거제도 다포 연안 정치망 어획물의 종조성 및 주요 어종의 분포 특성 (Species Composition and Distribution of Set-net Catches on the Coast of Dapo, Geoje Island)

  • We analyzed annual and seasonal variations in fish species composition and distribution patterns using both daily catch and quantitative analysis data collected from a set-net fishery over a period of two years (2011-2012) on the coast of Dapo, Geoje Island. Set-net fishing season in this area is from May to November, and the annual yield based on the daily catch data was 171,412 kg in 2011, and 102,611 kg in 2012. In total, there were 46 species (belonging to 36 families and 12 orders) in 2011, and 41 species (belonging to 25 families and 9 orders) in 2012. The dominant species in terms of numbers were Trachurus japonicus, Engraulis japonicus, Clupea pallasii, Scomber japonicus, and Sphyraena pinguis. The range in fork length for T. japonicus and E. japonicus was from 3.2 to 23.9 cm, and from 2.6 to 13.3 cm, respectively. The fork length of recruiting juveniles to the Dapo set-net fishing ground ranged from 4.6 to 7.8 cm (median) for T. japonicus, and from 4.1 to 5.0 cm (median) for E. japonicus. The fact that most of the fish caught from the two species were at immature growth stages implies that the coast of Dapo can act as a nursery area for these migratory species.

  • 이번 연구에 사용된 멸치는 남해 통영 연안에서 정치망과 권현망을 이용하여 채집되었다. 가랑이 체장범위는 1.9~14.7 cm로 나타났다. 멸치의 주 먹이생물은 50.4%의 상대중요도지수비를 나타낸 요각류였다. 요각류 다음으로 중요한 먹이생물은 47.3%의 상대중요도지수비를 나타낸 난바다곤쟁이류였다. 멸치의 섭식전략을 도해적 방법으로 나타낸 결과, 멸치는 섭식특화종으로 나타났다. 멸치의 성장별 먹이생물 조성 변화를 알아본 결과(<8.0 cm, 8.0~10.0 cm, 10.0~12.0 cm, ≥12.0 cm) 성장함에 따라 난바다곤쟁이류의 중요도는 증가하고, 요각류의 중요도는 감소하였다. 멸치의 계절별 먹이생물 조성 변화를 알아본 결과, 춘계, 추계, 동계에는 요각류가 우점한 먹이생물이었으며, 하계에는 난바다곤쟁이류가 우점한 먹이생물이었다.

  • The feeding habits of Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus niphonius) were studied based on the examination of stomach contents of 445 specimens collected from January to December 2004, in the Southern Sea of Korea. The size of Spanish mackerel ranged from 26.1 to 105.4 cm in fork length (FL). Spanish mackerel was a piscivorous fish which mainly consumed teleost fishes such as chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) and anchovy (Engraulis japonicus). Its diet also included small quantities of shrimps, stomatopods, cephalopods, crabs, polychaetes, amphipods, cumaceans and copepods. Smaller individuals (<60 cm FL) consumed small fishes such as Engraulis japonicus and crustaceans. The portion of these prey items decreased with increasing fish size, and this decrease was paralleled with increased consumption of lager fishes such as Scomber japonicus and Cololabis saira. The prey size increased with the increase of fish size.

남해안에 서식하는 멸치(Engraulis japonicus)의 산란 특성 (Reproductive Characteristics of Pacific Anchovy Engraulis japonicus from the Southern Waters of Korea)

  • The reproductive characteristics of Pacific anchovy, Engraulis japonicus were investigated using samples randomly collected from the southern waters of Korea between January and December 2021. We analyzed monthly changes in maturity stages, gonadosomatic index (GSI), egg diameter, fecundity, and fork length (FL) at sexual groups maturity of 50%, 75% and 97.5%, and sex ratio (female:male). GSI value showed two peaks in May and August; however, microscopic analysis of E. japonicus gonad tissue revealed that the spawning period was from March to October. The main spawning seasons for the entire populations were from April to June and August to September. The overall sex ratio was female-biased (1 females, 0.89 male). The fecundity (F) of female anchovies ranged from 429 eggs at an FL of 8.0 cm to 13,824 eggs at an FL of 14.9 cm and the relationship between FL and F was 0.0788FL4.422. The FL at 50% group maturity was 8.26 cm for female anchovies. Based on the results, we suggest that the reproductive cycle in Pacific anchovies may be related to pulses in water temperature and the sexual cycle of the fish.

  • This study estimates the target strength of anchovy Engraulis japonicus required for studying their distribution and density using acoustics and evaluates the acoustic scattering characteristics of anchovies by frequency using the Kirchoff ray mode (KRM) model. The experiment was conducted on 30 anchovies with 4.7-21.5 cm total length. The maximum TScm (Simming angle, 9.1°; standard deviation, ± 13.1°) according to total length was -66.9, -65.2, -64.4, and -63.4 dB at 38, 70, 120, and 200 kHz, respectively. The average TScm (Simming angle: 9.1°, standard deviation: ± 13.1°) according to total length was -68.9, -68.8, -69.6, and -70.0 dB at 38, 70, 120, and 200 kHz, respectively. The results of this study provide an important basis for future studies that use acoustics to estimate the target strength of anchovies.

멸치액젓 유래 저분자 물질의 항산화활성 (Antioxidative Activity of Low Molecular Weight Biocompounds Purified from Anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) Sauce)

  • Antioxidative activities of low molecular weight biocompounds purified from anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) sauce fermented at $15\pm3^{\circ}C$ for 5 years were investigated. The fermented anchovy sauce showed 5 peaks on gel chromatography pattern. Antioxidant activity of peak 2 was $82.7\%$ followed by $42.6\%$ of peak 1. Main antioxidant compounds of peak 1 were glutamic acid and lysine, but those of peak 2 were not confirmed by amino acid sequence analysis.

독도 주변해역에서 봄과 가을철 어란과 자치어의 종조성에 관한 연구 (Species Composition of Fish Eggs and Larvae in Spring and Autumn around Dokdo in the East Sea of Korea)

  • A study on the ichthyoplankton assemblage was conducted around Dokdo in the East Sea in September 1999 and May 2000. Sixteen species of fish larvae including eggs were collected during the surveys. Anchovy (Engraulis japonicus) eggs and larvae were comprised of 2.0% and 94.5% of total samples in number, respectively. Muller's pearlside (Maurolicus muelleri) eggs and larvae were comprised of 95.0% and 3.2%, respectively. The other species mostly composed of warm water species were less than 2% of total samples in number. The number of species and abundance of the fish lawae and eggs were higher in September than in May. Although there were limited data on the ichthyoplankton around Dokdo in summer and winter, this study area seems to be used for the spawning or nursery ground of fishes.

  • The feeding habits of chub mackerel (Scomber japonicus) were studied based on an examination of the stomach contents of 512 specimens collected between November 2005 and October 2006 in the South Sea of Korea. The specimens ranged in fork length (FL) from 23.4-37.5 cm. Chub mackerel is a piscivore and consumes mainly Teleosts such as Engraulis japonicus. Its diet also includes amphipods, crabs, Euphausia, chaetognaths and shrimp. Smaller individuals (<26 cm FL) consume mainly crabs. The proportion of these prey items decreases with increasing fish size, and this decrease paralleles the increased consumption of fish. The prey size increases with S. japonicus size.

  • 줄삼치(Sarda orientalis)는 2015년 1월부터 12월까지 제주 주변해역에서 고등어 선망어선에 혼획된 288개체를 이용하였으며, 가랑이체장(fork length)과 체중을 각각 0.1 cm와 0.1 g까지 측정한 뒤 해부하여 먹이생물의 크기와 무게를 측정하고 최대한 종 수준까지 분석하였다. 먹이생물은 상대중요성지수비(%IRI)를 이용해 분석하였으며, 크기군과 계절에 따른 먹이조성 변화를 알아보았다. 줄삼치의 가장 중요한 먹이생물은 어류(Pisces)였으며, 그중에서도 멸치(Engraulis japonicus)가 가장 높은 비율을 보였다. 그 외 난바다곤쟁이류(Euphausiacea), 단각류(Amphipoda), 두족류(Cephalopoda)가 출현하였으나 그 양은 적었다. 줄삼치는 모든 크기군과 계절에서 어류가 가장 중요한 먹이생물이었으며, 성장하면서 먹이생물의 중량이 증가하였다.

  • 1997년 4월부터 11월 사이에 전라북도 고군산군도 주변 해역에서 낭장망에 어획된 수산생물의 종조성과 계절에 따른 양적 변동을 파악하고, 계절별 낮 밤의 어획물 종조성 차이를 분석하였다. 조사기간 중 총 75종이 출현하였으며, 이중 어류가 71%로 대부분을 차지하였고, 새우류 18%, 두족류 7%, 게류 4%이었다. 흰베도라치(Pholis fangi)가 전체 개체수의 44.3%, 멸치(Engraulis japonicus)가 42.8%로 이들 2종이 전체의 87.1%를 차지하였으며, 대부분이 치어나 유어 단계의 어린 개체이었다. 흰베도라치, 멸치, 까나리(Ammodyres personatus) 등은 연안에서 어린 시기를 보육장으로 이용하는데, 그 시기를 서로 달리하였다. 조사 해역에서 부유성 유어는 주 야간에 양적으로 유의한 차이가 있었다.
