This study has been carried out to understand the effect of Danchisoyosangagambang (DC) on the hyperglycemic mice induced with streptozotocin(STZ). Experimental groups were made diabetic mice by intraperitoneal injection of STZ(60 mg/kg of body weight) tw ice by 24 h interval and then 120 mg/kg STZ was injected again 3 days after the earlier treatment. Control group was administered mice with 0.9 % saline(2 mL/kg), and experim ental groups were administered DC extract(DCA group, 10 mg/kg/day; DCB group, 30 mg/kg/day) after hyperglycemic induction for 6 weeks. The body weight of experimental groups was lower than control. The blood glucose concentration increased continuously, rea ching to 298.9 mg/dL after 6 weeks, however, experimental groups of the DCA and DCB groups significantly(p<0.0l) decreased in the 4, 5, and 6 weeks groups. Blood glucose tolerance test was not significant between control and experimental groups. We examined the blood transaminase activities to know the effect of herbal medicine on liver function. The GOT activities were lower in group DCB than in control. The GPT activities were lower in group DCA and DCB than in control. The content of triglyceride was significantly increased in group DCA compared to control. The SOD and catalase activities were higher in the group DCA compared to control. The results of immunohistochemical study, a few of insulin positive cells observed in the control and experimental group. These results suggest that administration of DC extract to the hyperglycemic mice decreased the blood glucose level.

Objectives : This study aimed to assess the scientific evidence for the use of Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang, a traditional herbal formula, in the treatment of rhinitis, and prepare the basis for the investigational new drug application by analyzing the experimental studies. Methods : Ten electronic databases were searched up to December, 2016 without language limitation. Experimental studies on the anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects of Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang against rhinitis were included. We extracted data about study design, characteristics of intervention, outcomes, and pharmacological effects from the included studies and summarized them. Results : Eight hundred and thirty-three potentially relevant studies were identified, of which 18 experimental studies met our inclusion criteria. Of 18 included studies, 5 had conducted cell viability test, and all studies had reported that Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang was non-cytotoxic. Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang exhibits anti-inflammatory effect by regulating the inflammation-related cytokines including nitric oxide(NO), prostaglandin $E_2(PGE_2)$, interleukin-6(IL-6), and tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}(TNF-{\alpha})$ in vitro and in vivo. Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang exhibits anti-allergic effect by suppressing eosinophil, and histamine levels. Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang helps in the recovery of nasal mucous membrane by supressing goblet cells, heat shock protein 70, and substance P. Conclusions : This study suggests that Hwanglyeonhaedok-tang has the potential to be developed as therapeutic agent for rhinitis. Further experimental and clinical studies needed to be performed to prove the safety and efficacy.

The characteristics of the spread of a forest fire are generally related to the attributes of combustibles, geographical features, and meteorological conditions, such as wind conditions. The most common methodology used to create a prediction model for the spread of forest fires, based on the numerical analysis of the development stages of a forest fire, is an analysis of heat energy transmission by the stage of heat transmission. When a forest fire breaks out, the analysis of the transmission velocity of heat energy is quantifiable by the spread velocity of flame movement through a physical and chemical analysis at every stage of the fire development from flame production and heat transmission to its termination. In this study, the formula used for the 1-D surface forest fire behavior prediction model, derived from a numerical analysis of the surface flame spread rate of solid combustibles, is introduced. The formula for the 1-D surface forest fire behavior prediction model is the estimated equation of the flame spread velocity, depending on the condition of wind velocity on the ground. Experimental and theoretical equations on flame duration, flame height, flame temperature, ignition temperature of surface fuels, etc., has been applied to the device of this formula. As a result of a comparison between the ROS(rate of spread) from this formula and ROSs from various equations of other models or experimental values, a trend suggesting an increasing curved line of the exponent function under 3m/s or less wind velocity condition was identified. As a result of a comparison between experimental values and numerically analyzed values for fallen pine tree leaves, the flame spread velocity reveals a prediction of an approximately 10% upward tendency under wind velocity conditions of 1 to 2m/s, and of an approximately 20% downward tendency under those of 3m/s.

In recent years, the occurrence of localized torrential rain has increased due to the increase in heavy rainfall and massive typhoons caused by abnormal weather. As a result, the flow rate of small and medium-sized rivers in Korea is rapidly increasing, affecting the safety of bridges and increasing the risk of scour. However, the domestic bridge construction technology does not reflect the watershed characteristics of domestic rivers because the bridge scour depth calculation formula developed overseas is used to calculate the bridge scour depth. Therefore, this study is a basic study for prevention of bridge damage according to scouring phenomenon, and a comparative analysis was performed between the experimental data measured through hydraulic model test and the scour depth formulas applied in Korea. In addition, the statistical analysis between experimental data and scour depth formula shows that Coleman's (1971) formula estimates the best scour depth. The results of this study are expected to be used to calculate more accurate bridge scour depth in river design and bridge design.

Performance optimization of applications with massive stream data processing has been performed by considering I/O data coherency problem where a memory is shared between processors and hardware accelerators. A formula for performance analyses is derived based on profiling results of system-level simulations. Our experimental results show that overall performance was improved by 1.40 times on average for various image sizes. Also, further optimization has been performed based on the parameters appeared in the derived formula. The final performance gain was 3.88 times comparing to the original design and we can find that the performance of the design with cacheable shared memory is not always.
This paper presents a sliding mode controller based on Ackermann's formula and applies it to stabilizing a two-wheeled mobile inverted pendulum in equilibrium. The mobile inverted pendulum is a system with an inverted pendulum on a mobile cart. The dynamic modeling of the mobile inverted pendulum was established under the assumptions of a cart with no slip and a pendulum with only planar motion. The proposed sliding mode controller was based upon a class of nonlinear systems whose nonlinear part of the modeling can be linearly parameterized. The sliding surface was obtained in an explicit form using Ackermann's formula, and then a control law was designed from reachability conditions and made the sliding surface attractive to the equilibrium state of the mobile inverted pendulum. The proposed controller was implemented in a Microchip PIC16F877 micro-controller. The developed overall control system is described. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the modeling and controller.
This paper describes a statistical analysis method for predicting a coast fishing boat's effective horsepower. The EHP estimation method for small coast fishing boats was developed, based on a statistical regression analysis of model test results in a circulating water channel. The statistical regression formula of a fishing boat's effective horsepower is determined from the regression analysis of the resistance test results for 15 actual coast fishing boats. This method was applied to the effective horsepower prediction of a G/T 4 ton class coast fishing boat. From the estimation of the effective horsepower using this regression formula and the experimental model test of the G/T 4 ton class coast fishing boat, the estimation accuracy was verified under 10 percent of the design speed. However, the effective horsepower prediction method for coast fishing boats using the regression formula will be used at the initial design and hull-form development stage.
Dissolution profiles of ketoconazole in solid dispersion system (SDS) were investigated in the second fluid (pH 6.8) for the dissolution test (KPV). PVP K-30 and methyl cellulose were used as carriers in SDS, and chloroform as a solvent. Computer optimization technique was applied to obtain an optimum formula of SDS, and the following results were obtained; 1) Dissolution rate of ketoconazole in SDS was larger than that of pure ketoconazole in the second fluid of pH 6.8. 2) PVP K-30 and methyl cellulosr were good carriers for SDS of ketoconazole. Moerover PVP K-30 was better than methyl cellulose. 3) The optimum formula of ketoconazole SDS obtained from computer optimization technique was chloroform 175 ml, PVP K-30 5g and methyl cellulose 0.2g per 1g of ketoconazole. 4) The experimental value of $A_{60}$ (Amount released from ketoconazole tablet during 60 minutes) obtained from SDS by optimum formula agreed well with the value calculated by polynomial regression equation.
Plate elements in fully profiled sandwich panels are generally subjected to local buckling failure modes and this behaviour is treated in design by using the conventional effective width method for plates with a width to thickness (b/t) ratio less than 100. If the plate elements are very slender (b/t > 1000), the panel failure is governed by wrinkling instead of local buckling and the strength is determined by the flexural wrinkling formula. The plate elements in fully profiled sandwich panels do not fail by wrinkling as their b/t ratio is generally in the range of 100 to 600. For this plate slenderness region, it was found that the current effective width formula overestimates the strength of the fully profiled sandwich panels whereas the wrinkling formula underestimates it. Hence a new effective width design equation has been developed for practical plate slenderness values. However, no guidelines exist to identify the plate slenderness (b/t) limits defining the local buckling, wrinkling and the intermediate regions so that appropriate design rules can be used based on plate slenderness ratios. A research study was therefore conducted using experimental and numerical studies to investigate the effect of plate slenderness ratio on the ultimate strength behaviour of foam supported steel plate elements. This paper presents the details of the study and the results.
