  • This paper investigated the effect of unevenly magnetized magnets to the cogging torque. First, through qualitative analysis of cogging torque, the generation of slot harmonic component is explained. Second, it is found that the slot harmonic can be suppressed by locating the magnets under specific condition even if the magnets are irregularly magnetized respect to each other. Finally, it is verified with the experimental result.

  • This paper proposes a subband filtering technique to the MUSIC and the ESPRIT algorithm for estimating the magnitude and frequency of the harmonics of power signal. In proposed method, the input power signal is decomposed to the odd harmonics and the even harmonics respectively by the filter bank system. The amplitude and the frequency estimation of the decomposed harmonics are carried out using the MUSIC and the ESPRIT method. Subband filtering can reduce the autocorrelation matrix size of input data, and spectrum leakage between adjacent harmonics. Therefore, this subband technique has advantage in computational cost and estimation accuracy compared to fullband MUSIC and ESPRIT. To demonstrate the performance of the method, computer simulations are performed to the synthesized input signal, and experiment results are compared in subband and fullband cases.

  • A novel T-type polyurethane 7 containing 1-(2,5-dioxyphenyl)-2-(5-(1,2,2-tricyanovinyl)-2-thienyl)ethenes as NLO chromophores, which constitute part of the polymer backbone, was prepared. Polyurethane 7 is soluble in common organic solvents such as DMF and DMSO. It shows a thermal stability up to $270^{\circ}C$ from TGA thermogram with $T_g$ value obtained from DSC thermogram near $155^{\circ}C$. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficient ($d_{33}$) of poled polymer film at 1560 nm fundamental wavelength is $3.56{\times}10^{-9}$ esu. Polymer 7 exhibits a thermal stability even at $5^{\circ}C$ higher than $T_g$, and no significant SHG decay is observed below $160^{\circ}C$, which is acceptable for nonlinear optical device applications.

  • We show that for an algebraic Riccati equation $X^*B^{-1}X-T^*X-X^*T=C$, its solutions are given by X = W + BT for some solution W of $X^*B^{-1}X$ = $C+T^*BT$. To generalize this, we give an equivalent condition for $\(\array{B&W\\W*&A}\)\;{\geq}\;0$ for given positive operators B and A, by which it can be regarded as Riccati inequality $X^*B^{-1}X{\leq}A$. As an application, the harmonic mean B ! C is explicitly written even if B and C are noninvertible.

  • This paper presents a single-phase 3-level PWM inverter to alleviate the harmonic components of output voltage and current under the conditions of identical supply DC voltage and switching frequency to the conventional inverter. Operational principles and analysis are performed, and the switching functions are derived. Deadbeat controller is also designed and implemented for the inverter to keep the output voltage being sinusoidal and to have the high dynamic performances even in the cases of load variations and the partial magnetization of filter inductor. The validity of proposed inverter is proved from the simulated and experimented results.

  • The nonlinearity parameter is frequently measured as a sensitive indicator in damaged material characterization or tissue harmonic imaging. Several previous studies have employed the plane wave solution, and ignored the effects of beam diffraction when measuring the non-linearity parameter ${\beta}$. This paper presents a multi-Gaussian beam approach to explicitly derive diffraction corrections for fundamental and second harmonics under quasilinear and paraxial approximation. Their effects on the nonlinearity parameter estimation demonstrate complicated dependence of ${\beta}$ on the transmitter-receiver geometries, frequency, and propagation distance. The diffraction effects on the non-linearity parameter estimation are important even in the nearfield region. Experiments are performed to show that improved ${\beta}$ values can be obtained by considering the diffraction effects.

  • A quantum-mechanical harmonic oscillator undergoes continuous amplitude fluctuation even in its ground state. This fluctuation, also known as the vacuum fluctuation, arises from the nonvanishing commutation .elation, [${\alpha}$, ${\alpha}$$\^$+/] = 1, where ${\alpha}$(${\alpha}$$\^$+/) is the annihilation (creation) operate. of the harmonic oscillator, One can make, however, the fluctuation of one quadrature amplitude decrease below the vacuum-state (or the coherent state) level at the cost of that of the other quadrature. • The environment. of electric railway has, included both fast and slow load variation, which may occur in the office or maintenance factory or running electric train. This paper investigated flicker indices according to voltage fluctuations on three different situations; The base office in new subway in the daytime and night time, inside of electric train running in conventional subway. And also the variations of harmonic frequencies(2nd, 3rd, 5th) with rime were measured at the same time. Flicker index is a good tool for evaluating the voltage fluctuation quantitatively and show some relationship with even harmonic frequencies produced by the voltage fluctuation when the electric train is running on the railway.

  • Conventional PDC relaying with 2nd harmonic restraint makes some doubt in reliability. It can contain second harmonic component to a large extent even during internal fault, and shows a tendency of relative reduction because of the advancement of transformer's core material. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a new algorithm as well as a new technique for the effective and accurate discrimination. This paper deals with advanced algorithm, fuzzy logic based relaying by using flux differential, and a new fault detection criterion logic scheme by using wavelet transform. To comparative analysis of proposed techniques, the paper constructs power system model including power transformer, utilizing the EMTP, and collects data through simulation of various internal faults and magnetizing inrush.

  • This paper proposes a harmonics reduction technique for the input currents of three phase PWM converters. The quality of the phase angle information on the utility voltage connected to the PWM converters affects their control performance. Under a distorted utility voltage, the extracted phase angle based on the synchronous reference frame PLL method is distorted. This causes large harmonics in the input currents of a PWM converter. In this paper, a harmonics reduction method that makes the input currents in the PWM converter sinusoidal even under distorted utility conditions is proposed. By the proposed method, without additional hardware, the THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of the input currents can be readily limited to below 5% which is the harmonic current requirements of IEEE std. 519. Its validity is verified by simulations and experimental results.
