  • The error analysis for the Time-in-Flight Laser Range Finder with Multiple Tone Amplitude Modulation relevant to the phase detection error is made. The distance can be estimated to solve the formulate which express the relationship between the absolute distance from the range finder to the object and the wavenumbers and the phases of the modulated waves by the optimization technique. The main cause of the estimation error can be considered as the phase detection error induced from the amplitude modulator and the phase detector. To clarify the phase detection error and the optimal amplitude frequency set, the numerical analysis are made.

  • This paper describes an application step of a $R^{-{\theta}}$ method which measures circular movements in machining centers. The detection of composite errors of circular movements and a high precision cutting method in machining centers were investigated by the analysis of data measured by $R^{\theta }$method which can detect the rotating angle and is applicable to variable measuring radius. When the error by squareness error and unbalance of position-loop-gain were mixed, the detection method of each error was proposed. Although the errors by squarenss error and backlash compensation were mixed, the errors by squareness error be detected. If the errors by unbalance of position-loop-gain and backlash compensation were mixed, the errors by unbalance of position-loop-gain could not detected. A high precision cutting mehod, which uses the NC program compensated by using feed-back data from error measured by the $R^{\theta }$method, was proposed.

  • This paper deals with the Appliation of robust fault detection problem in uncertain linear systems, having both model mismatch and noise. A robust fault detection method presented by Kwon et al.(1994) for SISO uncertain systems. Here we experimented this method to the diesel engine systems described by difference ARMA models. The model mismatch includes here linearization error as well as undermodeling. Comparisons are made with alternative fault detection method which do not account noise. The new method is shown to have good performance.

  • In this paper, we present Self-Checking look-up-table (LUT) based on Scalable Error Detection Coding (SEDC) scheme for use in fault-tolerant reconfigurable architectures. SEDC scheme has shorter latency than any other existing coding schemes for all unidirectional error detection and the LUT execution time remains unaffected with self-checking capabilities. SEDC scheme partitions the contents of LUT into combinations of 1-, 2-, 3- and 4-bit segments and generates corresponding check codes in parallel. We show that the proposed LUT with SEDC performs better than LUT with traditional Berger as well as Partitioned Berger Coding schemes. For 32-bit data, LUT with SEDC takes 39% less area and 6.6 times faster for self-checking than LUT with traditional Berger Coding scheme.

  • The core of the semantic web is ontology, which supports interoperability among semantic web applications and enables developer to reuse and share domain knowledge. It used a variety of fields such as Information Retrieval, E-commerce, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Bio-informatics. However, the reality is that various errors might be included in conceptual hierarchy when developing ontologies. Therefore, methodologies and supporting tools are essential to help the developer construct suitable ontologies for the given purposes and to detect and analyze errors in order to verify the inconsistency in the ontologies. In this paper we propose a new approach for ontology error detection based on the Concept Lattices of Formal Concept Analysis. By using the tool that we developed in this research, we can extract core elements from the source code of Ontology and then detect some structural errors based on the concept lattices. The results of this research can be helpful for ontology engineers to support error detection and construction of "well-defined" and "good" ontologies.

  • When memory devices are exposed to space environments, they suffer various effects such as SEU(Single Event Upset). Memory systems for space applications are generally equipped with error detection and correction(EDAC) logics against SEUs. In this paper, several error detection and correction codes - RS(10,8) code, (7,4) Hamming code and (16,8) code - are analyzed and compared with each other. Each code is implemented using VHDL and its performances(encoding/decoding speed, required memory size) are compared. Also the failure probability equation of each EDAC code is derived, and the probability value is analyzed for various occurrence rates of SEUs which the STSAT-3 possibly suffers. Finally, the EDAC algorithm for STSAT-3 is determined based on the comparison results.

  • Recent advances in technology have resulted in rapid growth in mobile communication. With this explosive growth, reliable transmission and error resilient technique become increasingly necessary to offer high quality multimedia service. The success of error resilient techniques at decoder sensitively depends on error detection performance. Therefore, this paper proposes a computationally very simple and efficient error detection technique using fragile watermark for real-time video communication. To balance between image quality degradation and error detection efficiency, fragile watermark is embedded only in least significant bits of selected transform coefficients. The proposed method is workable without additional bit in video bitstream and can be implemented very efficiently. This method will be useful in video communication in error prone environment such as wireless channel.

  • SRAM-based FPGAs are very sensitive to single event upset(SEU) induced by space irradiation. To mitigate SEU effects, space applications employ some mitigation schemes. The triple modular redundancy(TMR) is a well-known mitigation scheme. It uses one or three voters as well as three identical blocks performing the same work. The voters can mask out one error in the outputs from the three replicated blocks. One SEU error in TMRed circuits can be masked but it needs to be detected for some reasons such as to analyze the SEU effects in the satellite or to recover the circuits from the error before additional error occur. In this paper, we developed a fault detection circuit and reporting system to detect a fault on the TMRed circuits. To verify our error detection circuit and reporting circuit, we performed an irradiation test at MC-50 Cyclotron. Experimental results showed that error detection circuit can detect a fault on the TMRed test circuit in radiation environment.

  • This research proposes a indoor magnetic map matching algorithm that improves the position accuracy by employing multiple magnetic sensors and probabilistic candidate weighting function. Since the magnetic field is easily distorted by the surrounding environment, the distorted magnetic field can be used for position mapping, and multiple sensor configuration is useful to improve mapping accuracy. Nevertheless, the position error is likely to increase because the external magnetic disturbances have repeated pattern in indoor environment and several points have similar magnetic field distortion characteristics. Those errors cause large position error, which reduces the accuracy of the position detection. In order to solve this problem, we propose a method to reduce the error using multiple sensors and likelihood boundaries that uses human walking characteristics. Also, to reduce the maximum position error, we propose an algorithm that weights according to their importance. We performed indoor walking tests to evaluate the performance of the algorithm and analyzed the position detection error rate and maximum distance error. From the results we can confirm that the accuracy of position detection is greatly improved.
