초등학교 저학년 교과서의 성교육 내용분석 (Analysis of Sexuality Content in Textbooks for Students in Lower Grades of Elementary School)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a sexuality education course of study for students in the lower grades of elementary school. Method: On the basis of the sexuality education guidebook for elementary school students published by Korea Ministry of Education & Human Resources Development, the state-designated textbooks for first to third grade were analyzed. Results: 1) In the category of physical and psychological development, physical development and psychosexual development content were covered, but not sexual health content. 2) In the category of understanding of human relationship, marriage and family, and the opposite sex and love were presented but self-determination and selection were only partially presented. 3) In the category of sexual culture and sexual ethics, sexual role in society was covered, but not social environment or equality of the sexes. Conclusion: These results suggest that content on sexuality which is not covered in textbooks for students in lower grades should be included in other school courses or activities in class.

  • Since textbooks for elementary school mathematics in accordance with the seventh curriculum are 'Class I' textbooks, which are used as one and only one textbooks throughout the country, the following aspects have been considered: In the legal aspect, the contents including the curriculum for mathematics asked of the Writing Committee by the Ministry of Education were reflected; in the aspect of theory of mathematics education, the textbooks are written in a way appropriate to theory of mathematics education; and in the aspect of application of reality, the textbooks are written to help improving mathematics education in classrooms. Therefore, the main frame of writing the textbooks is to make students feel proud enough to say "I have done mathematics", through helping students rationally solve problems surrounding them by themselves with their experiences and activities. In the above viewpoint the following sentence is reflected upon: "Hundred explanations are not equal to one manipulation activity."

Elementary Teachers' Use of Mathematical Textbooks in Korea

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze Korean teacher textbook use and explore the effective use of textbooks. The researcher surveyed teachers to obtain information relative to their dispositions and views of textbook use, and a subset interviewed to obtain additional insight about these views. For the sample, 278 elementary school teachers were surveyed and a group interview was conducted with 6 teachers. The results showed that many teachers teach all the students simply by following the textbook content. These results suggest that for effective us of textbooks, teachers need to understand how to reconstruct the textbook within an understanding of the textbook authors' intension for the textbook content.

초등학교 수학 교과서의 구성 체제 비교 및 교사 선호도 조사 (A Comparative Study on Unit and Lesson Frameworks of Elementary Mathematics Textbooks and Research on Teachers' Preference)

  • 교과서에 대한 의존도가 높은 초등학교 수업 장면을 고려할 때 교과서의 구성 체제가 수학 수업에 미치는 영향은 크다고 할 수 있다. 특히 교사의 수업 계획은 교과서의 단원 및 차시를 토대로 이루어지기 때문에 단원 및 차시 구성 체제는 수학수업과 직결되는 중요한 요소이다. 이에 본 연구는 초등학교 수학 교과서의 단원 및 차시 구성 체제에 대한 종적, 횡적 비교 분석을 실시하고 그로부터 추출한 주요 특징에 대해 초등학교 교사들의 선호도를 조사하였다. 연구 결과는 우리나라 교육과정기별 수학 교과서 및 한국, 일본, 미국, 핀란드 수학 교과서의 구성 체제에는 몇 가지 차이가 있음을 보여주며, 그에 기초하여 구성한 설문 조사 결과, 초등학교 교사들이 선호하는 단원 및 차시 구성 체제를 파악할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구결과로부터 교과서 개발 시 구성 체제 측면에 있어서의 몇 가지 시사점을 제안하였다.

제7차 초등학교 과학 교과서 물질 영역에 제시된 발문 분석 (Analysis of Questions in the 'Matter' Units of Elementary Science Textbooks under the 7th Curriculum)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the questions in the 'Matter' units of elementary science textbooks under the 7th curriculum. For the analysis, a total of 338 questions were extracted from 15 units. Six criteria (recalling, recognizing, predictive, applied, divergent, and evaluative question) were reconstructed for textbook question analysis based on Blosser(1973)'s question category system for science. The results were as follows. First, there were more closed (recalling, recognizing, predictive, or applied) questions (72.2%) than open (divergent or evaluative) questions (27.8%) in elementary science textbooks. Second, cognitive-memory (recalling or recognizing) question type was the most frequently asked in all grade levels. Open (divergent or evaluative) questions increased according to grade level whereas convergent (predictive or applied) questions decreased. Third, question types were applied based on the characteristics of each unit rather than on children's developmental characteristics. Educational implications were discussed based on the results.

서부 경남 지역의 초등학교에 식재된 목본 식물 분석 (An Analysis of Tree Species Planted in Elementary School Gardens in Western Gyeongnam Area)

  • This study is to find out how well elementary school gardens work as places of observation learning. We compared the tree species planted in elementary school gardens with those which appeared in the science textbooks of the 7th Korean National Curriculum. The number of tree species are 60 throughout all the grades, specifically; 43 in the third grade, 22 in the fifth grade, 16 in the first grade, 15 in the second grade, 8 in the sixth grade, and 5 in the fourth grade, respectively. Their frequency of appearance (hereafter referred to as 'appearance frequency') throughout all the grades is 175, and the maximum frequency is 62 in the third grade. Of particular note is the fact that the appearance frequency in one grade was very high, meaning that a repeat study will not be conducted. The total number of tree species counted in the study was 13,028 and consisted of 167 species in 52 families. Only 23% of the total planted tree species, that is, 38 tree species appeared in the textbooks, so the ratio of the practical usage of school gardens was revealed to be low. In the school gardens, there are only an average of about 16 tree species per school. The fewest number of species in one school was 9 and the most was 22. The native species were 74 and the non-native species were 93. This means that almost all the planted species do not relate to observation learning in the textbooks. The 22 tree species among 60 species in the textbooks were not planted in the gardens. In conclusion, the degree of utilization of almost all the elementary school gardens examined during this investigation was very low.

We expect that this article would contribute to the elementary school teacher for the reorganization of the elementary school mathematics curriculums.

  • 초등학교 수학 교과서에서는 적지 않은 수의 용어가 정의 없이 사용되고 있다. 이 연구에서는 초등학교 수학 교과서에서 무정의 용어로 사용되는 용어들을 추출하고 그 사용의 적절성을 비판적으로 검토하였다. 검토 결과 도출된 시사점을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, '등식'과 같이 교육과정에서 초등학교의 해당 단계에서 사용하게 되어 있지 않은 용어를 교과서에서 무정의 용어로 사용하는 것은 지양해야 한다. 둘째, 일상 기반 용어라 하더라도, 그 용어가 나타내는 일상적 실재물과 수학적 실재물 사이에 괴리가 있는 경우에는 그 용어를 정의하여야 한다. 셋째, 학교수학에서 무정의 용어의 사용에 있어, 일관성과 형평성을 고려해야 한다. 넷째, 용어가 사용되는 맥락이 바뀌거나 확장되는 경우에는 그 용어를 새롭게 정의하여야 한다. 다섯째, 학생들이 정의 없이도 그 의미를 잘 포착할 수 있다고 볼 근거가 없는 순수 용어는 정의하여야 한다

초등학교 '읽기' 교과서의 철학교육적 접근 (A Study of Philosophical Thinking Methods in Elementary School "Reading" Textbooks)

  • This study analyzed the contents of "Reading" textbooks for 1st-6th grades. The focus of the analysis was on philosophical thinking methods designed to help children to think for themselves. Following the analysis, methods were designed for the application of effective use of Philosophy in the elementary school curriculum. Analysis of works of children's literature in "reading" textbooks show patterns of logical, ethical and creative thinking. Therefore, "reading" textbooks can be used to help children to think philosophically. Five stages of discussion can be applied in the classroom; these are: establish the issues, outline the process of discussion, discuss the issues, evaluate and summarize the discussion, apply the learning to other subjects. Teachers can use philosophical thinking methods to improve the quality and quantity of instruction with various questions, having children express their opinions, interpreting their thoughts clearly, maintaining logical consistency, and evaluating the procedures and results of discussion. These methods can be used in the teaching-learning process in the elementary school to develop rich findings and meaningful communication.

예비교사의 초등수학교과서 활용에 대한 관점 (Perspectives on the Use of Elementary Mathematics Textbooks by the Pre-service Teachers)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 학교 현장에서 수학 수업을 관찰하면서 인식한 초등예비교사들의 초등수학교과서 활용에 대한 관점을 분석하고 수학 수업에서 교과서 활용을 위한 시사점을 제시하는 것이다. 본 연구를 위해 54명의 초등예비교사들이 서울시내 15개 지역구에 1학년부터 6학년까지 54개 학급(총 1299명의 학생)의 수학 수업을 관찰하였다. 수학 수업의 관찰을 토대로 예비교사들이 인식하는 초등수학교과서의 활용과 수학 수업에서 자료의 활용에 대한 관점을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 예비교사들은 초등수학교과서의 동기유발 자료를 각색하여 활용할 필요가 있다고 인식하였다. 그리고 학생들의 효과적인 학습을 돕기 위하여 수준별 학습을 포함하여 교과서 이외에 다양한 활동지 및 부가적인 자료를 사용할 필요가 있고, 이들은 수학 수업에서 교수 학습을 위해 사용하는 도구는 주로 TV와 PPT 등이라고 응답하였다. 예비교사들은 초등수학교과서의 내용과 체제 자체에 대해서 보통 정도의 만족을 하고 있었고, 디지털교과서 개발의 필요성도 크게 느끼지는 않았다. 연구자는 수학 교수 학습의 질 향상을 위하여 수업의 전반적인 메커니즘 안에서 교과서와 같은 학습 자료를 어떻게 활용하는 것이 효과적인지에 대한 장기간의 연구와 교사들을 위한 학교 현장의 적용을 포함한 실제적인 연수가 필요함을 제안하였다.
