  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between self-leadership and teamwork in cooperative learning of capstone design. The results showed significant relationship between self-leadership and teamwork, with high self-leadership group obtaining higher teamwork scores than low self-leadership group. The results of stepwise analysis suggested that cognitive-oriented strategies, including cooperating more pleasant and enjoyable features into a given task, focusing on the task's inherently rewarding aspects, and focusing thoughts on positive aspects of the task, were the best predictors of overall teamwork. Therefore, it would be useful to provide the engineering students with the opportunities to develop their cognitive-oriented self-leadership strategies.

  • This paper investigated how three representative domestic and international engineering education journals explored societal supports contributing to retention and persistence in engineering, especially among women. An integrative literature review of engineering education journals was carried out to identify the flow of research and practice of engineering education for females. The findings indicate that retention and persistence of women in engineering is closely relevant to issues of diversity management, collaboration competency, and self-leadership.

  • This study was conducted to compare the learning styles and self-leadership between engineering college students with high and low team performance records. About 70% of students in high team performance group showed learning styles of converger and accommodator, whereas about 67% of students in low team performance group showed learning styles of accommodator and diverger. In regard to self-leadership, high team performance group showed higher level of self-leadership, especially self-observation, self-punishment, natural reward strategies, visualizing successful performance, self-talk, and evaluating beliefs and assumptions. It is recommended to provide the engineering students with the specialized training program to complement their learning styles and self-leadership strategies.

  • This paper is to understanding the recent research trend of leadership. To this end, it is intended to grasp the research trend of leadership by using foreign academic databases such as SCOPUS and SPRINGER. As a result of the analysis, it was found that a lot of research has been conducted in management, human resource management, organization, etc., which have traditionally been studied. However, in addition to this field, research in the fields of Nursing, Engineering, Computer Science, and Education has been steadily increasing. This shows that the study of leadership is becoming important not only in companies and specific organizations, but also in various disciplines. In particular, as leadership is becoming more important than ever, it is expected that research on leadership will continue to be carried out with interest in many fields.

  • This study was conducted to compare the self-leadership strategies and locus of control between the problem-solving styles in the Korean engineering college students. Creative problem-solving styles were identified based on the three dimensions. The results of the two-way analysis of variances indicated the main effects of problem-solving styles; each problem-solving style had unique characteristics in relation to self-leadership strategies and locus of control. There were neither main effects of sex nor interaction effects of problem-solving styles and sex. It would be useful to provide the engineering students with the specialized self-leadership training program based on the problem-solving styles.

  • In this paper, we propose a new program for university student's IT leadership renovation. Automation and Artificial Intelligence(AI) are changing the nature of work. According to MGI report, they will change the skills needed in the workforce. Leadership is one of the skills needed more of in the future at workplace including IT industry. Leadership could be defined as having 5 level leadership. According to the 5 level leadership, a program was formulated to renovate university student's self-leadership, teamwork, team leadership and finally global leadership. We named the program as Stepping-Stone Platform for Student's IT Leadership Renovation(SSP-SLR). Each level of four stepping stones consists of one semester. Student can raise their leadership skills by the program step by step. Various instruction learning methodologies are adopted to the program, including Flipped learning which has been proved effective in many ways in the field of education recently.

  • This study investigated the mediating effect of engineering design self-efficacy on the relationship between self-leadership and perceived team creativity. Participants were 110 engineering college students pursuing team projects. Engineering design self-efficacy showed complete mediation effects on the relationships between perceived team creativity and self-reward and evaluating beliefs and assumptions. Partial mediation effect of engineering design self-efficacy was found on the relationship between perceived team creativity and natural reward. Finally, limitations of this study and suggestions for future studies were discussed.

  • Utsunomiya University started a 3-year project to develop an education program for postgraduate students to cultivate leadership spirits. The program is centered on a PBL in which each group of students is required to find an engineering or social problem themselves and start a project to solve the problem. Projects vary widely, from a straight product development to a summer program for children or local area development. Student groups are advised by senior engineers from industries. They give advice as to how a project should be managed and run, but will not give instructions. The PBL is compulsory for all students in the engineering master course students. The new education program also includes a series of lectures by engineers to show engineers' job, activities, and career in the industry. Internship programs are also provided, in which students will be given opportunities to actively apply their knowledge and skills to real engineering tasks offered by the industry. The students are expected to gain something more than just experiences.

  • This study focuses on safety behavior among research workers and investigates the factors influencing their safety behavior. The selected variables for examining their impact on researchers' safety behavior are safety leadership, safety climate, and safety motivation. Surveys were conducted to analyze the structural equation modeling among these variables. The results indicate that the safety leadership of research supervisors positively influences the creation of a safety climate in research laboratories. Additionally, the safety climate positively impacts research workers' safety motivation and behavior. Therefore, to enhance the safety behavior of research workers, it is necessary to strengthen safety leadership education to improve the safety leadership of laboratory supervisors. The laboratory can enhance its safety climate by implementing management policies and safety regulations, fostering communication among members, and providing safety education.

  • This study was conducted to compare the self-leadership strategies and self-efficacy among the four types of career development in the Korean engineering college students. When the two variables including career decision level and career preparation behavior were considered, four different types of career development were obtained: immature, behavioral, pseudo, and ideal type. The results showed that the ideal type obtained the significantly higher scores on the self-leadership and self-efficacy scales than the other three types. The results of stepwise analysis suggested that each subtype had unique characteristics in relation to self-leadership strategies. Therefore, it would be useful to provide the engineering students with the specialized self-leadership training program based on the types of career development.
