  • In this paper, we review recently emerging smart applications, and analyzed policy implications in light of digital convergence perspective. While extant literatures on smart applications mainly dealt with consumer behaviors based in technology acceptance model or innovation adoption, the research on digital management policy is rather limited. We intend to fill this research gap. As such, we first organize two categories of smart work and smart commerce, and investigate the representative service models, four service models were reviewed for each category respectively. Next, the three policy related constructs are extracted, which are QoL(Quality of Life), public impacts in both the positive and negative ways. Finally, empirical analysis following the Delphi principle was conducted to investigate the policy implications. The results offer useful insights for the further research in digital convergence related policy areas.

  • Since 1960s, cryogenic cooling technologies has been adopted in the development of spacecraft with components that must be cooled to cryogenic temperatures of 2 to 150 K. In recent years this technology has been a substantial growth in the emerging number of programs that include such spacecraft to service scientific, military, and weather observation missions. The cooling of optics and detectors to reduce signal noise in infrared (IR) telescopes is the principal applications of cryogenic cooling technologies. The choice of cooling technologies depends on the desired temperature level, the amount of heat to be removed, and the required operating life. This paper will present the status of modern cryogenic cooling technologies especially for space application.

  • Recently, stem cell-mediated gene therapy is emerging as a novel therapeutic approach. For the successful gene modification of stem cells, the development of a suitable gene transfer technique needs to be preceded. This review focuses on the various gene transfer techniques based on nonviral and viral vectors, and physical methods. The advantages and disadvantages of each gene transfer method are compared, and the general properties of these vectors are discussed in relation to the gene transfer in stem cell research. This review also highlights the therapeutic application of stem cell-mediated gene therapy. The choice of gene transfer vectors may vary depending on the type of the stem cells and the target of stem cell therapy. Of various gene transfer methods, viral vector-based gene therapy has been emphasized due to the higher transfection efficiency. The current status and up-to-date findings of stem cell-mediated gene therapy are discussed in the viewpoint of the various targets of stem cell therapy such as the modification of stem cell potency, the acceleration of regeneration process and the formation of expressional organization.

  • Membrane technology has gained tremendous acceptance by industry in recent years. A long dormant period of laboratory research in academia and industry has evolved into a new era of commercial growth. The total sale of membranes is still modest compared to the major technologies, yet it is one of the fastest growing industries. This can be best illustrated by inspecting the market place. In 1990, the total sales of worldwide membranes was estimated to be approximately $ 1.6 billion with an annual increase rate of 15%. This means that the estimated total sales of membrane based industry is nearly $ 5 billion annually. Equally important evidence is an increase in research activities, as demonstrated by the explosion of publications and proliferation of membrane meetings. A number of research centers have sprung up around the world in addition to newly emerging membrane companies and membrane research groups eventually translated into some form of publication. As an example of the rapid growth in membrane research, the number of papers submitted to the Journal of Membrane Science alone was almost 2000 and the number of papers accepted was over 1300 in 1990.The worldwide membrane research expenditure in 1990 was estimated to be around $ 127 million consisting of $ 76 million(60%) by industry and $ 51 million by governments, which can be broken down to $11 million in the U.SA., $ 20 million in Japan, and $ 20 million in Europe.

  • This literature review explores relevant research and evaluation on pedagogy and physical learning spaces. This study also is intended to encourage discussion among stakeholders on the best medical school developments, in light of emerging learning trends relevant to their institutions. The study has revealed that new environments for learning are being designed or reshaped in response to changing pedagogical approaches, to incorporate new information technology, and to accommodate the changing abilities of new generations of learners. Formal teaching spaces for large groups with a 'sage on a stage' are becoming less common than smaller lecture rooms, although classrooms form a large component of universities and will continue to dominate in the future. However, the traditional layout of these spaces is being transformed to incorporate multiple learning modes. Classrooms should be profound places of revelation and discovery. A well-designed space has the ability to elevate discourse, encourage creativity, and promote collaboration. Within the classroom walls, a learning space should be as flexible as possible, not only because different teachers and classes require different configurations, but because in order to fully engage in learning, students need to transition between lectures, group study, presentations, discussions, and individual work time.

  • We build middleware architecture with J2EE and LiveGraph to process different ubiquitous healthcare application's data and process that data into useful information, which can play a most important role in decision making in ubiquitous Healthcare System. Application developers mostly rely on third party middleware, tools and libraries (i.e., webservers, distributed middleware such as CORBA, etc.) to respond the emerging trends of their target domain. With this middleware we tried to enhance the efficiency of application by decrease their memory uses, data processing and decision making on another web module which is independent of each application. For middleware system, we proposed an algorithm by which we can find some important conclusion about different health status likewise ECG, Accelerometer. etc., which can be used in various data processing and determine the current health status. In this paper we also analyze some different low level and high level middleware technology which were used to build different kind middleware likewise CAMUS, MiLAN and try to find the best solution in the form of middleware for Ubiquitous Healthcare Information System.

  • Quality of life today is being enhanced through technology and economic activities, but time for leisure has continued to shrink. In this modern society, a phenomenon is appearing in which people are trying to return to their pure and childlike worlds to relieve themselves from the pressures of stress, anxiety, and feelings of crisis in their repetitive and boring daily lives. Along with the struggle for existence that they feel, this shows how modern people hold on to nostalgic elements experienced in their childhood, and have a tendency to want to express those experiences through consumer activities. As positive opinions stating that such consumer activities not only relieve stress, but also help psychological stability are emerging, consumer trends for the development of fashion products which reflect 'Kidult' emotions are becoming increasingly popular. Not only that, with interior products, the need for the development of differentiated designs which are focused on consumers and which reflect consumer demands is being magnified as they are very important as living designs within the consumption environments of modern people. As such, the goal of this study is to develop textile pattern designs for kidult interior products for adults.

  • The scholarly communication crisis is not a journals crisis, but rather a broader crisis in information communications. It is the loss of access to the scholarly research literature, as the rising cost of STM journal subscriptions far out-strip academic library budgets. Now, the open access as alternatives to traditional journal subscription model are emerging for STM scholarly information. There are basically three forms for OA strategies : Open Access Journals(OAJ), Author Self Archiving(ASA), Academic Institutional Repositories(AIR). This paper describes the current trends and analyses potentially serious limitations and obstacles or various issues of the OA strategies, including the notion of scholarly information as a public good, myths of free access, author pay model, holder of copyright, etc.
