To 160 persons(90 men, 70 women) who went to the national hospital of Solok-island with Hansens's disease, I tested the objective refracts test with the product of Cannon Ltd. Co. which RK-3 Auto Ref-keratometer's auto ophthalmoscope. The results were like these. Visual acuity of above 0.7 that can live without glasses was contained 44 men's eyes(24.4%) and 19 women s eyes(13.6%). These result are indicated that men have had more good visual acuity than women. Visual acuity of below 0.6 that cannot do normal life was contained 80.3% of the total patients. And amblyopia of below 0.3 and eyes which cannot be corrected were shown 44.4%(80 men's eyes and 55.7% 78 woman's eyes). Myopia was contained 119 eyes(43), hyperopia was contained 139 eyes (50.4%) and emmetropia was 6.5%. Astigmatism was shown 136 men s eyes (86.6%) and 97 women's eyes(81.5%). These results are indicated what many people accompany with astigmatism. And these ratio had some high percentages men rather than women. Direct astigmatic was contained 37 eyes (11.6%), Indirect astigmatic 81 eyes(25.3%) and Oblique Astigmatic 115 eyes(35.9%). As a of distributed result oblique astigmatic occupied best high point as 49.4% in 233 astigmatism and distributed the opposite direction as compared with normal irregular emmetropia not patient.
This study is examined the difference between binocular spherical diopter and astigmatism diopter, spherical diopter, astigmatism diopter, and axis of astigmatism by sex and age with reference to the prescription of refraction for a total of 257 persons, 134 persons (male:78, female: 56)of teen-age and 123 persons of twenty-age who visit optical shop. Spherical correction diopter is mainly distributed to 280 eyes between -0.25D and -4.00D. And in astigmatism correction, for right astigmatism, 48 eyes(49.48%) are prescribed astigmatism diopter for a range of C-0.25~C-0.50D, 29 eyes(29.89%) has C-0.75~C-1.00D, 65 eyes(67.01%) has with the rule astigmatism. For left astigmatism, 43 eyes(42.57%) are prescribed astigmatism diopter of C-0.25~C-0.50D and 37 eyes(36.63%) has C-0.75C~1.00D, 73 eyes(72.27%) are shown with the rule astigmatism. And also each 108 persons(47.16%) and 28 persons(25.00%) are shown no difference between binocular spherical correction diopter and binocular astigmatism correction diopter, 94 eyes(39.49%) of teen-age and 104 eyes(42.27%) of twenty-age, male 119 eyes(41.90%) and female 79 eyes(34.34%) need correcting astigmatism. In pupillary distance, 165 persons mostly have 59~64mm.
Spiders usually have poor vision but not the jumping spiders. Their eight eyes are located on its distinctive box-shaped head and relatively well developed. The Spiders were fixated with 3% glutaraldehyde and thin section was performed with ultra-microtome. The specimens were observed with light microscopy, transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Eye area of jumping spider is competed of three rows. The first eye row comprise four eyes. Among them, two anterior median eyes are the largest and two anterior lateral eyes are relatively small. The former are main-eyes and have excellent vision. The second row, which has the two smallest eyes, is located about midway between the first and third rows. The third row is about half-way back on the thorax and eyed of which are middle size. To investigate ultrastructure of salticid spiders'eye, Menemerus fulvus was chosen. All of Menemerus fuvus's eyes are composed of cornea, lens, vitreous body and retina in histologically. Cornea layer, linked to exocuticle of exoskeleton. is regular layer structure without any cell tripe. Lenses are biconvex type. Retinas comprise well developed microvilli-shape rhabdomeres, unpigmented supporting cells, and pigmented cell. Retinas of anterior median eyes are surrounded by circular cylinder-shaped vitreous body, photoreceptor, i.e. rhabdomeres, of it is irregularly arranged compared to the other eyes.
Purpose: The study was performed to compare the difference of non-invasive tear break-up time (NIBUT) with alignment or steep fitting of soft contact lens in normal and dry eyes. Methods: Total 40 eyes (aged 20~30 years) were classified to the normal (n=20) or dry eye group (n=20) by the diagnosis methods for dry eyes and worn soft contact lens (polymacon material) with alignment or steep fitting. NIBUTs of lens wearers were separately measured at the points of before wearing, immediately after wearing and after stabilization of tear film. Results: With alignment fitting, averaged NIBUT in the dry eye group after stabilization of tear film was not significantly different from that of the normal eye group. However, averaged NIBUTs in the normal and dry eyes had significant difference when measured immediately after lens wearing. However, the number of eyes having NIBUT less than 4.0 second was 30% higher compared to the number of normal eyes with steep fitting when measured immediately after wearing. Some shorten NIBUT in dry eyes with steep fitting was also shown after stabilization of tear film. Conclusions: These results suggest that wearing soft contact lens in dry eyes differently affect tear film compared to normal eyes. Thus, dry eyes need more advertent fitting for contact lens wearing because of unstable tear film.
The purporse of this study was to evaluate the quantitative differences in mRNA expression of TLR-2, -4, and -9 in normal equine eyes and eyes with equine recurrent uveitis (ERU). Normal equine eyes (n = 6) and eyes with naturally-occurring ERU (n = 6) were collected. Real time PCR assay was performed to compare mRNA expression of TLR-2, -4, and -9 between normal and ERU eyes. A significant up-regulation of TLR-2 and -9 mRNA in the ciliary body and TLR-2 mRNA in the iris was found in eyes with ERU compared to the mRNA levels in these same tissues of normal equine eyes. There were no remarkable differences observed in TLR-4 mRNA expression between normal eyes and eyes with ERU. The current data suggest the potential involvement of TLR-2 and -9 in the pathogenesis of ERU. However, further study is required to determine the role of TLRs in ERU.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors that influence the cognitive degree of dry eyes in nursing students. Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires (cognitive degree of dry eyes, Standard Patients Evaluation of Eye Dryness [SPEED] questionnaire, and McMonnies questionnaire) from 233 nursing students of E university. Results: The mean scores for the cognitive degree of dry eyes, SPEED, and McMonnies were 21.43, 8.02, and 6.39, respectively. The cognitive degree of dry eyes was found to have a significantly positive correlation with McMonnies and SPEED scores. Additionally, the factors that influenced the cognitive degree of dry eyes among nursing students were hours of using smart phones, McMonnies score, and the SPEED score. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that interventions need to developed and applied to reduce and control the cognitive degree of dry eyes among nursing students.
The purpose of this study was to compare the balance ability at different foot angle with KAT 2000 (Breg, Inc., Vista, CA. 1994). Forty-nine (male 24, female 25) normal subjects participated in this study. All subjects were assessed under two conditions. One was eye-opened condition and the other one was eye-closed one in 3 psi surface condition. All subjects were tested at different foot angle that were toe-in $25^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, toe-out $25^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$. The subject attempted to keep the platform as stable as possible with eyes closed and with eyes opened for every 20 seconds. The starting position was that subject crossed their arms across chest and flexed knees slightly. The results of each test were showed by a score on screen, which meant balance index. The se collected data were analyzed by using oneway ANOVA, Scheffe test, and t-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1. When the foot angle were changed, balance index was the lowest in toes-out $25^{\circ}$ condition and greatest with toes-in $45^{\circ}$ with eyes opened and with eyes closed. There were statistically significant difference with eyes opened and with eyes closed (p<0.05). 2. There was statistically significant difference in balance index according to visual condition and the balance index tested with eyes closed was higher than with eyes closed(p<0.05). 3. There was statistically significant difference in balance index by gender(p<0.05).
Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the immediate effects of wearing a foot-pressure-based insole (FPBI) on ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (DFROM), postural sway, and muscle activation in healthy individuals with genu varum. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: This study was conducted on thirteen adults, with six male and seven females subjects. The mean age was 24.08 years. Foot pressure was measured to apply the FPBI and the weight bearing lunge test was performed with the application of a flat insole (FI) and FPBI. Examination was randomly performed in four conditions to measure both postural sway and muscle activation. All participants applied both the FI and FPBI with four conditions. The four conditions were as follows: 1) Romberg test posture with eyes closed, 2) Romberg test posture with eyes opened, 3) dominant single leg standing with eyes opened, and 4) non-dominant single leg standing with eyes opened. Results: For ankle DFROM between the FI and FPBI, a significant increase was observed in both the dominant and non-dominant leg (p<0.05). For postural sway between the FI and FPBI in the Romberg test posture with eyes closed and dominant single leg standing with eyes opened conditions, a significant decrease was observed (p<0.05). However, the postural sway between FI and FPBI in the Romberg test posture with eyes opened and non-dominant single leg standing with eyes opened, no significant decrease was observed. Also, there were no significant effects on muscle activation between the application of the FI and FPBI. Conclusions: The result showed that FPBI immediately improved ankle DFROM and postural sway. It seems that FPBI may improve genu varum in healthy individuals with genu varum.

Background: Dry eye disease (DED) cannot be diagnosed by a single test because it is a multifactorial disorder of the ocular surface. Although studies on various dry eye tests (DETs) in dogs have been reported, standard criteria have not been established except for the Schirmer tear test 1 (STT-1). Objectives: To establish reference values for DETs in dogs with normal STT-1 values (≥ 15 mm/min) and to analyze the correlation between DETs. Methods: The STT-1 was performed in 10 healthy Beagle dogs (20 eyes). After 20 min, interferometry (IF) for estimating the lipid layer thickness (LLT) of the tear film, tear meniscus height (TMH), non-invasive tear breakup time (NIBUT), and meibomian gland loss rate of the upper eyelid (MGLRU) and lower eyelid (MGLRL), were measured using an ocular surface analyzer. Results: Mean values for STT-1, TMH, and NIBUT were as follows: 21.7 ± 3.4 mm/min, 0.41 ± 0.21 mm, and 19.1 ± 9.5 sec, respectively. The most frequent LLT range, measured by IF, was 30-80 nm (11 eyes), followed by 80 nm (5 eyes) and 80-140 nm (4 eyes). MGLRU ≤ 25% was measured in 11 eyes and 26%-50% in 9 eyes; MGLRL ≤ 25% in 8 eyes and 26%-50% in 12 eyes. Besides positive correlation between TMH and NIBUT (P = 0.038), there were no significant associations between DETs. Conclusions: Data obtained in this study provided normative references that could be useful for diagnosing DED and for further research into correlation between DETs in dogs with DED.
Purpose: The study was performed to compare the differences in lens rotation, lens movement by blinking and lens centration with alignment or steep fitting of soft contact lens in normal and dry eyes. Methods: Total 40 eyes (aged 20~30 years) were classified into the normal (n=20) or dry eye group (n=20) by the diagnosis methods for dry eyes and worn soft contact lens (polymacon material) with alignment fitting or steep fitting. Lens rotation, lens movement by blinking and lens centration were separately measured immediately after lens wearing and after stabilization of tear film and compared by fitting states of soft contact lenses. Results: With steep fitting of soft contact lens in dry eyes, averaged lens rotation immediately after lens wearing was not significantly different from that of the normal eye group with alignment fitting however, lens rotation after stabilization in dry eyes was significantly larger than that in normal eyes. Any significant difference in lens movement by blinking was not shown in normal eyes. However, lens movement by blinking in dry eyes was increased with steep fitting. The range of lens centration on cornea in normal eyes with alignment fitting was more vertically distributed. On the other hand, the range of lens centration on cornea in dry eyes with alignment fitting was more horizontally distributed. Lens centration was shown to be changed by stabilization of tear film. That is, lens centrations were somewhat vertically widespread immediately after lens wearing and restrictively distributed in horizontal direction, respectively, with steep fitting in dry eyes. Conclusions: These results suggested that lens movements and centration in dry eyes were different from those of normal eyes. Especially, those differences between normal and dry eyes were much bigger with steep fitting of soft contact lenses. Thus, those differences should be considered for the comfortable and safe fitting of soft contact lens in dry eyes.
