The built environment of the elementary school influences on the character and the social skill of children in that childhood development stage. In this regard, sound environment in the elementary school is also important as the other environmental factors. Soundscape design is a design attitude for a better sound environment what landscape design targets a visual one. Four soundscape factors in elementary schools are extracted in this study from surveys on existing elementary schools. They are abstracted and characterized to related design patterns which denote the intended sound environments. The design patterns can be converted into design ideas and applied to an actual design project. There are possible advantages in the proposed elementary school design, environmentally and educationally, especially with the 'designed' soundscape.

The purpose of this project is to create small parks in elementary schools in order to improve the educational environment and also to increase the amount of greenspace in the city. Above all, the main goal is to create space for local residents in which they can enjoy their leisure time. During a basic investigation and document investigation of elementary schools in Daegu, I placed the priority on choosing the schools that showed the most promise. Also, by doing a survey about the present conditions at schools, I verified, compared, and analyzed the validity of creating small parks in elementary schools. The summary of the results are as follows. The average area available for building small parte in Daegu elementary schools is $7,447m^2$. Even though this area is not as large as a neighborhood parti the difference is not that great. Therefore, I assumed that building small parks in schools would be as effective as building neighborhood parks. The standard size for a children's parks is $1,500m^2$, and if small parks were to be constructed in all school areas with available space larger than a children's park (i.e., larger than $1,500m^2$), the amount of added park greenspace would equal $1,217,953m^2$. The number of schools with areas under $1,500m^2$ is only 3% of all schools in which small parte can be created(5 schools). Schools that have between $1,500m^2$ and $8,000m^2$of greenspace make up 59.7% of all schools in which small parte can be created (98 schools). Schools that have greenspace of more than $8,000m^2$ make up 37% of all school in which small parks can be created (61 schools). The standard area for neighborhood parte is $10,000m^2$ (building-to-land ratio 20%). Schools that have areas that are larger than the standard area for neighborhood parte make up 31% of all elementary schools in Daegu (61 schools). Therefore city greenspace would increase to a total of $694,805m^2$ by making use of these schools, which would represent 7% of the park greenspace in Daegu.

As recognition and polices for plans to preserve natural resources and to develop environment-friendly space in school education is developed, not only organization of curriculums related to these is required but also facilities for the education are indispensable. Therefore, this study tries to suggest several standards on matters including kinds and scale of facilities and the introduction of species by facilities required for outdoor teaming spaces for environmental education in the elementary school system. The methods of this study include researching various records related to environmental education in elementary school, researching the present condition of outdoor learning space installed and operating in the existing schools by making an on-the-spot survey, and analyzing appearance frequencies of plants and animals displayed in the text. In addition, the actual conditions of the facility use and management were investigate through a questionnaire, We chose and diagrammed a model of the installed facilities by putting the results together. For analyses the investigated eight schools, were categorized as ‘facilities-arranged type’or ‘connection type with ecological park’. The first type distributed and arranged facilities, including meteorological observatory, rocky park, experience-learning area, ecological pond, animal-breeding farm and field-leaning area into appropriate locations according to the site conditions of the school while the second type created a natural learning place by integrating several facilities and arranging areas such as an animal-breeding farm and experience-learning area into appropriate sites. In this study, essential facilities for outdoor learning are classified into ecological park, experience-loaming area, field loaming area, and for natural learning, meteorological observatory, animal-breeding farm, and greenhouse.

The results were summarized as follows; 1. 53.0% of the reply child thought that play apparatuses were dangerous, and 41.0% of the total reply had experienced accidents by apparatuses, the child under 10 had experienced the accidents manytimes. 2. The types of injuries most frequently occurred are falls from play apparatuses, and part of the body most frequently injured parts of the body are arms and legs. 3. The danger of fall in play apparatuses that is over 3M amounted 19.6%, it asked safety of bottom materials. 4. Destructed play apparatuses reached up to 20.0%, and rusted or decomposed apparatuses reached to 28.4%. 5. The distance of each apparatus were very close ; it was within 0.3~1.5M, which was 24.9%, it was very dangerous factor. 6. The most frequent hazards of educational play apparatuses are ; - inappropriate size of apparatuses(height, gap, thick etc.)- inappropriate shape and finished state(bad welding and cutting, projection part etc.)- unsuitable use of bottom material in playground and safety color.- insufficient use zone.-inappropriate maintenance and inspection(endurance passage, erosin of iron-ware and wooden ware, projection of foundation concrete)
This study showed the current plantation of woody landscape plants of 42 school gardens in Daejeon metropolitan city. The ratio between evergreen tree and deciduous tree was 67% to 33%. The ratio between evergreen shrub and deciduous shrub was 48% to 52%. Also, 161 kinds of woody species were found; evergreen tree was 21 species, deciduous tree was 67 species, evergreen shrub was 16 species, deciduous shrub was 44 species, and vine and the others were 13 species. The proportion of native woody species was 61% (98 out of 161 species). 110 species were planted at the front garden area. In the mid-garden, 77 kinds of woody species were found. In the side garden, 95 kinds of woody species were found. In the rear garden, 92 kinds of woody species were found. The surrounding of play ground and outer area were planted 82 species. The first ranked evergreen tree was Juniperus chinensis‘Kaizuka’. And Deciduous tree, evergreen shrub, deciduous shrub, and vine showed Gingko biloba, Buxus microphylla var. koreana, Hibiscus syriacus, Wisteria floribunda, respectively. The school symbol of tree and flower was planted in 41 schools. The first rank plants of school symbol tree and flower were Pinus densiflora, Forsythia koreana and Rosa spp. Plant nameplate was found at 22 schools. The plant nameplate was used for 1∼10 species at 17 schools. In conclusion, plantation of landscape trees should be considered characteristic of each school area. In addition, school landscape should be planned distinction of a elementary school, a middle school, a high school, and a school for handicapped. School landscape should be considered carefully from functional, natural, educational environment and maintenance viewpoints as well as urban forest networking.
The purpose of this study was that verify the difference of pro-environmental behavior according to be present or not of experience environmental education for developing pro-environmental and show basic material to prepare efficient operation plans of experience environmental education is based on factor which effect of pro-environmental behavior difference according to the types. Elementary schools were divided through existence and nonexistence of an experience environmental education than I was checked up the pro-environmental behavior of students, who joined in different environmental educations each other. It was analysis by dividing into an environmental education of school, an educator (teacher, environmental-interpreter), and fields for environmental education (school inside and outside) to know types of experience environmental education. In result, elementary schoolers who experienced an experience environmental education at school class, had higher an environment-friendly behavior and elementary schoolers, who experienced an experience environmental education at class from environmental-interpreter, had higher an environment-friendly behavior by and large. As a result, this study showed that the area based on their residential quarter and an experience environmental education with realistic plans to connect with social environmental education for developing pro-environmental carrying out the most positive effect.

The purposes of this study are carrying out the case study for the urban park planning in point of landscape ecology, analyzing and evaluating the indicator character of the landscape ecological view on the basis of the case study, and proposing the urban park planning in point of landscape ecology. The results of this study are as follows. As a result of the isolation analysis with school green space, Kyukchaebosang Park turned out to be 607m, Chimsan Park to be the highest 647.14m, Ehyeun Park to be the lowest 592m. In the case of connection analysis with all nodes, Kyukchaebosang Park had the lowest score 0.27 and Chimsan Park had the highest score 1. As a result of the circulation analysis with elementary schools, Kyukchaebosang Park and Ehyeun Park got 1 within 500m permissible range, and Chimsan Park got over 1, Ehyeun Park got 0.67, and Kyukchaebosang Park got 0.14 respectively within 700m permissible range. According to these analysis results, special regions which has problems such as high isolation and low connection and circulation in point of landscape ecology can be selected. Also by changing them to valuable green spaces, urban park planning can be improved. In this study, the basic data of landscape ecology can be obtained by the character analysis of landscape ecology. This study has a significant meaning of possibility in planning of the urban park which reflects the character of landscape ecology. This research was only performed in Chimsan Park, so additional researches for various cases will be needed.
This study investigated the status of planting status of school's flower of 11 elementary schools located in Chung-ju and its results were as follows. Totally 3,502 trees were planted in the 11 schools and the number of species of the trees was 103. For tall tree Thuja orientalis was planted most frequently and for shrub Buxus microphylla was done in the largest number of the schools. In addition, the number of trees planted in a school was averagely two times more in the model schools than in the other ones, and the average number of species of trees was also over three times more in the model schools. When the number of species of trees was examined according to their types, decidous broad leaved tree was found most frequently overall and the model schools had more various species of decidous tree compared to the other ones. Investigation on designation of school's flower and tree with the 11 elementary school, revealed similar results with those of previous studies performed with the schools in other areas and the tendency meant that the designation was uniform to some degree. Moreover, as only a few school's flower and tree were planted or no one was done in some schools, the species of school's flower and tree needed to be determined by considering characteristics and school percepts of a school as well as local features and circumstances of a region. In addition, more efforts should be made to infuse love for school and to improve quality of education by increasing the planting rate of school's flower and tree and by focusing them.

The outdoor space of an elementary school is the most familiar and most educational area for children. A paradigm shift in education has demanded a new role and direction for these outdoor spaces. The construction of children-friendly spaces, however, lags behind. The child-participatory design process is very meaningful at a time when many outdoor spaces have difficulties in reflecting the varied and specific demands of children. This study realized the necessity for a design that includes a child-participatory design process in construction the outdoor spaces of elementary schools. Through reference study and a theoretical approach of related laws, this study established a child-participatory design process model and applied it to Seoul Don-Am Elementary School. The design process included playing games and providing interesting tools to increase the participation of children in suggesting and presenting their opinions more freely. The design process of this study is described in five steps(eliciting interest in and recognition of the target space, Understanding children's expectations and the expressing thereof, Establishing factors for planning, Visualizing and arranging spaces, and Decision-making and building a final design plan). This process was applied to the planning and design of an outdoor space for Seoul Don-Am Elementary School. In this study, it is clear that the design of the participators and experts have a different purpose. Thus, the process of the design has more meaning than the final product. In addition, it is expected that an improvement in both tangible and intangible designs will be seen. Using a participatory design process, this study successfully improved the facilities and arrangement planning of an outdoor space. At the same time, it also enhanced the interest and participation of children in the process of creating the kind of school they desire. The significance of this study is that it has suggested an effective model to reflect the demands of children, the true users of the outdoor space, and the results were actually applied to elementary school outdoor planning and designing. This study enhanced the awareness of school members in the process of building the school's outdoor space.
