Stretchable electrodes are focused due to many demands for soft electronics. One of the candidates, carbon black composites have advantages of low cost, easy processing and decreasing resistivity in a certain range during stretching. However, the electrical conductivity of carbon black composites is not enough for electronic devices. Graphene is 2-dimensional nanostructured carbon based material which shows good electrical properties and flexibility. They may help to improve electrical conductivity of the carbon black composites. In this study, graphene was added to a carbon black electrode to enhance electrical properties and investigated. Electrical resistivity of graphene added carbon electrode decreased comparing with that of carbon black electrode because graphene bridged non-contacting carbon black aggregates to strengthen the conductive network. Also graphene reduced an increase in the resistance of the carbon black electrode applied to strain because they connected gap of separated carbon black aggregates and aligned along the stretching direction at the same time. In conclusion, an addition of graphene to carbon black gives two benefits on the electrical properties of carbon black composite as a stretchable electrode.

In this study, to enhance the electrical insulation of composite specimens in addition to the improved mechanical properties, the epoxy composite were reinforced with carbon nanotubes and silica particles. Tensile strength, Young's modulus, dynamic mechanical behavior, and electrical resistivity of the specimens were measured with varied contents of the two fillers. The mechanical and electrical properties were discussed, and the experimental results related to the mechanical properties of the specimens were compared with those from several micromechanics models. The hybrid composites specimens with 0.6 wt% of carbon nanotubes and 50 wt% of silica particles showed improved mechanical properties, with increase in tensile strength and Young's modulus up to 11% and 35%, respectively, with respect to those of the baseline specimen. The electrical conductivity of the composite specimens with carbon nanotubes filler also improved. Further, the electrical insulation of the hybrid composites specimens with the two fillers improved in addition to the improvement in mechanical properties.

The changes of the electrical conductivity in chalcogenide amorphous semiconductors, $Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$, have been studied. A phase change random access memory (PRAM) device without an access transistor is successfully fabricated with the $Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$-phase-change resistor, which has much higher electrical resistivity than $Ge_{2}Sb_{2}Te_{5}$ and its electric resistivity can be varied by the factor of $10^5$ times, relating with the degree of crystallization. 100 nm thick $Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$ thin film was formed by vacuum deposition at $1.5{\times}10^{-5}$ Torr. The static mode switching (DC test) is tested for the $100\;{\mu}m-sized$$Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$ PRAM device. In the first sweep, the amorphous $Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$ thin film showed a high resistance state at low voltage region. However, when it reached to the threshold voltage, $V_{th}$, the electrical resistance of device was drastically reduced through the formation of an electrically conducting path. The pulsed mode switching of the $20{\mu}m-sized$$Ge_{1}Se_{1}Te_{2}$ PRAM device showed that the reset of device was done with a 80 ns-8.6 V pulse and the set of device was done with a 200 ns-4.3 V pulse.
Effects of Sc addition on microstructure, electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of the as-cast and as-extruded Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg-xSc (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5 wt%) alloys are investigated. The average grain size of the as-cast Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg alloy is 2,334 ㎛; however, this value drops to 914 and 529 ㎛ with addition of Sc element at 0.25 wt% and 0.5 wt%, respectively. This grain refinement is due to primary Al3Sc phase forming during solidification. The as-extruded Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg alloy has a recrystallization structure consisting of almost equiaxed grains. However, the as-extruded Sc-containing alloys consist of grains that are extremely elongated in the extrusion direction. In addition, it is found that the proportion of low-angle grain boundaries below 15 degree is dominant. This is because the addition of Sc results in the formation of coherent and nano-scale Al3Sc phases during hot extrusion, inhibiting the process of recrystallization and improving the strength by pinning of dislocations and the formation of subgrain boundaries. The maximum values of the yield and tensile strength are 126 MPa and 215 MPa for the as-extruded Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg-0.25Sc alloy, respectively. The increase in strength is probably due to the existence of nano-scale Al3Sc precipitates and dense Al2Cu phases. Thermal conductivity of the as-cast Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg-xSc alloy is reduced to 204, 187 and 183 W/MK by additions of elemental Sc of 0, 0.25 and 0.5 wt%, respectively. On the other hand, the thermal conductivity of the as-extruded Al-2Zn-1Cu-0.3Mg-xSc alloy is about 200 W/Mk regardless of the content of Sc. This is because of the formation of coherent Al3Sc phase, which decreases Sc content and causes extremely high electrical resistivity.
Data analysis of groundwater monitoring wells and geostatistical methods are used to identify the local characteristics of sea water intrusion and the range of sea water intrusion at the southeastern coastal area of Busan, Korea. Rainfall and groundwater level of two monitoring wells show a linear correlation because of the direct groundwater recharge by the precipitation. However, rainfall and electric conductivity have the inverse relationship because of the increase of groundwater. Electric conductivity rapidly increased at 24m depth and exceeded 20,000$\mu\textrm{s}$/cm near 26m depth in the monitoring wells. The variations of groundwater level and electric conductivity show that the interface between sea water and fresh water tends to move upward when groundwater level goes down. In the cross correlation analysis, groundwater level versus rainfall represents the largest cross correlation coefficient in 0 time lag but the cross correlation coefficient of electric conductivity versus rainfall is the largest when the time lag is 9 days. This suggests that the fluctuations of groundwater level respond to rainfall in a short time, but the interface between sea water and fresh water respond very slow to rainfall. Horizontal extents of sea water intrusion are estimated to 14 m from the east of Line 1, and 25 m from the southeast end of Line 2 in the inversion of dipole-dipole profiling data of two survey lines. The data of VES by the Schulumberger array in May and July show lognormal distributions. In the kriged apparent resistivity and earth resistivity distributions, the resistivities of July are increased comparing to those of May. This reflects that the concentration of sea water in aquifer is reduced due to the increased groundwater recharge from the rainfall in June and July. In analyzing the vertical and horizontal apparent resistivities and earth resistivity distributions, the geostatistical methods are very useful to identify the variations of earth resistivity distributions at the coastal area.

Silicon nitride is hard and tough ceramic material. Hereby, mechanical machinability is very poor. It has also high electrical resistance. Silicon nitride of extremely high electrical resistivity becomes conductive ceramic composite by adding 30 wt% TiN. Ceramics with high electrical conductivity can be electrical discharge machined. Using by the Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) technique. $Si_3N_4-TiN$ ceramic composite with high electrical conductivity is utilized to make metal working tool. These tool materials have severe wear problem as well as oxidation. Post HIP processing after sintering $Si_3N_4-TiN$ ceramic composites was performed. The tribological property of $Si_3N_4-TiN$ composite as a function of content of TiN was investigated in air, at room temperature. The hardness, fracture toughness, and flexural strength were compared with the wear volume. SEM observation of wear tracks can make an explanation of wear mode of $Si_3N_4-TiN$ composite.

Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a relatively new imaging modality in which the resistivity (conductivity) distribution of the unknown object is estimated based on the known sets of injected currents and measured voltages on the surface of the object. In this paper, we propose a dynamical EIT reconstruction algorithm based on the regularized extended Kalman filter(EKF). The EIT inverse problem is formulated as dynamic equation which consists of the slate equation and the observation equation, and the unknown state(resistivity) is estimated recursively with the aid of the EKF. In doing so, the generalized Tikhonov regularization technique is employed in the cost functional to mitigate the ill-posedness characteristics of the inverse problem. Computer simulations for the 16-channel synthetic data are provided to illustrate the reconstruction performance of the proposed algorithm.

The mechanical and electrical properties of the hot-pressed and annealed $\beta$-SiC-ZrB$_2$ electroconductive ceramic composites were investigated as function of the liquid forming additives of $Al_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$. Phase analysis of composites by XRD revelled $\alpha$ -SiC(6H), ZrB$_2$, and YAG(Al$_{5}$ Y$_3$O$_{12}$ ). Owing to crack deflection, crack bridging, phase transition and YAG of fracture toughness mechanism, the fracture toughness showed the highest value of 6.3MPa.m$^{1}$2/ for composites added with 24wt% $Al_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$additives at room temperature. The resistance temperature coefficient respectively showed the value of 2.46$\times$10$^{-3}$ , 2.47$\times$10$^{-3}$ , 2.52$\times$ 10$^{-3}$$^{\circ}C$ for composite added with 16, 20, 24wt% A1$_2$O$_3$+Y$_2$O$_3$additives. The electircal resistivity of the composites was all positive temperature coefficient resistance(PTCR) in the temperature range of $25^{\circ}C$ to 90$0^{\circ}C$.
In this work, phenolic resins containing conductive carbon fillers, such as, petroleum coke, carbon black, and graphite, were used to improve the surface heating elements by impregnating a pitch-based carbon paper. The influence of conductive carbon fillers on physicochemical properties of the carbon paper was investigated through electrical resistance measurement and thermal analysis. As a result, the surface resistance and interfacial contact resistivity of the carbon paper were decreased linearly by impregnating the carbon fillers with phenol resins. The increase of carbon filler contents led to the improvement of electrical and thermal conductivity of the carbon paper. Also, the heating characteristics of the surface heating element were examined through the applied voltage of 1~5 V. With the applied voltage, it was confirmed that the surface heating element exhibited a maximum heating characteristic of about $125.01^{\circ}C$(5 V). These results were attributed to the formation of electrical networks by filled micropore between the carbon fibers, which led to the improvement of electrical and thermal properties of the carbon paper.

Stretchable electrode materials are focused to apply to flexible device such as e-skin and wearable computer. Used as a flexible electrode, increase in electrical resistance should be minimalized under physical strain as bend, stretch and twist. Carbon black is one of candidates, for it has many advantages of low cost, simple processing, and especially reduction in resistivity with stretching. However electrical conductivity of carbon black is relatively low to be used for electrodes. Instead graphene is one of the promising electronic materials which have great electrical conductivity and flexibility. So it is expected that graphene added carbon black may be proper to be used for stretchable electrode. In this study, under stretching electrical property of graphene added carbon black composite electrode was investigated. Mechanical stretching induced cracks in electrode which means breakage of conductive path. However stretching induced aligned graphene enhanced connectivity of carbon fillers and maintained conductive network. Above all, electronic structure of carbon electrode was changed to conduct electrons effectively under stretching by adding graphene. In conclusion, an addition of graphene gives potential of carbon black composite as a stretchable electrode.
