A Study on the Improvement Plan of Electrostatic Safety Management Level through Injury Analysis (재해분석을 통한 정전기 안전관리 수준 향상 방안 연구)

  • The characteristic of fire and explosion related to electrostatic discharge is that it is difficult to reproduce the electrostatic charge and discharge phenomenon in addition to the large human and material damage. Therefore, in order to prevent accidents and disasters related to electrostatic in fire and explosion hazard areas, it is important to manage the level of electrostatic in a safe manner from the perspective of system between industrial facilities and human bodies. Rule 325 of the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, "Prevention of Fire / Explosion due to Electrostatic", requires the use of grounding, conductive materials, humidification and electrification in order to prevent the risk of disaster caused by static explosion and electrostatic in the production process. In order to comply with these measures, related technologies, standards and systems are needed from the viewpoint of preventive measures related to electrostatic in fire and explosion hazard areas, but in Korea, it is still insufficient. Therefore, technical, institutional and managerial measures are needed as a precautionary measure to improve the level of ESD safety in fire and explosion hazard areas and prevent electrostatic related injury. In Korea, we analyzed the current status and characteristics of electrostatic related disaster by using the statistics of industrial accident and fire statistics of the Ministry of Employment and Labor. We also analyzed the current status and characteristics of electrostatic related disasters in Japan using JNIOSH accidents and disasters investigation cases and JNIOSH fire accident data of Japan Fire Bureau. The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the current status of electrostatic related accidents and disasters in Korea and Japan in order to improve the safety management of electrostatic in fire and explosion hazard areas. In order to prevent accidents and disasters in the industrial field, The technical, institutional, and managerial measures to manage the level of electrostatic in a safe state were derived from the system point of view.

  • For chromaticity correction, it is necessary to dispense high viscosity phosphor slurry since it greatly affects the performance of white LEDs. However, it is quite difficult to dispense high viscosity fluorescent materials. In the current study, micro-discharge electrostatic printing has been used for dispensing various high viscosity phosphor slurries. We have achieved dispersions of up to 50 µg using drop on demand (DOD) discharge experiments. The experiments were conducted with different combinations of process variables such as applied voltage, pneumatic pressure, and frequency.

  • The electrical characteristics and particle collection efficiency of a wide-plate spacing electrostatic precipitator are numerically investigated, and the results are compared with those obtained experimentally. The electric potential and field strength near the collection plate increase with increasing the plate spacing. The electric field strength of a discharge electrode of a twisted pin type is larger than that of a rectangular type. As the roughness factor of the discharge electrode wire becomes small, or the plate spacing becomes narrow, the corona current of the precipitator increases. The numerical results agree well with those obtained from experimental method.

  • In this paper, we have studied the electrostatic discharge test for the battery protection circuit module in the lithium ion battery used as a smartphone battery which is used to prevent the explosion hazard due to overcharge, over discharge, and short-circuit. A lithium ion battery of S company was used as an experimental sample, and an ESD gun simulator compliant with IEC 61000-4-2 standard was used for electrostatic discharge injection. The contact discharge was applied to the various pins of the battery protection circuit module in increments of 2 kV in the range of 2 kV to 10 kV and in 5 kV increments in the range of 10 kV to 30 kV.

  • Electrostatic precipitator is the equipment that separates dust particles from the gas in which they are suspended. Specially, for the construction of industrial electrostatic precipitator, the corporations would send the layout design to a customer to accept an order. Therefore, it is made a detail drawing after accept ance. Since the layout design of electrostatic precipitator is very complex, it takes time and design errors are included. Thus, for competitiveness in these industries, the development of software for the layout design of electrostatic precipitator is important. In this study, the developed software deals with technical concept and layout design of industrial electrostatic precipitator. By using the software, design time was very short, design errors reduced largely, and the standardization of design could be carried out.

  • Electrostatic precipitator is the equipment that separates dust particles from the gas in which they are susponded. Specially, in establishing industrial electrostatic precipitatior, corparations would send to a customer technical papers to accept an order. And, they design detail drawing after accept an order. Then, since the basic technical design of electrostatic precipitator is very complex, it takes long time. Thus, for competitiveness in these industries, the developement of software about technical design is important. In this study, the developed software is called 'KOCO', the simpler form for KOrea Cottrell Co. Ltd., deals with a basic technical design of industrial electrostatic precipitator. From using the software, design time was veryshort, design errors reduced largely, and the standardization of design could be carried out.

  • As the use of automatic handling equipment for sensitive semiconductor devices is rapidly increased, manufacturers of electronic components and equipment need to be more alert to the problem of electrostatic discharges(ESD). Semiconductor devices such as IC, LSI, VLSI become a high density pattern of being more fragile by ESD phenomena. One of the most common causes of electrostatic damage is the direct transfer of electrostatic charge from the human body or a charged material to the electrostatic discharge sensitive devices. Accordingly, characteristics of electrostatic attenuation in domestic semiconductor devices is investigated to evaluate the ESD phenomina in the semiconductors in this paper. The required data are obtained by Static Honestmeter. Also The results in this paper can be used for the prevention of semiconductor failure by ESD.

  • This article presents computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of nanoparticle movements and flow characteristics in laboratory-scale electrostatic precipitator (ESP) without corona discharge, and for simulation, it uses the commercial CFD program(CFD-ACE) including electrostatic theory and Lagrangian-based equation for nanoparticle movement. For validation of CFD results, a simple cylindrical type of ESP is simulated and numerical prediction shows fairly good agreement with the analytical solution. In particular, the present study investigates the effect of particle diameter, inlet flow rate, and applied electric potential on particle collection efficiency and compares the numerical prediction with the experimental data, showing good agreement. It is found that the particle collection efficiency decreases with increasing inlet flow rate because the particle detention time becomes shorter, whereas it decreases with the increase in nanoparticle diameter and with the decrease of applied electric voltage resulting from smaller terminal electrostatic velocity.

  • An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device, so called, N-type SCR with P-type MOSFET pass structure (NSCR_PPS), was analyzed for high voltage I/O applications. A conventional NSCR_PPS device shows typical SCR-like characteristics with extremely low snapback holding voltage, which may cause latch-up problem during normal operation. However, a modified NSCR_PPS device with counter pocket source(CPS) and partial p-type well(PPW) structure demonstrates highly latch-up immune current-voltage characteristics.

  • An electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection device, so called, N-type extended drain silicon controlled rectifier (NEDSCR) device, was analyzed for high voltage I/O applications. A conventional NEDSCR device shows typical SCR-like characteristics with extremely low snapback holding voltage. This may cause latch-up problem during normal operation. However, a modified NEDSCR device with proper junction/channel engineering using counter pocket source (CPS) ion implantation demonstrates itself with both the excellent ESD protection performance and the high latch-up immunity. Since the CPS implant technique does not change avalanche breakdown voltage, this methodology does not reduce available operation voltage and is applicable regardless of the operation voltage.
