초등 과학 수업에서 스마트 기기를 활용한 소집단 협력 학습의 효과 (The Effects of the Small Group Collaborative Learning Strategy using Smart Devices in Elementary School Science Classes)

  • In this study, the effects of the small group collaborative learning on students' achievement, the retention of the achievement, communication anxiety, and science learning motivation were investigated. The aptitude-treatment interaction between the level of students' self-directed learning ability and the intervention was also examined. Two classes (38 students) from an elementary school were respectively assigned to a control group and a treatment group. A self-directed learning ability test, a communication anxiety test, and a science learning motivation test were administered as pretests. The intervention lasted for 8 class periods. After instruction, an achievement test, the communication anxiety test, and the science learning motivation test were administered. An achievement retention test were also administered after four weeks. The results indicated that there were significant treatmentaptitude interaction effects in the achievement test scores and the achievement retention test scores. In the communication anxiety and the science learning motivation, however, any significant difference was not found between the scores of the treatment group and the control group. Educational implications are discussed.

초등 과학 수업에서의 문제중심학습이 창의적 문제해결력과 학업성취도에 미치는 효과 (The Effect of Problem-Based Learning on Creative Problem-Solving Skills and Achievement in Elementary Science)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the instructional effect of problem-based learning on creative problem-solving skills and academic achievement in elementary science classes. Based on the literature review, six stages for problem-based learning were applied: Orientation, Presenting problems and the process of learning, preliminary problem solving, problem solving, sharing results, and wrapping up/evaluating. The subjects were 74 students in two six-grade classes in Gyeonggi province. As a result, the following findings were given: First, the students who were engaged in problem-based learning showed better progress in creative problem-solving skills. Second, science academic achievement of experimental group were better than traditional group. Educational implications were discussed.

교육대학교 학생의 구성주의 과학 학습 환경에 대한 인식 조사 (A Constructivist Science Learning Environment Survey for Korean Pre-service Elementary School Teachers)

  • For assessing classroom environment, numerous instruments were developed and reported the survey results for science students in science education. In this study I translated Constructivist Learning Environment Scales (CLES) were into Korean versions for elementary school teachers, and measured the reliability. The subjects were randomly selected from three departments of an University of Education in a metropolitan city. All of them were 110 students, who would be elementary school teachers. According to the survey results, pre-service teachers for elementary school have recognized constructivistly for learning environments in an actual forms. In a scale of student negotiation they have most constructivistly recognized learning environment, and moderately in scales of relevance, uncertainty and critical view while they have seldom constructivistly recognized in a scale of shared control. Also Korean version CLES would be an reliable instruments for constructivist assessing learning environments.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to develope elementary mathematics teaching-learning programs for pre-service elementary teachers. The elementary mathematics education program developed in this work is divided into two parts: One is the theory, the other is the practice. The theory deals with the foundations of mathematics, the objectives of mathematics education, the history of mathematics education in Korea, the psychology of mathematics learning, the theories of mathematics teaching and learning, and the methods of assessment. With respect to the practice, this study examines the background knowledge and activities of numbers and their operation, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability, pattern and function.

4차 산업혁명 시대에 필요한 초등 과학교육학 과목의 학습 내용에 대한 초등 교사의 인식 (Elementary School Teachers' Conception of the Learning Content of Elementary Science Education Subject Required in the 4th Industrial Revolution Era)

  • 본 연구는 4차 산업혁명 시대에 적합한 초등과학 교사 양성을 위해 필요한 초등 과학교육학 과목의 학습 내용에 대해 초등 교사들이 어떻게 생각하는지 알아보고자 온라인 설문을 실시하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현행 초등 과학교육학 과목의 학습 내용이 4차 산업혁명 시대에 적합하지 않으며 학습 내용 수정이 필요하다고 생각하는 초등교사가 다수 있었다. 초등 교사들이 그렇게 생각한 이유는 주로 과목의 학습 내용이 4차 산업혁명의 특징을 포함하지 못할 뿐만 아니라 시대변화를 반영하지 못하고 과거에 머물러있다고 생각했기 때문이었다. 둘째, 초등 교사들이 4차 산업혁명 시대에 적합한 초등 교사를 양성하는 데에 중요하다고 생각한 내용은 주로 학생의 흥미와 호기심, 과학 실험이나 탐구와 관련이 있는 것이었다. 그에 비해 삭제하거나 축소해야 한다고 생각하는 항목으로는 과학 학습이론, 과학과 교수·학습 모형, 과학의 본성, 영재아 지도가 있었다. 셋째, 초등 교사들이 초등 과학교육학 과목의 학습 내용으로 추가할 필요가 있다고 생각한 내용은 SSI 교육, 과학교육 관련 사회 변화와 미래예측, 첨단과학기술, STEAM 지도, 과학 분야 내의 통합교육이었다. 넷째, 4차 산업혁명 시대에 적합한 초등 교사 양성을 위해 초등 과학교육학 과목의 학습 내용으로 우선 도입해야 한다고 생각하는 항목은 SSI 교육, 과학 분야 내의 통합 교육, STEAM 지도와 과학과 핵심역량이었다. 그 외에 추가로 도입될 필요가 있는 내용으로는 소프트웨어교육, 안전교육, 프로젝트 학습법이 있었다.

학습 차원을 강조한 초등 과학수업의 과학적 태도와 과학 학습 성취도 분석 - 5학년 '열매' 단원을 중심으로 - (The Analysis of Students' Scientific Attitude and Scienctific Achievement after the Elementary School Science Lesson Emphasizing on Dimensions of Learning -Focused on Unit 'Fruits' of 5th Grade-)

  • Dimensions of learning, based on the vast studies on teaming psychology and teaming processes, have been played an important role as one of the frameworks of curriculum and teaming strategies. Dimensions of Learning consist of 5 Dimensions, each of 'Attitudes and Perceptions', 'Acquire and Integrate Knowledge', 'Extend and Refine Knowledge', 'Use Knowledge Meaningfully', 'Habits of Mind'. And each dimension has $3\~8$ lower categories in itself, The elementary 5th grade science lesson emphasizing upon Dimensions of Learning was developed in this study. The lessons dealt with almost every lower categories of Dimensions of learning. We analysed students' scientific attitude and scientific achievement quantitatively after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning in comparison with typical lesson laying stress on teachers' guides. The results are as follows; Students' scientific attitude was significantly changed after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning. The willingness, positiveness, straightforwardness, and openness of lower categories of students' scientific attitude were more significantly changed especially. But students' scientific achievement was not significantly changed after the lesson emphasized upon Dimensions of Learning.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of teaching-learning programs from the perspective of brain-based learning science. Four units in 5th grade elementary science programs of the Revised 2007 National Curriculum were selected as contents to study. As the brain-based learning science analysis method, equations of the brain compatibleness index (BCI) and contribution degree on the brain compatibleness index (BCICRE) were applied to them. This study showed that there were qualitative and quantitative differences among the analyzed teaching-learning programs through the unit and curriculum. The results showed that hands-on activities like experiments or open inquiry activities improved their evaluation of the teaching-learning programs. From the analyzing, teachers can judge whether each teaching-learning program made considered the brain of the learners. Furthermore, this study can provide useful information to consult of various science teaching-learning programs brain-based learning.

  • This study is to examine whether elementary science textbooks in Korea and Singapore are applicable to flipped learning. By comparative study we sought to identifying appropriate features of science textbooks for learner-centered teaching. We analyzed text pages on the unit of 'Working of electricity' in Korean elementary science textbook for sixth grade and three chapters of 'Electric circuits, Using electricity, Conductors of electricity' in Singaporean elementary textbook, 'Science : My pals are here!'. We designed evaluating frameworks for science textbooks based on the four pillars of flipped learning. and applied it to 10 elementary teachers evaluate two textbooks. They evaluated textbooks with Likert Scale items and wrote detailed statements and exemplars about their choices. We analyzed the teachers' evaluative descriptions inductively and chose commonly mentioned characteristics. Based on the analysis, we got to the conclusion about specific features of two elementary science textbooks in terms of flexible environment, learning culture, intentional contents, and teachers' expertises. Implications for improving science textbooks towards flipped learning and learner-centered teaching through comparative study were discussed.

초등수학영재를 위한 교수학습 자료 개발 및 적용 (Development and Application of Teaching and Learning Materials for Gifted Students in Elementary School)

  • This study analyzes the characteristics of elementary math gifted classes through the development and application of teaching and learning materials. We used the guided reinvention methods including quasi-experiential perspectives. To this end, the applicability of Lakatos' quasi-empirical mathematical philosophy in elementary mathematics was examined, and the criteria for the development of teaching and learning materials for gifted students were presented, and then this study was conducted in this theoretical background. The subjects of the study were 21 elementary students at P University's Institute of Science and Gifted Education, and non-face-to-face real-time classes were conducted. Classes were divided into introduction, deployment1, deployment2, organization stages, and in each stage, small group cooperative learning was conducted based on group activities, and in this process, the characteristics of elementary mathematics gifted were analyzed. As a result of the study, elementary mathematics gifted students did not clearly present the essence of justification in the addition algorithm of fractions, but presented various interpretations of 'wrong' mathematics. They also showed their ingenuity in the process of spontaneously developing 'wrong' mathematics. On the other hand, by taking interest in new mathematics starting from 'wrong' mathematics, negative perceptions about it could be improved positively. It is expected that the development of teaching and learning materials dealing with various and original topics for the gifted students in elementary school will proceed through follow-up research.

천문 영역에 대한 STAD 모형의 협동 학습이 초등학생들의 학업 성취도와 과학에 관련된 태도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Cooperative Learning through STAD Model on Elementary School Students' Learning Achievements and Science Related Attitudes in the Field of Astronomy)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the efforts of cooperative loaming through a student team-achievement division(STAD) model on elementary school students' learning achievements and science ,elated attitudes toward the field of astronomy. This study was conducted using 72 students of the fifth-grade class in a elementary school in Busan. The 18 science lessons of the 'Family of the sun' were executed over 6 weeks in the fifth-year students classes. In this study, the experimental group were exposed to cooperative learning through STAD and the contrast group were exposed to a traditional teacher-centered class. The results show that the STAD class of the experimental group had a greater effect upon the elementary school students' science learning achievement and science related attitudes toward the field of astronomy than those of the comparison group. Additionally, the students recognized that cooperative learning provokes both interest in loaming and in their studies generally and also they expressed a desire to continue with cooperative teaming methods.
