Do Risk-Taking, Innovativeness, and Proactivity Affect Business Performance of SMEs? A Case Study in Bangladesh

  • In the current technology-driven era, Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) have been deemed as one of the leading and prominent drivers of sustainable economic progress in emerging and developing economies such as in the Bangladesh context. Hence, it is of significance to understand what might fuel accelerating performance of SME business as increased SME performance will bring about more sustainability and strong development of SME sector within the country, through which more employment is anticipated to be generated. Therefore, the current study examines the impact of three factors: risk-taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness on SME performance in Bangladesh. The study has gathered data from SME entities in Dhaka city of Bangladesh, by applying a non-probability sampling strategy. 250 SME owners were contacted to act as respondents and finally, 180 SME owners fully completed the survey questionnaire, indicating that the final sample size is n=180. SPSS is used as a purpose of testing the hypotheses by considering a 5% significance level as acceptance criteria of the hypothesis. Hierarchical regression analysis was run to understand the impact of control variables and independent variables on SME performance and found that age of business, risk-taking, innovativeness, and proactiveness have an important impact on SME performance in Bangladesh.

  • 본 연구는 인사관리의 운영방식이 기업의 성과에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 첫째, 인사관리의 일차적인 목표, 인재선발방식, 인사관리의 운영방향은 거의 모든 성과변수에 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 인사관리의 일차적인 목표를 고정적인 인건비 절감보다는 근로자의 애사심 고취에 둘수록, 단기고용의 외부충원보다는 장기고용의 내부육성방식을 선호할수록, 단기적 성과 향상보다는 장기적 관점에서의 근로자 육성 개발에 무게를 둘수록 노동생산성, 제품 및 서비스의 질과 혁신성, 근로자 주도 혁신활동, 이직률 감소, 노사관계에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 한편, 인사관리의 일차적인 목표와 인재선발방식은 재무적 성과에도 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으나, 인사관리 운영방향은 재무적 성과에는 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했다. 둘째, 주 활용근로자 유형은 제품 및 서비스의 질과 노사관계에 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 비정규직보다 정규직 근로자를 활용하려는 노력은 제품 및 서비스의 질과 노사관계에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 셋째, 인사관리의 운영 단위는 제품 및 서비스의 혁신 정도에 영향을 미쳤다. 즉, 인사관리의 운영 단위를 팀워크보다는 개인의 업적/성과에 둘수록 제품 및 서비스의 혁신 정도에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 본 연구는 대규모 패널 데이터 분석으로 인사관리의 운영방식이 기업의 재무적 또는 비재무적 성과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 그 효과를 구체적으로 검증한 데 의미가 있다.

남자 임상간호사의 경험에 관한 내용분석 (Content Analysis of Male Hospital Nurses' Experiences)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify job experiences of male hospital nurses. Methods: Data were collected from 20 male nurses working at general hospitals, through semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interviews were recorded and subsequently transcribed verbatim. Using content analysis, data were coded and categorized. Results: The analyzed domains were motivations for choosing nursing, occupational experiences (3 subdomains), and attitudes toward the future. A total of 85 significant statements were selected from the data and classified into 32 categories. The nurses' motivations for choosing nursing were advantages of employment, their aptitude, scarcity value of men, professionalism and job security, good promotion, stable income, and family influence. In occupational experiences, they were assigned to special fields and dissatisfied with vertical relationship, promotion system, their salary, and gaps in military service time; they had difficulties in adapting to female-dominated groups and encountered gender role stereotype and preconception; they were satisfied with their distinguished performance, but had damaged self-esteem, and were stressed and disappointed in their work. In their attitudes toward the future, they considered their career changes, but tried to make professional and personal advancement. Conclusion: These findings have implications for recruiting and retaining male nurses in clinical settings.

임금피크제의 효과적 운용방안 (A Study on Effective Operation of Wage Peak System in Korean Enterprises)

  • 한국은 급속도로 고령화시대로 접어들고 있다. 증가하는 고령 근로자들은 연공급 임금체계를 가져가고 있는 한국기업들에게 부담을 주고 있다. 임금피크제는 한국기업들이 임금부담에서 오는 조기퇴직 압박을 완화시키기 위한 대안으로 도입해오고 있다. 현재 한국 기업들이 채택하고 있는 임금피크제는 주로 고용보장형이다. 그러나 앞으로는 고령화 시대에 대비해 고용연장형을 적극적으로 도입해야 할 것이다. 임금피크제를 성공적으로 운영하기위해서는 개인별 임금피크제를 도입하고, 고령근로자를 위한 적절한 업무를 개발해야할 것이다. 그리고 직종별 선별적용, 성과평가를 통한 차등화된 보상, 임금감소에 따른 실질적인 근로시간 단축이 필요할 것이다.

산업안전보건법의 한계와 민간기준의 활용에 관한 연구 (A Study on Legal Limits of Occupational Safety & Health Law and Application of Private Standards)

  • Objectives: The present system of occupational safety and health law gives priority to traditional command and control regulations. However, this may give rise to problems such as the delay of standard-setting and shortages of human resources. The aim of this study is to examine the usability of private standards in occupational safety and health systems. Materials: After the limits of occupational safety and health law were examined, an application plan for private norms (EN, as enforced in the EU) and occupational safety and health management systems (OSHMS) was investigated. Results: The utilization of private norms and OSHMS may address the limits of the current legal system. In particular, OSHMS is known internationally as a measure for achieving improvements in overall occupational safety and health performance. As a result, occupational safety and health law and private norms/OSHMS are complementary to one another. Conclusions: Even though the utilization of private standards may give rise to legal questions, such standards as complementary measures to traditional command and control regulations need to be utilized progressively in occupational safety and health systems.

병원경영 전문인력에게 요구되는 역량 및 자격 (The Competency and Qualifications for Mid-managers in Hospitals)

  • Despite of increasing importance of management in healthcare administration and demand for the professional managers in hospitals, there have been few studies on the issues of competencies and qualifications of mid-managers for effective role performance. This article uses hospital mid-managers' judgements to discuss them in Korean hospital settings. Based on 67 questionnaires completed through the mail survey, the data were analyzed by chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA, and logistic regression. The result shows that knowledge of management skills in healthcare field is the most necessary area in general. Specifically, 'problem-solving ability' is the most important competency, followed by communication and planning capabilities. The mid-managers tend to consider the hospital employment history more important than the academic level. They also present the willingness to recruit the candidates with bachelor degrees rather than those with master or Ph.D. degrees. It is suggested that the candidate with bachelor degree and hospital employment over 6 to 10 years is the most qualified for a mid-manager in hospitals. The study results presented in the paper will provide the direction to improve the educational program and also the insights toward a advising strategy for job consultation for students majored in health service administration.

수도권 주부의 취업유무에 따른 가사작업수행과 코하우징 요구의 차이 (Housework Performance and Difference of Cohousing Need Depending on the Housewife's Employment Status in the Metropolitan area)

  • The purposed of this research was to suggest a basic material of Korean-typed cohousing plan for a dual-income family by examining the difference of cohousing residing environment needs. Selecting Employed and unemployed housewives as this research's subject, the following results were drawn from the analysis between the two groups. 1) The housewives takes responsibility of the household works regardless of whether or not they are employed. Also, more than half of employed housewives stated that the time of nursery facilities was shorter than their needs and that they favored a nursery facility located inside the residential area. 2) The most meaningful difference of cohousing residing environment needs was the demand for sharing household work in terms of cohousing need of the subjects. The desirable cohousing area is the suburbs of the metropolitan areas and the preferable resident organization is need to be organized by people sharing the same goal through an announcement. 3) The need of cohousing and residence intention were generally low, but the employed housewives' need was higher than the unemployed ones.

Performance Analysis of Large CDMA Random Access Systems with Retransmission Diversity over Fading Channels

  • The random access systems, with retransmission diversity (RD) employment, over large random spreading code division multiple access (CDMA) channel subject to fading is investigated, under the assumption of infinite number of users and infinite spreading gain with their ratio converging to a constant. The low bound of the signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) is shown to converge almost surely to a constant. The throughput, spectrum efficiency and energy efficiency in the dominating systems are obtained. The analytical results are confirmed by simulations. We find that in high traffic loads the throughput with fading is higher than that without. When the energy efficiency increases, the spectrum efficiency tends to two contrary values due to SNR increases or decreases. For the ordinary stable systems, the stability region is shown to shrink as the traffic increases and enlarge with RD employment.

  • Recently, the Ministry of Employment and Labor Management is a trend to strengthen all men death rate than the accident rate. Dominant Stockholder Illegality and Enterprise Value : Focusing on Korean Firm Cases

  • This research is a case study that focuses on how conglomerate illegality and corresponding penalty affects corporate performance and strategy. The research aims to provide base information for policy-makers as well as the general public about the corporate environment. The analysis results can be summarized as follows. First, profitability is represented as an M-curve. Profitability falls from indictment to the final pronouncement of the corporate head and increases upon his or her return. The result suggests that the absence of a corporate head could result in low profitability as the firm is exposed to owner risk. Secondly, significant effects on investment were not found. Investment showed a continuous increase from indictment to final judgment. This could have resulted from investment decisions made prior to the indictment, which are generally long-term. Meanwhile, the rate at which investments rose for core subsidiaries were lower, which makes it reasonable to suspect dwindling executive capacity due to the absence of a corporate head. Thirdly, employment showed a slight increase, but the rate was found to be greater during the periods following the final judgment. From a political perspective, this increase can be inferred from a give-and-take tradeoff between corporate employment and the pardon of the corporate head.
