  • Electro Explosive Devices can be susceptible to electromagnetic interference. When these components are exposed to external electromagnetic fields, it may cause to induce sufficient current to generate enough heat for an inadvertent detonation. It is almost impossible to monitor the event of firing throughout the electromagnetic environment test. The survivability of EED for hazards of electromagnetic radiation is investigated. A fiber optic sensor is installed near the bridge wire after removing explosive material in order to measure the induced current on the bridge wire. The length of lead-wire of the EED fabricated is around 15 cm.

  • This paper presents methods to improve the effectiveness of electromagnetic shielding. The slit appears in an enclosure's surface to ventilate. Slits may also appear due to power supply lines or to serve as a communication link between electronic circuits inside and outside the box. We simulated electromagnetic radiation in different conditions in order to propose a method to improve the effectiveness of electromagnetic shielding to ensure electromagnetic compatibility using CST software (Computer Simulation Technology).

  • Microwave imaging (MI) is one of the most promising and attractive new techniques for earlier breast cancer detection. Microwave tomography (MT) realizes configuration of a multistatic multiple-input multiple-output system and reconstructs dielectric properties of the breast by solving a nonlinear inversion scattering problem. In this paper, we describe ETRI 3D MT system with 3D MI reconstruction program and demonstrate its robustness through some examples of the image reconstruction.

  • The increased awareness of electromagnetic wave hazards has prompted studies on electromagnetic shielding using conductive materials in the construction industry. Previous studies have explored the effects of the types of conductive materials and their mix proportions on the electromagnetic shielding performance; however, there has been insufficient research on the effect of the geometry of the conductive materials on the electromagnetic shielding performance. Therefore, in this study, the dependence of the electromagnetic shielding performance on the cross-sectional geometry, diameter and length of fibers was investigated. The results showed that the electromagnetic shielding performance improved when the fiber length increased or the diameter decreased, but the effect of the cross-sectional geometry of the fibers was smaller than the effect of the fiber spacing factor.

  • Recently, the reduction of electromagnetic vibration and noise of a capacitor motor (CRM) has become a very important subject from the standpoint of environmental improvement. Therefore, the authors have studied the characteristics of the dominant electromagnetic vibration of the CRM under load condition. In this paper, the effects of slot combination and skewed slot on the dominant electromagnetic vibration of a CRM under load condition are discussed both theoretically and experimentally. As a result, the characteristics of the dominant electromagnetic vibration for the slot combination and the reduction effect of the skewed slot on the electromagnetic vibration are clarified for a 4-pole CRM.

  • The electrical current generated by heart creates not only electric potential but also a magnetic field. We have observed electrophysiological phenomena of the heart by measuring tangential components of magnetocardiogram(MCG) using 61 channel superconducting quantum interference device(SQUD) system. In this paper, we developed a new analysis method, which is based on the theory of electromagnetic field. We show some differences of the current direction between the normal MCG and the abnormal(ischemic heart disease) MCG.

  • Electronic equipments and make other electronic systems to operate abnormally by means of electromagnetic interference, or can operate abnormally themselves by electromagnetic interference of other electronic systems. Therefore, electronic equipments are required to reduce their electromagnetic interference as small as for other systems to operate properly and operate properly within electromagnetic interference from other electronic systems. In order to prove that electronic equipments meet such requirements, they should undergo electromagnetic environmental test. In this study, we introduce electromagnetic environmental requirements, test procedures and test results of gimbal engine actuation system of KSR-III.

  • A feasibility study on the alternating jet flow under the static electromagnetic field was carried out. When a fluid with electrical conductivity lies in the static electromagnetic field and moves electric current occurs in the fluid. Due to the electromagnetic field and the electric current, lorentz force generates in the fluid, which undergo the 'breaking' effect to the fluid. In order to simulate the complex fluid flow in the magnetic field, electromagnetic and fluid flow analysis need to be solved simultaneously. In the present study, a SOLA (SOLution Algorithm) scheme was used in order to calculate electromagnetic and fluid flow field. Jet flow without an electromagnetic field was compared with analytical solution in order to validate the flow analysis scheme. Effect of jet velocity on the flow pattern down the jet was investigated.

  • The miniaturization of an electrostatic precipitator has become a key element in successfully constructing an efficient electrostatic precipitator because of the limited space allowed for installation in a subway tunnel. Therefore, the miniaturization of the rapping system of the electrostatic precipitator has also become important. This research proposes a resonant-type electromagnetic vibration exciter as a vibrating rapper for an electrostatic precipitator. The compact vibrating rapper removes collected dust from the collecting plates without direct impact on those collecting plates. To characterize the dynamic performance of the electromagnetic vibration exciter, finite element analysis was performed using a commercial electromagnetic analysis program, MAXEWLL. Moreover, we analyzed the resonant frequency of an electrostatic precipitator, to which the electromagnetic vibration exciter was applied, by ANSYS. Also, to measure the acceleration generated by the electromagnetic vibration exciter, we manufactured a prototype of the ESP and electromagnetic vibration exciter and measured its acceleration at the resonant frequency.

  • Recently as a progress of electric technology, modern electric systems become more and more complicated. Thus, it is difficult to use a classical method to analyze responses of the systems in complicated electromagnetic environments because there are so many coupling phenomena. The electromagnetic topology (EMT) is a helpful solution to analyze electromagnetic interference / electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC) of the large complex system. In this paper, EMT is applied to analyze an active element. And then to prove the validity of this analysis, a detector circuit including Schottky barrier diode is analyzed by EMT when input power is given directly.
