relatively thick functionally graded plates with oblique elliptical cutouts using a new semi-analytical approach. To model the oblique elliptical hole in a FGM plate, six plate-elements are used and the connection between these elements is provided by the well-known Penalty method. Therefore, the semi-analytical technique used in this paper is known as the plate assembly technique. In order to take into account for functionality of the material in a perforated plate, the volume fraction of the material constituents follows a simple power law distribution. Since the FGM perforated plates are relatively thick in this research, the structural model is assumed to be the first order shear deformation theory and Von-Karman's assumptions are used to incorporate geometric nonlinearity. The equilibrium equations for FGM plates containing elliptical holes are obtained by the principle of minimum of total potential energy. The obtained nonlinear equilibrium equations are solved numerically using the quadratic extrapolation technique. Various sets of boundary conditions for FGM plates and different cutout sizes and orientations are assumed here and their effects on nonlinear response of plates under compressive loads are examined.
This study explores the linear and nonlinear solutions of sigmoid functionally graded material (S-FGM) nanoplate with porous effects. A size-dependent numerical solution is established using the strain gradient theory and isogeometric finite element formulation. The nonlinear nonlocal strain gradient is developed based on the Reissner-Mindlin plate theory and the Von-Karman strain assumption. The sigmoid function is utilized to modify the classical functionally graded material to ensure the constituent volume distribution. Two different patterns of porosity distribution are investigated, viz. pattern A and pattern B, in which the porosities are symmetric and asymmetric varied across the plate's thickness, respectively. The nonlinear finite element governing equations are established for bending analysis of S-FGM nanoplates, and the Newton-Raphson iteration technique is derived from the nonlinear responses. The isogeometric finite element method is the most suitable numerical method because it can satisfy a higher-order derivative requirement of the nonlocal strain gradient theory. Several numerical results are presented to investigate the influences of porosity distributions, power indexes, aspect ratios, nonlocal and strain gradient parameters on the porous S-FGM nanoplate's linear and nonlinear bending responses.
The present paper deals with the free vibration analysis of the functionally graded solid and annular circular plates with two functionally graded piezoelectric layers at top and bottom subjected to an electric field. Classical plate theory (CPT) is used for description of the all deformation components based on a symmetric distribution. All the mechanical and electrical properties except Poisson's ratio can vary continuously along the thickness direction of the plate. The properties of plate core can vary from metal at bottom to ceramic at top. The effect of non homogeneous index of functionally graded and functionally graded piezoelectric sections can be considered on the results of the system. $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ modes of natural frequencies of the system have been evaluated for both solid and annular circular plates, individually.
This paper introduces an improved shear deformation theory for analyzing the buckling behavior of functionally graded plates subjected to varying temperatures. The transverse shear strain functions employed satisfy the stress-free condition on the plate surfaces without requiring shear correction factors. The material properties and thermal expansion coefficient of the porous functionally graded plate are assumed temperature-dependent and exhibit continuous variation throughout the thickness, following a modified power-law distribution based on the volume fractions of the constituents. Moreover, the study considers the influence of porosity distribution on the buckling of the functionally graded plates. Thermal loads are assumed to have uniform, linear, and nonlinear distributions through the thickness. The obtained results, considering the effect of porosity distribution, are compared with alternative solutions available in the existing literature. Additionally, this study provides comprehensive discussions on the influence of various parameters, emphasizing the importance of accounting for the porosity distribution in the buckling analysis of functionally graded plates.
