Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze and clarify the concept of shift work maladaptation syndrome and to facilitate development of interventions for the shift work adaptation. Methods: This study used Walker and Avant's concept analysis process. Results: Shift work maladaptation syndrome can be defined as the following attributes: 1) destruction of the circadian rhythm, 2) existence of a threshold, 3) individual characteristics (year of career, type of personality, and type of coping) 4) somatization, and 5) negative emotional conditions. The antecedents of shift work maladaptation syndrome consist of counterclockwise shift work, irregular shift cycle, night work which is breaking circadian rhythm, and lifestyle changing. The consequences as a result of shift work maladaptation syndrome are deterioration of health (gastrointestinal, neuro-psychic, cardiovascular function), reduction of social relationships, and turnover or resign. Conclusion: The results of this study can be useful as the foundation of shift work adaptation implementation.
The link between work life and family life is an essential subject matter in understanding the lives of dual-earner couples. Concepts of spillover and crossover explain the link between work and family. The present study examines both the positive and negative aspects in these processes. The data come from the Sloan Working Families Study conducted by the Alfred P. Sloan Center on Parents, Children, and Work and NORC at the University of Chicago. The Experience Sampling Method employed explores directly the daily life experiences of the participants. The data were analysed using t-test. Both spillover and crossover were found in the lives of dual-earner couples in this study. Men and women brought happy emotions at work to home, but the data provide limited support for spillover of negative emotions. Gender differences were more apparent in examining the process of crossover. Men appear responsive to the positive and negative emotional experiences their spouse brought home while women were found not to be responsive to their spouses' positive emotional experiences at work. Furthermore, the analysis revealed an interesting trend concerning the emotions of working couples in that they generally seem to recover to their average level of emotions once home. This suggests that home can be a respite from strong emotions, a comforting place. By looking closely into the emotions experienced by working parents in their daily lives, this study adds contextual understanding concerning the link between work and family life. The findings on the effects of positive experiences at work invite social work practitioners and researchers to further investigate the phenomena of spillover and crossover processed in greater detail, taking into account this contextual aspect of family life as well as the work life of dual-earner couples.

This study examines the relationship between emotional labor and depression in dental hygienists. Data were collected from 186 dental hygienists working in dental clinics in Daegu from early March to early April 2016. The survey was composed of questionnaires related to general characteristics, work-related characteristics, emotional labor, and depression. As a result of analyzing the subordinate factors of emotional labor, 57.0% of the factors of 'organization support and protection system' were the highest, and the effect of emotional labor on depression was 'emotionaldisharmony and damage', 'Organizational support and protection system', and especially, the ' emotionaldisharmany and damage' factors were 4.042 times higher than normal. The dental hygienist's degree of emotional labor risk is high, and education, prevention and management measures for emotional labor will be prepared. In addition, emotional labor affects the depression of dental hygienists as well, and comprehensive mental health measures are needed to take into consideration general and occupational characteristics that affect depression.
This study was surveyed the knowledge and attitude toward the elderly in dental personnels, who play an important role in oral health of the elderly in the aging society, In order to arrange the basic data that is conducive to development in the mouth care of the elderly, the research was conducted from January 7 to February 14, 2008, targeting 270 dental personnels in Daejeon & Chungnam area, who are in charge of oral duties in the current clinic. As a result of analyzing so that questionnaire can be prepared with the self-administered questionnaire, the following results were obtained 1. The knowledge level on the elderly in dental hygienist was 13.47 marks out of 25-mark perfection. There was no difference in knowledge depending on job category and volunteer-work activity experience, And, there was no difference even depending on physical & physiological sphere, psychological sphere, and family & social sphere. 2. The attitude level toward the elderly in dental hygienist was 91.63 marks out of 150-mark perfection. Dental hygienist showed positive attitude in personality characteristic, emotional characteristic, and self-management ability by sphere, and showed statistically significant difference (p=0.011). 3. In case of having volunteer-work activity experience, the attitude level toward the elderly was 92.57 marks out of 150-mark perfection, A case of having volunteer-work activity experience showed positive tendency in emotional characteristic, self-management ability, and judgement-ability characteristic by sphere, And, the attitude toward family relation was indicated to be negative tendency, thus there was statistical significance(p=0.022). 4. As for the correlation between knowledge and attitude toward the elderly, dental hygienist was indicated to have high interest in the volunteer-work experience, the elderly education experience, and the elderly problem(r=0. 444). The knowledge and attitude toward the elderly had slightly positive correlation(r=0.155). Dental hygienists are being required gradually as the primary staff for the elderly people's dental care in the aging society. A continuous education is needed so that dental hygienists can have positive sight in understanding, knowledge, and attitude. And, the development in a mouth care program for the elderly in line with it is considered to be necessary.
During the 1970s, as Los Angeles-based designer April Greiman made her professional way, her work was popularly labeled "New Wave: The term no longer seems to fit. Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the wellness of call center employees. Methods: From December 2018 to October 2019, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 155 workers recruited from the call centers in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaires. The questionnaires were used to measure the following scales: Korean occupational stress scale, emotional labor scale, work-life balance scale and wellness scale. Using the SPSS 26.0 program, the descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results: The mean score of the wellness level of call center employees was 3.05 out of a maximum of 5.00. More wellness level of call center employees was associated with gender, psychiatric diagnosis, and call characteristics. A multiple regression analysis indicated that the total scores on the wellness scale were predicted by call characteristics, occupational stress and work-life balance, with an explanatory power of 42.2%. Conclusion: Study findings show that it is necessary to promote wellness in call center workers with differentiated strategies according to call characteristics, occupational stress and work-life balance. This implies that it is necessary to understand the call characteristics and patterns of workers and to provide an innovative wellness program tailored to individual characteristics for an effective management of the emotional labor and occupational stress.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of emotional labor and job stress on patient safety management activities in emergency room nurse. Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 143 nurses working in the emergency room of small and medium-sized hospitals. As factors influencing patient safety management activities, emotional labor, job stress, demographic characteristics, and work characteristics were investigated. Stepwise multiple regression analysis were used for factors affecting patient safety management activities. There were significant differences in patient safety management activities by age, experience in emergency room, position, work pattern, and intention to move to another department. In the regression analysis, the factors that had a significant effect on patient safety management activities were job stress and choice to work in the emergency room, and the explanatory power of these variables was 27%. It was found that the higher the job stress, the lower the patient safety management activity. In conclusion, it is necessary to manage job stress arrange departments according to individual needs to improve patient safety management activities of nurses in the emergency room of small and medium-sized hospitals.

This study examined the effects of ego-resilience and emotional labor on work-family conflicts among middle-aged female workers. Data were collected through self-reported structured questionnaires of 148 middle-aged female workers from October 2, 2013 to April 10, 2014. The results suggest that the mean score of work-family conflict was 25.59 (SD=11.99) and there were significant differences in living arrangements (F=4.32, p=.015), monthly living expenses (r=.18, p=.028), and job satisfaction (F=6.33, p<.001) by work-family conflict. Work-family conflict was negatively related to ego-resilience (r=-.28 p=.001). Living arrangement (living with parents, children) (${\beta}=.29$, p=.045), monthly living expenses (${\beta}=.22$, p=.006), job satisfaction (${\beta}=-.20$, p=.015), and ego-resilience (${\beta}=-.28$, p<.001) were identified as significant predictors of work-family conflict. This model explained about 19.0% of work-family conflict in middle-aged female workers (F=6.61 p<.001). Therefore, as a strategy to reduce the level of work-family conflict in middle-aged female workers, it is necessary to consider socioeconomic factors such as living arrangements and living expenses that affect work-family conflicts. Moreover, applying psychological intervention to improve job satisfaction and ego-resilience of middle-aged women in the working environment will help reduce work-family conflicts.
Purpose: The purpose of this study were to investigate the health status and to identify the influencing factors on health status by gender among service workers. Method: Data were collected from the self-reported survey of 781 service workers in sales, food & lodging industry. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS Win 10.0. Result: The influencing factors of male workers' health status were job satisfaction, standing hour during work time, physical work environment, job demand and family support. The influencing factors of female workers' health status were job satisfaction, emotional labor, physical work environment, regular exercise, standing hour during work time, social support and age. Conclusion: Gender specific occupational Health program for service workers should be developed in consideration of these influencing factors.

This study is descriptive research conducted to determine the levels of depression, emotional intelligence, and psychological well-being of nurses employed in small-and medium-sized hospitals, as well as to identify the correlations of these variables, predict factors influencing nurses' psychological well-being, and finally, test the mediating effects of emotional intelligence in the relationship between depression and psychological well-being. The subjects of the study included 336 nurses employed in small-and medium-sized hospitals located in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Using a structured questionnaire, a sample was taken from December 17, 2016 to January 8, 2017. The results that the nurses showed an average level of depression with a mean score of 1.55 points, while their mean scores of emotional intelligence and psychological well-being were above average (3.05 and 3.51 scores, respectively). Depression exhibited negative (-) correlations with emotional intelligence and psychological well-being, whereas emotional intelligence had a positive (+) correlation with psychological well-being. The significant predictors of psychological well-being were found to include sleep hours (${\beta}=0.111$), working department (${\beta}=0.236$), and depression (${\beta}=-0.245$). Moreover, evaluation of the mediating effects of emotional intelligence revealed significant relationships between depression and regulation of emotion (${\beta}=0.527$) and between depression and emotional utilization (${\beta}=0.167$). In conclusion, the work environment and depression were predicted to be major factors influencing psychological well-being, while emotional intelligence was found to be a partially mediating factor. Overall, these results demonstrate that easing depression and improving emotional intelligence can be very positive countermeasures in revitalizing the hospital organization, as well as in ensuring the happiness of individual nurses. Therefore, interventions aimed at improving work environments and easing depression are required to improve nurses' psychological well-being.
